Hello everyone, welcome to transfurs!

This is a community for transgender furries where we can come together and discuss more about the intersectionality between being transgender and furry. Of course, other queer furries and allies are welcome to join as long as things stay on topic.

Keep in mind that this community isn't about transformation related stuff (as in human turning into furries and the like), but we welcome transformation related contents if they are relevant to this community's purpose.

If you want purely transformation related stuff, there are other communities such as:

Hello everyone, welcome to transfurs!

This is a community for transgender furries where we can come together and discuss more about the intersectionality between being transgender and furry. Of course, other queer furries and allies are welcome to join as long as things stay on topic.

Given the huge number of trans furries, we thought it might be a good idea to have a dedicated community. It would be nice to discuss the intersectionality between furry and trans experiences.

Keep in mind that despite the name association in other places, this community isn't about transformation related stuff (as in human turning into furries and the like). Rather, this community is about transgender furries.

We welcome transformation related contents if they are relevant to this community's purpose. But if you want to find and share purely transformation related stuff, there are other, more appropriate communities such as:

Rules

Please keep in mind that our community rules and guidelines will be updated every once in a while. Be sure to keep track of any edits to this pinned post so you won't get left behind on our community rules.

01. Follow pawb.social code of conducts

Their code of conducts can be found here.. In summary:

  1. No contents or conducts that are illegal in the United States.
  2. No racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, and other discrimination.
  3. Don't stalk or harass other users.
  4. No misinformation and deceptive content.
  5. Content warning policy. For pawb.social lemmy instance specifically: NSFW content must be tagged.
  6. Do not perform pentesting without approval, do not spam or advertise, and limit the scope of automated tools (see the full code of conducts).
  7. Use the report system
  8. Account policies, see the full code of conducts for more info.

02. Keep this community as a safe space

Keep this place civil and don't cause issues or drama which may make others unwelcome. Avoid hostile behaviors such as gaslighting, harrasment, ad hominem, bullying, and other incivility. Hate speech against other groups are also not allowed, such as fatphobia, ableism, antitheism, etc.

Keep in mind that anything which may invalidate someone's gender identity is also not allowed. This includes erasure or gatekeeping of non-binary, genderfluid, and other alternative gender identities. Likewise, gatekeeping whether someone is trans enough, calling others trenders or fakers is also not allowed.

Basically, respect others' gender identity.

03. Put Content Warning on potentially negative post

When posting content which may trigger or affect many people negatively (such as negative experiences, transphobia, etc), try to place content warning within your post title. For example:
[TW: transphobia] Insert post title

Also, if your post assumes or reassures viewers as a certain gender (such as posts that affirms femininity, which can be euphoric for transfeminine people but dysphoric for transmasculine people, and anything else similar to that), place a trigger warning within your post title. For example:
[TW: assumes viewer as transfem] Insert post title

04. We are not professionals, don't ask for medical advice

This community is not created, maintained, or participated by a professional. We are mostly trans people and furries who wanted to share our own creation and ideas. This community is not a substitute for professional help if you need them. We also can't guarantee the quality of any users, posts, or comments made in this community, so please excercise caution to any advice or information here.

Because of that, we also couldn't allow medical advices which could be dangerous without professional help. These include advices about HRT dosages, DIY HRT, and other medical advices, official or alternative. We couldn't moderate such contents properly and we couldn't guarantee the safety of such advices. There are other communities better suited for such content.

Of course, general mentions of HRT and surgeries are allowed, just not medical discussions/advices which can be dangerous without professionals.

05. No adveritising or fundraising

Our moderation team are not well equipped to vet or verify that any particular fundraiser, crowdfunding, or organizations are legitimate, so we couldn't allow them within our community. This applies to both personal and organization fundraising, as well as non-fundraising organization.

If you need resources or professional help, we highly recommend checking [email protected] sidebar/about page as there are quite a few helpful links. You could also ask or find more resources there.

TLDR for Rules

  1. Follow pawb.social code of conducts.
  2. Keep this community as a safe space and don't make others unwelcome or invalidate their gender
  3. Put Content Warning on potentially negative posts and posts that assumes the viewers' genders.
  4. We are not professionals, don't ask for medical advice
  5. No adveritising or fundraising

We will continue to revise the rules as time went by and our community grows. We hope you have a great time within our community.

