Welcome to !reddit. This is a community for all news and discussions about Reddit.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules

Rule 1- No brigading.

**You may not encourage brigading any communities or subreddits in any way. **

YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.

Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.

**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.

If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

:::spoiler Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here.

Reddit bans (discuss.tchncs.de)

I have a question, why is it that when reddit bans someone the only indication you get is server error?

Apologize if this has been asked before.

I don't want to set up a new account, but only get my banned account reactivated.

The account is approximately 10 years old. Was permanently banned 2 years ago. Karma total over 3 million. Mod of 4 popular subreddits. Never once threatened another poster or commentor. Never called for violence.

Never previously banned from a subreddit or site wide.

In a group that I moderated I posted an news article. There were "reports" about the post. As as mod I could see the reports. Remember that reddit bans posts from some "news" sites. So the article I posted was from an unbanned news source.

A few days later my account was banned site wide. I presume some users had found a method to get right to Admins to protest the fact that I dared post an article that they didn't like.

After the ban I made a few "appeals". Of course I got the standard "NO" regarding reinstatement without any specific mention regarding what exactly I did wrong. Reddit has site wide rules. I violated none of them.

Occasionally I will do a search of something and if it is a reddit source it will come up under my banned account on my laptop using Chrome. I never deleted the account and I'm sure the "reddit KILL" cookies are still in Chrome which I use for browsing. I still have the reddit app on my Iphone.

I haven't made an appeal in over a year. I have no interest in setting up a NEW account. I'm just inquiring as to the possibility of getting my banned account reinstated.

If it exists, I haven't found it, but was wondering if there is a method of appealing that is different from the norm where some Admin will actually read your appeal and after 2 years reinstate you.

AITA for not wanting to drop charges on a 10 year old kid that beat up my 9 year old at school?

Some background my kids go to a school where over 90% of the student population are refugees/immigrants. We live in a neighborhood that is the same circumstances as my kids school.

Cut to yesterday. My 9 year old girl was out at recess. She was playing basketball with friends. This bully walked up behind her, pushed her to the ground and when she was getting up the kid kicked her in the head like it was a soccer ball.   My wife went down to check my girl out of school. She'll be ok, I hope, but she has scratches on the side of her face, a black eye and it's swollen.

School principal said he'd handle it. Later on he called my wife and I separately and asked us to drop the charges because the student doesn't "understand" that what they did was wrong.   I told the principal that if the school isn't going to discipline the bully I will call the police department and files charges. AITA for not wanting to drop charges on a 10 year old kid?

Edit: NO Im not racist. The principal/school admin uses the fact that they are refugees/immigrants to excuse their behavior actions all to often. Principal is retiring at the end of this year.

Update: she does have a minor concussion per ED pa. Keeping an eye on her currently.

After getting randomly banned on a subreddit (without breaking any of the rules) and accidentally posting on there with a different account, Reddit permanently banned me from their site. Appealing the ban didn't work.

Now, as soon as I create a new Reddit account it gets automatically suspended either immediately or after a few minutes to sometimes hours.

I assume many on Lemmy face similar situations and also switched to Lemmy because of a similar reason and they might also wonder how to bypass such a ban.

It seems like Reddit is using advanced fingerprinting since normal methods such as switching VPN, deleting and re-installing the browser/Reddit mobile app (including all associated data) and changing email doesn't work.

I'm not skilled enough and don't really have any "hacker knowledge" to bypass the ban. After extensive research I couldn't find a better solution than getting a new device or formatting the whole device.

I assume there must be a better way of changing ones fingerprint without just fully formatting the devices. Maybe it could work by changing the MAC address or something?

My goal is to not have a complicated way of accessing Reddit and resolving the issue in a way that one can access it completely normally again like in my case with the Chrome/Edge browser on Windows, Safari on Mac, and the Reddit app on Android.

Maybe someone has the knowledge here to help with this.

Literally on the front page, wtf

Like what does being gay have to do with their crimes?

Just use "Two men sentenced to life imprisonment for sexual abuse of children"

This feels like covert agenda-posting

The question is, what game would you buy it's remaster in a heartbeat.

And now it's gone.

I couldn't care less about such a thing (it's not like I could use it with Sync for Reddit anyway) but I genuinely thought these gimmicks were already dead?

I definitely recall some redditors commenting on something like "if awards still exist I would give you one right away".

Can I transfer my awards from Reddit to Lemmy? /s

If you don’t want to see Reddit ever again in search like I did, you can follow these steps:

Step 1: Install the extension from the Firefox store.

Step 2: Search Reddit.

Step 3: On your first search result drag your cursor over to the right on the drop-down arrow and select the crossed out eye.

Step 4: Hide all the Reddit suggestions on your first page.

Step 5: Now you won’t hear a beep again from that Snoo.

That movie came out a year and a half ago. Can we update the banner? Was there a discussion about this that I missed?

With the message in the body:

[ Removed by Reddit on account of violating the content policy. ]

Spez is terrified of people finding greener pastures, its almost as if he knows the platform wouldn't hold up to proper scrutiny, so he's trying to ride out that popularity inertia from the 9 years of development as long as possible. Imagine how much bigger the 2023 exodus would've been if Reddit didn't remove all those posts recommending it, I'm just glad one of the lucky ones who were standing under one of the cracks in the ceiling that revealed the light, before the admins patched it and ordered their unpaid henchmen to start spreading propaganda against Lemmy by making it their Goldstein.

They didnt want me to know that I could be free from the shackles of corporate tyranny.

[Edit: New Moderation Team has since been installed by Reddit]

I mean, I totally get it. People keep posting (according the the mod) stuff like "DRONES ARE SPYING ON ME", of course, who'd want to moderate that shit? I'm glad the user decided to quit, and not have to babysit weirdos spamming conspiracy theories. (Its unpaid anyways, why even do it if the conspiracy-therory-filled community doesn't appreciate it)

Welp, that's a subreddit shutdown I haven't seen for a while. Good luck to whoever is next to deal with weird conspiracy shit.

I have attempted to post a few articles from the organization only for them to be immediately removed for no reason whatsoever. Even though they do not go against the subreddit rules.
