My husband and I moved into our townhome about a year ago. Within several days of being fully moved in a van started consistently playing loud music outside our home. It can be nonstop from 3pm-4am or just random bursts anywhere in that window. Rain or shine, mosquito infested or snowstorm, this van sits there and plays music. It is often so loud that our own music would need to be blared to an uncomfortable degree to tune out the loud bass. Even then we could still feel the beat. For context, the folks that play this music are not part of our neighborhood, but rather an apartment complex that is adjacent and separated by a retaining wall, so it is not easy to just walk over to them and ask them to turn it down anytime it is too loud.

Regardless, my husband and myself as well as other neighbors have spoken to them about the issue, and they are anything but understanding. They just say the can play the music in this parking lot. I think it is amplified around all the brick in our neighborhood and the top of the retaining wall in chain link, so there is NOTHING to block the noise.

It's so frustrating. It has gotten to the point where as soon it hits 9:50pm, if the music is still playing we call the police non-emergency line so we can fall asleep (I even sleep with a noise machine and earbuds and just feel our bed shaking 3 stories up!)

However, clearly calling the police does nothing because they still do it. Plus, I am not trying to get anyone in trouble, I just want to relax in my own home. I have lived in the city for 12 years now and in some busy areas, I am fine with city noise. This is like living right by the 9:30 club or something! We are now expecting a baby, and I am at my wits end trying to resolve this issue. Any thoughts? Happy to answer other clarifying questions!

I know y'all don't need to hear this, but I'm currently in the ATL airport and my crippling politeness won't allow me to yell it on each and every escalator, walkway, and hall. Carry on.

For those interested in local politics...

I found this part both hilarious and sad

A group of employees who collect evidence from crime scenes wrote to the board claiming that DFS leaders planned to make a variety of changes to their operations “that will drastically affect the unit and the quality of work we are capable of providing,” according to a copy of the letter forwarded to LL. The employees, who requested anonymity to avoid reprisal from DFS management, expressed alarm that the department wanted to phase out the use of a 3D laser scanning system they typically used to create detailed digital renderings of crime scenes, particularly those involving homicides, major auto accidents, or police shootings.

The employees argued that this would be a “detrimental” change “in our current state of being severely understaffed,” as it would require technicians to sketch and measure crime scenes on their own, a process that they said is both less detailed and more time-consuming than using the laser scanners.

That said I wonder how much of this level of dysfunction is happening all over the city - city government, federal agencies, private companies...

In a city full of mediocre food that is also expensive yet will still leave you hungry after you’ve finished it, I just wanted to shout out Chicken and Whiskey. Half a chicken, two sides and a soft drink for 20 bucks. The food never misses and there are vegetarian options. A bright spot in the otherwise shitty food minefield that is 14th Street.

Im having a wild craving for Cinders nachos. I mean it’s not like they’re anything special but I just want them! But they’re closed until Wednesday because of course they are. Anyone wanna hype up their fave nacho place so I can get my fix?

It seems that the prices have been somewhat arbitrary between people. I had a corporate discount that was $215 last year, which is now $240, but talked to others who are paying around $200 without any corporate discount. The price estimates found on blogs online are all over the place.

Has anyone had the same experience of not seeing much transparency over the pricing?
