When our first child learned to use the potty we used diapers during naps and overnight. The nap diapers faded after a month or so, but the overnight diapers took like a year. What's worse is that he started pooping only when he had the diaper on, usually in the morning before getting out of bed. This was... not ideal.

I imagine that if we just ditch the diapers entirely then we would have a few days of wetting the bed, but maybe that's worth it? Or does it become a persistent problem? Or does bed wetting at this stage create unexpected problems? Any experience or advice would be great!

We stopped with the night time diapers as soon as there was no overnight usage for a few days. After that point, everything went pretty smoothly, we've only had one accident since. If your kid seems to be able to reliably hold it, it's worth trying for sure!
