Hi everyone,

I am experiencing an issue with my WiFi on Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS. The connection works fine for a few minutes, but then it drops and disconnects automatically. I have to manually reconnect, and the cycle repeats.

I have tried this solution but it doesn't work.

I will be thankful for any help!

Guys i am a new user, literallt 2 days old user. For linux in general.... after i set up ubuntu, i changed display refresh rate from settings to 180 hz which is max for my monitor.... next day i understood that its better to download and install amd gpu drivers for my gpu so that i can run my gpu better and all.... i did it, or not ... idk literally, i did the code thing from the terminal after i downloaded the linux version kf the driver from the website.... Anyway.... after since.. sceen is tearing heavily. I checked settings, its stuck on 60 refresh rate, and there is no toggle list where i can adjust the refresh rate any more.... i tried everything literally.... xbandr or whatever that code is, i restored the old open source drivers.. or so i think... i turned off freesync... i did million things.... after each i reboot... any last help before i go back for windows once and for all...... i literally downloaded 5.8 gb iso and ready to fly back to the 🪟🪟🪟

Absolute brand new Ubuntu install, I've basically never used Linux before.

https://comfyui-wiki.com/en/install/install-comfyui/install-comfyui-on-linux

I tried just literally following the instructions.

I went into my base folder, ubuntu/ ...

Git cloned it after installing git

Problem 1. Copying models into the model folder. I figured out how to do it via terminal but that's a PITA, what's a better way? It won't let me copy and paste via GUI

Problem 2. I had to install pipx to get stuff to install, just following the recommendations from the terminal. Is that OK?

Problem 3. I had to do the same command to install a second time with --deps at the end

Problem 4. I don't think I installed the stuff into the comfyui folder? So I rashly reinstalled it all after opening terminal in comfyui folder.

Problem 5. I reached a brick wall with installing requirements. It refuses to work if -r is in the command. Doesn't work either without it :/

Idiot proof step by step guide to installing comfyui on a fresh Linux?

Was I meant to venv? How and where and when should I have venvd :/

The light theme switched to gnomes light theme, which I prefer the look of over ubuntus shell, after installing the gnome extension Luminus Shell Y.

Is there a way I can make the dark(default) theme to match, being the plain gnome dark theme, in some way? Things like the quick toggles panel, calendar, and admin authentication screen all look like regular gnome in light mode but still like ubuntus gnome in dark theme. I wish I could install the regular gnome shell but I can't find where to obtain that, nor do I possess the knowledge on how to install it.

If I could change the login screen to match my regular gnome shell, that would be nice too.

so I just installed Ubuntu on my PC today, downloaded steam, and tried to connect a Bluetooth controller. Ideally, I was trying to use an Xbox one controller, however, after that failed to be discovered by the computer, I tried for a normal Bluetooth controller device (generic). I have tried checking Bluetooth status, as well as reinstalling blue Z packages. I’ve tried following all YouTube videos, however, it does not seem to be the controllers. The controllers I am trying to connect or discoverable by my iPhone and other computers, however, my PC is not detecting any Bluetooth devices. My wireless mouse uses a dongle and that is working fine. If anybody has any possible solutions, please let me know!!

I had dual boot before. But I have already deleted windows and removed its boot loader from UEFI. However, I still get these errors. after a minute or two everything works fine (boots up and system works). How do I get rid of this error? I am not a tech savy. Thanks.

How can I download apps in my mac virtual machine Ubuntu when most apps is designed for amd64 architecture, not arm64? I can't even download Google in Ubuntu. What's the point of this setup if I can't use it effectively? 😭 Is there a way to run amd64 software on my VM?

Hi,

I just installed the last version of Ubuntu on an old PC. It works great, but for an unknown reason, when downloading big files, the speed is slow and unstable.

My internet speed is around 2.3 Mo/s, but I’m only able to download at 200 or 300 ko/s.

Some more details :

  • Sometimes, the speed goes up to the max (2.3) for a few seconds, and the goes back down,
  • Other devices on the same wifi don’t have any problem,
  • It’s the same problem no matter the source of the downloading file,
  • According to settings, drivers are OK.

Any idea on what could be the problem ?

Thanks.

Hi, really pretty noob here. I've followed the instructions on nvidia's site to configure WSL 24.04 LTS to support multi GPU/computational support. I've installed Comfyui and running some flows. I started thinking about how the OS creates individual environments and that lead me to the question if the multi-GPU/ computational support that I added would be a global effect on any environment that was created on that machine. Hoping this makes sense. TIA

I installed VMware Fusion to run Ubuntu on my Mac, but I'm having trouble with installing DBeaver for MySQL. My mac runs virtual machine on ARM64, but DBeaver is designed for AMD64, and I haven't been able to find a solution.

