The show did have some really weird politics even from the beginning though, with the racialized Others being literal different species compared to the (apparently all caucasian) important and relatable ponies
The show was weirdly revealing about the liberal worldview. It accepts as totally natural and unavoidable a bunch of classist and racist things, but papers over them with pastel colors and says that everything can be perfect as long as we don't question authority and don't make waves and trust the immortal god emperess to run the kingdom.
I'll grant you that. Using Zebras and Bison for racial stand-ins is not in the spirit of friendship.
You know, given that Caucasians have a long history of being the Racialized Other in Russia, I'm not sure that this was the best wording, exactly... If you mean "white" you should probably just say "white" instead of using weird racial pseudoscience words, right?
Anyways my own headcanon is that earth ponies are Hispanic people, the pegasi are Francos, and the unicorns are Anglos
Oh yeah that's my bad. You're right, not sure why I said that and not white/"""non-political"""
If you live in using the word "Caucasian" for "white" probably has been so normalized for you that you don't even really think about its origins
