I need some help understanding how this works.

If I am connected to Mullvad then when I check my DNS it is mullvads, so I know I am connected to it and have the ad blocking option turned on in the client.

I usually use Firefox and uBO but I sometimes have to use a browser that doesn't have any extensions at all and is chromium based, so I get a ton of ads.

If I disconnect from Mullvad and add the adguard dns in my network settings I get less ads (not perfect but pretty good), but if I enable Mullvad I seem to be getting ads again.

Ad blocking is not my primary concern, I care more about my ISP not having my entire search history available really. But it would be nice to do both.

Can/should I somehow make Mullvad use adguard dns or is this risky in some way? Or not possible?

I know you can set custom dns in the client but I know too little about networks to dare do that in case it would be able to cause a leak somehow.

I'm curious about what you all do online, which makes you need such a private VPN? I've personally swapped over to AirVPN for torrenting, Plex and the occasional server.

There's seem to be a strange problem. I was logging into Twitter on my Samsung android tablet. My Mullvad was on Romania. Once I was logged into a new account I got a warning from a email that my location has changed, Because my phone has mullvad with a different location. The message was saying on my android device which I own but I have another email saying I was log onto a Linux Chrome app still in romania. I do not own Linux computer. Might have been hacked I changed my password. Or Is it Mullvads mistake or Twitter's mistake on my location? come to think of it, My twitter account was link to another site which needed a twitter login.

I just recently switched from ExpressVPN to Mullvad for security reasons and I am completely disappointed so far. My internet speed has plummeted from 400mps to now sub 10mps, usually closer to 5. The upload speed seems unaffected (~11 without a VPN vs 9.5 with it).

I've changed locations several times, including using the ones that are the closest to me. I've switched ports between 443, 53, custom, and 51820. MTU is set to 1280.

Is there anything I can do to alleviate this issue?

Hello,

I have been using Mullvad for about a year but it have been gotten worse over the last two months.

I have to constantly switch locations in order to use the internet. Reddit gets block on on location X, gotta switch. Now Youtube gets some error and thinks I'm a bot, gotta switch locations again. Next location, some other side gets blocked. Next location the MMORPG I play locks me out of my account and so one. This goes on and on and I have to switch locations like 30 times a day.

I asked the support but the reply was something along the lines of "well that's not our problem"

Am I doing anything wrong here?

Are there any setting to tweak?

Is anyone else running into this problem?

What companies or advertising networks actually use AI traffic analysis? They have other, cheaper methods for collecting data.

Do routers, ISPs, etc. store packet data long-term? Storing and processing this kind of data seems cost-inefficient.

Which type of consumer is DAITA meant to benefit.

Topic. Using my phone's hotspot I had trouble connecting at first, then fiddled with the DNS and eventually managed to connect but my traffic wasn't being routed through the VPN. On PC it seemed to work at first but on PS5 I got "failed to obtainnIP address in time". Bummer.

The Mullvad windows service causes the microsoft COM Surrogate Process to use up 20% cpu usage, even when mullvad is not actively in use and the prcocess is not running ( only the service ).

Done extensive windows image diagnostics via cmd etc, always came up without negative results. Checked system for malware with malwarebytes and windows defender. No resuls.

Deactivated all non windows services and then piece by piece figured out its the Mullvad service causing this.

I reinstalled mullvad, cleared the registry of mullvad entries, the issue is still present.

What gives?

This only happened since the latest update, It did not happen a few months ago.

Randomly checked https://mullvad.net/en/check and I was surprised to see my real ip address, when Mullvad clearly states that it's connected. What is going on? How is this possible? Screenshot with obvious personal things removed: https://imgur.com/nwsAsT7 I'm shocked.

One of my 5 available Mullvad Wireguard Configurations is used solely for DNS. The DNS Configuration on my Router forwards requests in sequence, not parallel. I want to use this Mullvad Device for 4 connections to 4 different Mullvad Servers in a Failover Configuration. If one Mullvad Server i unreachable (checked with ping), another one becomes the primary route for DNS.

I have made it work at first! But after a few hours the Wireguard Connections goes down. I suppose this is part of Mullvads Automation securing users to only use 5 devices. My assumption is that even though DNS Requests are sequential and therefor always count as one device querying different servers, my failover configuration with ICMP Ping Requests can be and often is parallel. That probably gets those connections terminated.

My question is if anyone has tried anything like that? Or any other solution to my primary goal of having DNS Failover within VPN? I appreciate if a swedish mullvad would chip in here.

