Breadtube if it didn't suck.

Post videos you genuinely enjoy and want to share, duh. Celebrate the diversity of interests shared by chapochatters by posting a deep dive into Venetian kelp farming, I dunno. Also media criticism, bite-sized versions of left-wing theory, all the stuff you expected. But I am curious about that kelp farming thing now that you mentioned it.

Low effort / spam videos might be removed, especially weeb content.

There is a cytube that you can paste videos into and watch with whoever happens to be around. It's open submission unless there's something important to commandeer it with at the time.

A weekly watch party happens every Saturday (Sunday down under), with video nominations Saturday-Monday, voting Monday-Thursday. See the pin for whatever stage it's currently in.

They made one popular review about The Phantom Menace and, suddenly, everyone defends them to high heaven. They haven't made a good review since. And their main claim to fame is a sexist and racist review. Oh yeah, and inspiring MauLer to make his overly-long reviews who, in turn, inspired other right-wing Star Wars YouTubers to come out of the woodworks.

And the actual movie they made was horrid. I'd rather watch The Phantom Menace over the movie they directed.

I remember how they said Rogue One "had no humor" (right as they showed a scene with K-2SO in a comedic scene). "AT-AT! AT-AT!" Did you watch the same movie?

And they gave The Force Awakens a good review? What?

But their fans are like "Have you seeen their 2009 review of TPM?"

Yes? It doesn't hold up. This is YouTube in 2024. People have done it better now.

It is, and it's getting annoying hearing their fans from 2009 make excuses for them.

Hell, the prequels are better appreciated now (though I still think Attack of the Clones was bad) and the 2009 review doesn't... doesn't hold up, you know?

I mean, what is Qui-Gon Jinn's personality? We know that he was an unorthodox rebellious Jedi that was at odds with the Council and was calm and compassionate in contrast to his more conservative student who does care for Qui-Gon but wants to be in tune with what the Council wants.

Who is the main character of TPM? Some films are ensemble casts or did the reviewer not study this in film school before he made his own terrible film?

And he literally uses his friends in one part of the review to make the whole "oh, the OT characters had personalities and the people have spoken!"

Don't get me wrong: TPM is arguably still a mediocre movie, even if it was ultimately about a Walmart (read: Trade Federation) taking over a planet (topical!).

But the reviews themselves just... don't hold up.

And people continue to say "Oh, but have you seen his great 90 minute review of TPM?!" as if that will somehow make the criticisms of him go away.

I mean, one lady that was in their friend group even said that the head of the group (I forgot his name so sorry) was sexist and abusive and that's why she left the group.

Frankly, why doesn't he disavow people like MauLer that take after him or are inspired by him?

Just... influencers on YouTube can really piss me off sometimes because they attract the worst fans, smdh

i think not acknowledging that weirdo is the better way. like i would never have heard of him if it wasn't for whatever breadtube loser talked about it.

lol I have a feeling that many people on Hexbear who grew up with the original 2009 review may not like what I have to say and I get that.

As a kid, I did, admittedly, enjoy and laugh at the review, but I think their later work just doesn't justify, well, the following that this guy has.

But whatever. I've said my piece. If people disagree with me, that's fine. I'm not trying to start a fight or argument.

I would point out you've written multiple comments with multiple paragraphs about how much you dislike them, each alluding to how their Stan's on this site are going to be SO PISSED OFF! at you for it, yet so far nobody's really written any sort of major retort or rebuttals. Yeah they have fans here but they seem to have a faction of the dedication you have to your anti-fandom.

Obsessively hating treats is itself treat-brained behavior and as cringe as any other.

Listen up, folks, because it's time to tear into Red Letter Media and expose why their film reviews are absolute garbage. Strap in, because this is gonna get rough:

  1. Subjectivity Sucks: These clowns couldn't analyze their way out of a paper bag without resorting to their own biased opinions. Who cares about objectivity when you can just spew out whatever subjective crap you feel like, right?

  2. Sarcasm Over Substance: Forget insightful analysis; Red Letter Media would rather drown you in a sea of snark and sarcasm. It's like they think they're stand-up comedians instead of film critics. Newsflash: they're not funny, they're just annoying.

