I'm trying to use it as a water pump for my aquarium. I'm using a 6V 4.5AH battery with a DC step up convertor to power the pump. After about 5 minutes it gets really hot. Is this expected?

Yeah those things get quite warm. Did you check the data sheet? Also, make sure it's intended for a continuous runtime.

Actually I tried searching for it, but could not find the datasheet for it. This was given to me by a friend. I believe he bought it from AliExpress.

Right, that does make it a bit more tricky. Is there any serial number or manufacturer?

I found something similar. I tried searching with the serial number but nothing came up.