Keep awooing your gender!

[TW: Mentions of sexual dimorphism in animals. TWed just in case]

Most animals are sexually dimorphic, which means male and female individuals are different from each other beyond their bottoms. But for some animals, the differences are even more starking than humans.

For example, the different feather colors between male and female mallards. Male mallards have green heads while female mallards are mostly brown.

Other animals takes it further. Such as how all workers of a eusocial insect (ants, bees, and wasps) colonies are female and the males are just drones. There are many other examples in the wild.

When we turn these animals into anthros, we tend to keep their dimorphism, at least most of the obvious ones like how anthro deers have antlers, male anthro lions have manes, etc.

Now imagine if these anthros were transgender, how would it work out? How would they transition?

For example, how would transgendeers deal with their antlers? Would they wear fake antlers (for FtM deers) or cut their antlers (for MtF deers)? And what about anthro animals where the male and the female individuals have different fur/feather patterns? Would they have to paint their fur?

I suppose hormone could play a part in dimorphism even for animals, so much like humans, HRT may exist for anthros. But how would they work and what's the effect for anthros, especially for non mammals like insects, avians, and fish sonas?

But aside from that. I think the biggest hurdle would be size differences. Many male animals are larger than their female counterparts, sometimes as far as being twice their size. That could be a problem even worse than height dysphoria.

Of course, all of this can be hand-waived. Just like how anthro bears and anthro rabbits are often drawn the same size despite being a bear and a rabbit, we could also make male anthros and female anthros the same general size.

Besides, most animals don't have visible tops, yet most female anthros do.

But, I think this is an interesting topic to think about.

A bit of a fun post, so no need to be serious.

Which fursona species do you think has heavy vibes with trans people? Which fursona species do you think many trans people would make or at least relate to?

Here are some of my suggestions:

  • Cats: catgirls, enough said.
  • Raccoons: maybe I'm slightly biased since it is my fursona, but I suppose they give a chaotic energy many trans people relate to, plus they're cute and unique.

What other species do you think would fit on this list?

So, would you?

  • Hell yeah, there's no downsides!
  • I would if it's what it takes to be my preferred gender.
  • Maybe, I'm kinda torn...
  • No! I don't want to be my fursona for real...

Some clarification:

  • You would be the only one turned into an anthro, everyone else is still human.
  • If you have multiple fursona, you'd have to choose one.
  • The gender of the fursona you chose to turn to would match your preferred gender.
  • You wouldn't receive the superpowers of your fursona if they had one. You wouldn't become extremely large, have superpowers (especially not omnipotence or shapeshifting), or anything else other than an ordinary anthro.

My response:

Personally, I'm kinda torn. Becoming both my fursona and my gender at the same time would be a dream come true. Being my fursona isn't just a downside, it's what I wanted.

But, in this scenario, I'd be the only anthro raccoon-- or anthro at all-- in the sea of humans. Thinking about it, if humans already discriminate against others just because of sexuality and gender (think of queerphobia and transphobia), imagine how they'd react to a completely different species, one that looks like an animal.

It'd be cool to be my girl fursona, but very hard with how humans behave to anything different from them (also, funnily enough, I imagine myself as my fursona commenting on humans when I wrote that sentence).

I've seen many people do this. I've seen fursonas with top surgery scars or bottoms reflecting the ones the authors have. Of course, it's nice to have our own fursonas represents who we are and to make them relatable to us.

But on the flip side, I've heard some transfurs preferring to have a cis fursona based on their preferred gender instead. They felt that their fursonas represents their perfect self, which for them would be if they were cis.

There's nothing wrong with that or making your fursona trans. Your fursona is yours to decide and it doesn't have to be tied to expectations about yourself; that's the best part about having a fursona!

But, how do you feel about it? If you are trans, do you also make your own fursona transgender?

Personally, my fursona is transgender much like I am. I usually like to put a little trans pin and write her as "trans" in her ref sheet, assuming that I'd ever take the time to draw her. While being trans isn't the biggest aspect of my fursona or an imporant detail for most of her art, it is an important part of her identity.
