Hi, I just recently found out that iOS has a relay service. From the description it sounds to me like it routes all safari traffic through two relays, encrypted.

To me this sounds like a VPN doing two “hops”. Is it? If not, why not and what is the practical difference?

How dangerous is this really? Is it a real privacy concern of just some fearmongering...

Feel free to educate me on this. This is only an initial query not a polished proposal.

What if we could incorporate internet security on the domestic level (instead of www. It would be us.), with any user outside of the country needing to identify themselves as human in order to gain access.

Wouldn’t a Domestic VPN be less complicated but still incredibly challenging to track?

The reason I am thinking on this is because of the influx of bots from other countries that are becoming increasingly difficult to get a handle on.

Also, the dark web is currently a global anonymous marketplace. What if it was downgraded to a domestic anonymous marketplace?

If I were to use "p2.freedns.controld.com" or the AdGuard DNS on my samsung phone whilst also having a VPN constantly on that is always connected and also have any attemped connections made without it blocked, would that stop the company (Control D) from being able to see my details/the sites I visit?

Hi there. One of the major advertising things I see with pretty much all VPNs is the ability to watch stuff from different countries on their streaming service. Well, if I move my VPN to some other country, and go to Netflix or Prime, they know I’m behind VPN . They all say this I’ve literally never been able to watch anything from the country like advertised.

Am I doing something wrong?

Hello,

I don't post that often but unfortunately, it has come to our attention that the comparison table we've originally made and have consistently added to and updated with the help of this community has been making rounds on Reddit.

We've got many of your messages about the comparison table we've together being taken, copied and its many versions circulating on Reddit. Moreover, this a community resource we've build cooperatively over the years has been copied by others, many of them stating they've made it themselves from scratch. Furthermore, this is often done for financial gain and users are mislead and manipulated just for that.

The original comparison table was made as a useful resource that could serve both new and more advanced users on educating them about the features of VPNs and making the technical information concise, easy to understand and consistent. We're incredibly grateful for all of your ideas and messages when suggesting providers or updating us with changes.

This is a COMMUNITY built resource and has been for years, therefore I want to encourage you to pay attention to those copycat comparison tables "made from scratch" by others.

So, if you come across a copy of the original table on Reddit, please make sure to report it.

You can always find the original comparison table here: https://www.reddit.com/r/VPN/comments/m736zt/vpn_comparison_table/

Thanks,

r/VPN team

Hello,

I'd like to start by saying that I’m a complete beginner when it comes to networking and PCs. I had this idea in mind, and it took me three weeks to figure everything out. I’d like to share my experience for others like me who might be struggling.

I was following this guide on how to set up a VPN on windows : https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=iW87TiAP85s

No matter what I did (I erased everything and started over every day, sometimes with small modifications), I could connect to the VPN server, but the client had no internet connection.

The problem turned out to be the OpenVPN TAP-Windows6 adapter, which you need to share internet access with your main adapter. It wasn’t configured properly—it had a random IP, mask, and DNS. To fix this, I simply set everything to automatic mode. Once I did this, a proper configuration appeared after turning it off and back on.

Secondly, you absolutely need to add a rule in your router (or box, in my case). You can use the NAT/PAT or Forwarding option to allow UDP/TCP protocols on port 1194, both inbound and outbound, for your "server." You can use either its IP address or its hostname.

During my research, I noticed that many people faced the same issue I did: being able to connect to the VPN but having no internet access. I don’t know if you’re dealing with the same problem, but I hope this helps.

One significant drawback of Shadow PC for me is that it doesn’t have a fixed IP. Since they’re hosted in the OVH datacenter, many websites and apps treat them as VPNs or proxies. OpenVPN is a good solution to "fix" your IP, but I was wondering:

Since Shadow PC also uses IPv6, is it possible to route UDP protocols over IPv6 to the same server? This way, I could have both a fixed IPv4 and IPv6. From what I understand, with my current configuration, all IPv4 traffic goes through my VPN using UDP, but the Shadow PC still uses its IPv6. Would this cause any issues?

How do I get a Indian debit card or go around this? Few months back they increased the price and I agreed to that... $23 per month is outrageous for a family plan. It's wild how much subs have gone up in the last few years, each year is another hike.

I had a vpn that I paid for and I used qBittorrent and I put stuff on plex and streamed from my desktop to my tv via my home network. My ISP was complaining about what I was downloading. I just found out about "binding" qBittorrent to my VPN. Could that have been the problem, the reason why the vpn didn't seem like it was doing it's job properly? If so, do I bind the qBittorrent Network interface to my Ethernet (or whatever) and/or bind my desktop IP address to qBittorrent? Any other advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

For the past 3+ years I’ve been stalked and cyberharassed by an individual whose IP consistently comes up as a law firm IP address in NY. I’ve been told it is actually a VPN. Can someone explain this to me? I don’t understand VPN’s at all and I want this person to stop

so i took up a VPN to run my entire house through. in part from sailing but also just for other perks like adblock and encryption. plus its been recommended to do by many people for a while now as just a good practice

for those of you who do this, how the hell do you handle all your accounts requiring password changes and verification multiple times a day??? from insta to gmail to work accounts - they all think im being hacked and suspicious activity.

ive only been using a vpn for a short while and already i want to ditch this due to its hassle

I pay for a commercial VPN service, however I also have my own VPN that I built running on my home network using wireguard. I would like to use my personal VPN, and connect to it with my devices, then, the device that is running the VPN, would connect to my commercial VPN. My goal is to route all my internet traffic through my personal VPN as a protected middleman, which would then allow my data to flow through to the larger commercial VPN without issue.

An added bonus would be if I could also connect to my NAS that is running on the personal VPN device (192.168.1.XXX), while still having the protection of internet traffic being routed through to the commercial VPN.

I asked ChatGPT in all of it's wisdom for an example on how this would work.

It mentioned editing the /etc/sysctl.conf file with the following forwarding parameters:

net.ipv4.ip_forward = 1

net.ipv6.conf.all.forwarding = 1

As well as the wireguard configuration changing:

[Interface]
Address = 10.0.0.1/24
ListenPort = 51820
PrivateKey = <WireGuard Server Private Key>
PostUp = iptables -A FORWARD -i %i -j ACCEPT; iptables -A FORWARD -o %i -j ACCEPT; iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o <commercial-vpn-interface> -j MASQUERADE
PostDown = iptables -D FORWARD -i %i -j ACCEPT; iptables -D FORWARD -o %i -j ACCEPT; iptables -t nat -D POSTROUTING -o <commercial-vpn-interface> -j MASQUERADE

I've never trusted it too much in the scope of security / linux configuration. So I wanted to ask a knowledgable group for some clarification, also to figure out if it was even possible.

Hello.

Looking to use a vpn. I’m years behind on this knowledge. Can someone help me with a checklist and I can then do my research past that? I don’t want to bug but just looking for what I need to maintain the freedoms I’ve grown up with.

I’m somewhat familiar (I’ve heard of it) with an “onion” browser then a vpn. Do I also need virus protection? I know McCafee is no good. I’m assuming there will be multiple preferences by individuals so any help is appreciated and I can, hopefully, situate it from there.

Thank y’all.

I'm connecting to the VPN using MacOS's Cisco IPSec VPN client configuration. It connects successfully, receives an IP. But when I'm trying to access any of the internal resources - the browser is just stuck loading. I've tried to run traceroute on the domain, and it correctly resolves the IP address, but then it's stuck on \* \* \*. I'm also able to connect to the VPN through PaloAlto's Global Protect, and the result is the same. It receives an IP, manages to resolve the domain using DNS, but then it's stuck.

What am I missing?