  3. Criticism? More Like Cruelty: Constructive criticism? Nah, they're too busy ripping apart movies like a bunch of vultures feasting on roadkill. Instead of offering helpful feedback, they'd rather revel in tearing down filmmakers' hard work.

  4. What The Fuck Did You Just Fucking Say? I'll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals, and I've been involved in numerous secret raids on Al-Quaeda, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I'm the top sniper in the entire US armed forces.

  5. Consistency? What's That?: Ever notice how their ratings seem to change with the wind? It's like they're making it up as they go along. Consistency? Nah, that's for real critics, not these jokers.

  6. Same Old, Same Old: How many times do we have to watch them review the same tired old movies? Branch out, guys! There's a whole world of cinema out there beyond your mom's basement.

  7. Lorem Ipsum Dolor Sit Amet: Duis aute irure dolor in reprehenderit in voluptate velit esse cillum dolore eu fugiat nulla pariatur. Excepteur sint occaecat cupidatat non proident, sunt in culpa qui officia deserunt mollit anim id est laborum.

  8. Dumbing Down Great Works: Some films deserve deep analysis, but Red Letter Media would rather boil them down to cheap jokes and surface-level critiques. Way to miss the point, guys.

  9. Echo Chamber of Idiocy: If you dare to disagree with these clowns, prepare to be shouted down by their legion of brainwashed fanboys. Critical thinking? Nope, just blind devotion to their mediocre opinions.

In conclusion, Red Letter Media is nothing more than a dumpster fire of film reviews. With their subjective drivel, lack of insight, and penchant for cruelty, they've earned themselves a spot at the bottom of the cinematic trash heap.

So I actually do have disagreement with all of these point, but I feel like airing them will make me look like a massive RLM stan at which point you can just call me a treat chaser or whatever and dismiss them and I've played that game before, I'd rather not again.

I will say this...

Consistency? What's That?: Ever notice how their ratings seem to change with the wind? It's like they're making it up as they go along. Consistency? Nah, that's for real critics, not these jokers.

This is a GamerGate talking point and I've always found it to be beyond stupid and also almost always falls apart once you actually analyze it. Generally the reviews in question have actually articulately why they gave different reactions to similar pieces of media, and even if they didn't, they ain't fucking car reviews. Also you say "ratings" which is weird cuz I don't think RLM has ever given anything a "score" ever.

Again, you're casting aspersions on someone's character.

Don't insinuate something about someone just because you have a disagreement.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 7 months ago (2 children)

You're literally repeating GameGate talking-points right now and defending a racist and sexist reviewer.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 7 months ago (1 children)

and defending a racist and sexist reviewer.

You brought up racism and sexism earlier, I'm curious what you're referring to?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 7 months ago (1 children)

I'm referring to their TPM review.

lol

[–] [email protected] 3 points 7 months ago (3 children)

It's been a long long ass time since I've watched them. A lot of people say they haven't aged well and I don't doubt it. I'll take your word if there some problematic shit in there but I'd prefer specifics if you are more damning accusations.

I didn't do that though.

Except for you lol

A faction? And how am I being anti-fandom?

All I did was state my opinion and you're attacking someone and casting aspersions on their character for simply saying that it's fine if others disagree with them.

Whatever. You do you.

Oh, now I remember.

I was putting outlines, I think.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Okay, to me it looked like you made a short comment then changed it to a long one with multiple parts. People do "edit trolling" sometimes on here so I'm wary of that shit.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 7 months ago

Me too.

But I did not.

I mostly just like Best of the Worst where they just get drunk and dunk on bad VHS tapes.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 7 months ago (1 children)

And they gave The Force Awakens a good review? What?

they soured on it over time. TFA seems good if you've steeled yourself for the prequels again but obviously it doesn't survive critical thinking or a view of the whole trilogy.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 7 months ago (2 children)

Many people knew it was bad at the time. Some judgment they have.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 7 months ago (1 children)

TFA was made to tailor to people like them who wanted to feel like star wars was "back" for them. The folks who never forgave the franchise for appealing to a younger audience. I like a lot in TFA, but its approach is certainly one for all the people who didn't learn the lesson Kevin Smith did.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 7 months ago

Precisely. Yeah.