If I'd like to know if I was on VPN not not from say 9am to 10am today, is there a log in my system files to check that?

What am I missing? I live closer to Sweden than Netherlands and not only that but Mullvad is Swedish and on top of that DAITA is developed here in Sweden! Why is it missing server back home?

Hi, after installing Mullvad VPN on my Mac, the computer is now constantly convinced its storage is completely full, even though it isn't. Outside applications are also convinced of it, refusing to download anything, do software updates, or back up to Time Machine.

While I'm not positive Mullvad is responsible, the problem did begin when I downloaded Mullvad. Additionally, I have deleted the VPN and many websites still see me as living in its last proxy location.

Has anyone encountered this? Apple Support is totally stumped.

DAITA has stopped working for me suddenly.

What could be the problem?

I recently purcahseed an ASUS Zenbook 14 OLED (model UM3406HA). I typically run a VPN (Mullvad), and I've had issues with the system shutting down and not waking from sleep. After multiple restores of the system I think the culprit is the VPN. If I put the laptop to sleep with the VPN connected it shuts down and has to be restarted. If I disconnect the VPN prior to putting the device to sleep, it will wake normally. Does anyone know why this would happen or any fixes available?

First read more here: https://www.wireguard.com/known-limitations/

Let's just not argue over what is what about protocol. Let me be here extremely clear here,. OpenVPN is the "standard" both in a corporate settings and withstanding censorship worldwide. There is no single fact on this that can go against this statement no matter how advance you make WireGuard.

WireGuard only network is the most ridiculous decision Mullvad has taken and I am thinking they are in over their heads at this point. Breaking down the classic adage of "Don't fix what ain't broken." is utterly irresponsible.

OpenVPN is a battle tested protocol and it is way ahead powerful to provide more resistive connection with obfuscation.

Other thoughts about their decision: 1. Possibly trying to milk more money from customers as now all devices must adhere to one protocol reducing workload while users pay the same price, as OpenVPN is more supportive with routers and pretty much unbeatable compatibility. 2. They simply don't give a shi* about what anybody thinks at this point. 3. Don't give any attention to OpenVPN DCO. Zero! 4. Just plain old "greed" engulfed the core principle of fight against surveillance.

This is like giving user a middle finger in the best way possible. When you can't talk with technology, they just hollow words and when they actually talked with tech, they never needed such essays.

This also gave me a reminder when they removed port forwarding because of abuse when technically they could have partially allowed it to work without taking much hit and yes, it's still present with many others including smaller players.

Mullvad now seems like some VC's puppet. This is painful here to write but now I have seen enough.

Farewell dear friend. It was a good ride...!

So I have Mullvad installed on my Android TV. Since a couple of days I can't choose another country as a location. The moment I switch to the country drop-down list I'm unable to scroll down and choose any country. I've reinstalled it a couple of times, tried older versions also. I have now only Sweden as option, since it comes by default and I can only connect there. Did anyone else encounter this issue?

I'm trying to optimize my routing to the jp-tyo-wg-001 by going through us-dal-wg-402 then us-lax-wg-501 and then connecting to jp-tyo-wg-001. Is this even possible?

Im travelling to China in a few weeks and I saw that mullad is the best VPN for there and I was wondering if there is any data limit per month.

In the light of the recent news about Mullvad phasing out OpenVPN support soon, I have switched my pfSense to connect using WireGuard instead.

With OVPN I was able to use a DNS hostname as endpoint server, and add a local DNS record that contained all the OVPN server IP's. That way, if one of their servers was down, it would eventually connect to another server.

Can this be done with WG too? All their WG servers use different public keys. Or is there a better alternative than DNS resolution to achieve this?

I do not want to multi-hop. I just want to have a fallback option in case one of their servers go down.

So recently there were layoffs at Mozilla since Google is no longer allowed to pay them. If firefox were to no longer be able to be maintained would this mean the end of mullvad browser as well since its based on firefox?

Should I use the DNS content blockers or a custom DNS if I want to have absolutely no DNS leaks?

Thanks!

Hey all,

I’ve used Mullvad for about 2 years now and love it, but I’ve recently migrated to The Qubes OS on one of my devices. I was able to get Mullvad set up following their guide, but I was wondering whether there would be a way to get features such as quantum resistant tunnel and DAITA set up, since the set up on Qubes is through config files.

Thanks in advance!

Edit: I tried using the Mullvad app in the sys-firewall Qube, but now internet only works in said Qube, none of the connected ones :(
