I have lived all over the country not seeing it to this extent, and do not understand this “culture”. Just your average Joe with his plumbing truck will blast everyone out and at each stoplight. What’s up Tucson?

So many blossoms now - worth a visit!

Just saw the map from earlier tonight and it's pretty crazy! I know we got gusts up to 75mph midtown and I watch my palm trees thrashing like they might come down once or twice, but didn't realize until now just how hard it hit the rest of town.

Sadly, it blew through super fast, like a real monsoon so only about 5-10 minutes of rain in midtown. But I am hopeful for it to repeat again tomorrow!

Also, my new protip for showering post-exercise is to either just use the "cold" side or if your shower can't do that and you have a tankless hot water heater, just turn it off while showering.

Tap water is like 85 now and about as warm as you really want if you were just outside sweating.

Tucson nights (lemmy.world)

I swear, the only sane time to be outside this time of year is after 8pm. I turn into a night owl. If I were to run this city, I would actively try to have businesses stay open late/all night. I know Now is when the snow birds leave and sales drop.... but we don't have to live like this! we don't have to keep oven mits in the car for the steering wheel when we first get in and drive away...

In the dead of summer, the best time to cook a steak outside is at 4am. Weather is perfect then. THAT should be the time we all go out and get things done.

I know this will never happen. Thank you for letting me get out my pet peeve.

Hi All! I'd like to invite everyone here to the official Tucson instance at tucson.social. There's no need to delete this community, and if anything this place will serve as a fantastic way to get people on the local instance.

Come one, come all

Taken at the Desert Botanical Gardens parking lot in April. The heat that day was stifling yet so was the beauty of my surroundings!

Fun factoid: These trees have chlorophyll rich bark that perform photosynthesis.