Next, I tried installing Windows 11 on VMware Fusion and successfully got it running. However, I'm struggling to get WSL2 (Windows Subsystem for Linux version 2) working so that I can set up another virtual machine and install Ubuntu.

This is my first time setting up this environment, and I need help. I'm working on creating a website, and I need to use Ubuntu because I’ll be assisting kids, so I need to get familiar with it.

I have just installed ubuntu in dual boot with manual partition and I reset the ntfs partition so that I used one part for linux and the other part is now free. Now linux works perfectly but at boot time when I choose Windows in the GRUB I see automatic repair appearing but then it fails to reapair. I'm not able to use windows again. How can i do? How can i restore the windows partition?

Hey,

After wrestling two days with configuration Apache and PHP and Virtmanager on Arch-based distributions, I installed Ubuntu 24.10 and instantly noticed that things have improved from the last time I tried it. Now, the App Center can update everything without hanging. Configuring Apache and PHP takes a few minutes. So far, so good. :)

I then installed Dash to Panel, my must-have Gnome extension but when the computer wakes up from sleep or suspend, I see that both docks are showing (overlaid at the bottom) although I have disabled the default dock. Every time the PC wakes up, the default panel extension defaults back to on.

A little earlier, I learned that the default dock can be removed with:

sudo apt remove gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock

Can some more experienced Ubuntu users chime in an tell me if this is a good idea or, not? For the record, since this is a test install, I removed it and it's OK but in case it's not, I'd rather know that now before I start working on the next project.

Thank you! :)

I had recently switched to Ubuntu from windows and I absolutely love it. I've being using for 2 months now, and I do find my self bored as I can play the same games and get the same performance. So I put my old windows drive back into my computer and found that the performance on some of the games were surprisingly close. But I was just wondering if there have been things I may of missed that can improve my performance.

Since that discovery I have inserted my Ubuntu drive now and now even happier with OS, the only thing that is a slight bummer is the access to games there not always compatible. And just wanted to know if anyone knows and can perhaps shed some light on the direction on games and developers will more become compatible in the future, as I pretty much only use for gaming so every couple of months I might have to find my self swapping drives every now and then.

I have a ASUS TUF A15 gaming laptop with NVDIA 3050 gpu, now I try to do dual boot on this laptop with ubuntu, but after do that when I open ubuntu the screen brightness is very low but if I connect with charger and reboot the system(without rebooting the brightness will not increase after laptop is on charging mode) then it will be normal but not controllable means I can't up down the brightness. But on windows everything is normal means no brightness issue.Ubuntu works fine and I have to connect to charger to get brightness high(max) otherwise its too dim.

boot #dual-boot #ubuntu #linux #brightness

I'm at a loss here.

I've had my system, which I built, for over a year. The audio comes out through USB to a M-Audio Air 192/4 audio interface which then goes to an independently powered headphone amp to power my headphones and a small independently powered amp for my shelf speakers. I dabble in music creation with my USB keyboard and use Ardour mostly.

Tonight, I was watching a youtube video on firefox and suddenly got the twirling circle on the video which normally indicates a video download issue and thought it to be nothing but it never continued. I tried other videos on other sites and they were froze in limboland too. I suspected a cut in internet so I did a check on speedtest and it came out fine. All websites came out fine except on those that played a video. The page loaded on all those but the videos froze.

This got me curious so I shut down the browser and opened up a video or two I had locally on my machine and they, too, locked up, no matter what video player I used, including Haruna and VLC, they locked up at first but eventually played with no sound. I was getting a total loss of sound.

In the past, I would get a very occasional loss of sound but i was told to just unplug the Air 192 and replug it and it would usually fix the problem right away. It doesn't work at all now.

The only work-around I have right now is to port audio though my HDMI to the TV, which I use as a monitor. This set-up, of course doesn't allow headphone usage and mixing other inputs in music creation.

I also noticed that the HDMI seems to want and take over the audio volume controls. If I set the Air interface to be active and turn off the HDMI, and use the wheel on my mouse, the volume adjustment will still continue to scroll the HDMI volume even though it is deactivated. Of course, since it's deactivated, I get no sound.

I might add that I have dual-boot machine with Windows 11 pro, which I rarely use due to privacy concerns, and the Air 192/4 audio interface works flawlessly so I know it's not the equipment going bad.

How do I fix this please?

help me

UPDATE: SOLVED, this grok response helped me:

Ensure Correct SATA/Storage Controller Mode: Return to your BIOS/UEFI settings: Check if the SATA controller mode is set to AHCI. SSDs typically work best in AHCI mode unless you're using RAID configurations. If it's in IDE mode, change it to AHCI.
