No alien species has been discovered to exist outside of non-sapient bugs and fish, but it's implied they exist, instead that they either haven't been to the Milky Way or wrote off the Milky Way as a wash while passing through sometime before humans evolved. Though with one co-creator dead and the other not in the best emotional place, confirmation is likely not to come.
It's implied the latter may be why meta-materials eve exist.
Given how huge the Milky Way REALLY is that's kind of an interesting take. There is a theory that we're actually one of the earliest civilizations to emerge based on the age of our sun and the planet and that we might not see other aliens very often because we're essentially near the starting line for interstellar travel.
