I did not know Canada has an Emancipation Day and had to look it up. Apparently, it happened simultaneously across the British Empire in 1833, so it was a pretty big deal โ particularly in the Caribbean colonies. Here in Canada, about 2/3 of slaves before that time were Indigenous and 1/3 black.
