The place in the fediverse to discuss all things metroid: news, theories, memes, fanarts, etc..

Let's be nice and create a wholesome community.

N.B. we don't like artwork sexualizing Samus, so don't even bother posting.

Hi all!

I'm a huge (if recent) Metroid fan. I discovered the franchise a few years ago with Fusion and right about that time Dread was announced so I was instantly hooked. If you're here, you probably know the rest. Since I left that other platrform I sorely miss my daily metroid fix and since there was no metroid community (that I could find at least) on lemmy I decided to create one!

There are no specific rule regarding the content of the posts other than they have to be metroid related (duh), but there are rules about the way we interact with each other. Basically just the stuff that makes you a decent human being: no homophobia, transphobia, sexism, racism, ableism, etc..

Just be nice to each other and build a great community.

Let's begin

One of the best Metroid analysis/retrospective I saw on YouTube (and I've seen my fair share). It's lengthy but incredibly comprehensive

I didn't mind the NPCs in Corruption as much as others, but I do prefer the sparse characterization of U-Mos and Quiet Robe.

Samus herself has had a lot of range: talkative in other M, talkative but unvoiced in Fusion, silent in the classic 2D games, silent but with lots of character in her body language in the Prime Trilogy & Samus returns, and talking just a bit in Dread (and screaming lol).

My ideal combo would be U-Mos style NPCs and a Samus that talks just a smidge more than in Dread.

What do you think?

The rumor is that Metroid Prime 2 and 3 are going to get straightforward ports on Switch, not remastered. Which is fine by me cuz I just want an excuse to play those games again.

When do you guys think the ports will be announced? I'm no marketing strategist, but I feel like it would be important to release the games while Metroid Prime Remastered is still relevant and people still have the game fresh in their minds. So I feel like now would be a good time to release them. Unless they're planning on waiting until MP4 is revealed, in which case we're going to be waiting a while.

Do you know if the hacking community is working on something similar?

One of the beautiful things about Metroid games is their replay value. So I'm curious, which game have you replayed the most?

For me it's Dread (played 135 hours eheh)

Nice video, cool ROM hack

For me it would the ability to absorb an enemy thanks to new "Metroid power" acquired in Dread. Maybe after you parry an enemy or after locking it with the grapple beam. It would expand on the melee combat and be awesome.

I don't even know if the admin would allow that, but do you think if could be worth it to let the subreddit know there is an alternative in the fediverse?

No mainline games, no Prime games, not even remakes or reboots of older games. A completely new Metroid spin-off. It could have the same gameplay with different characters and location or we could see Samus in a whole different game. Pinball demonstrates that the possibilities are endless.

So, which is your wildest Metroid dream?

Since this community is new I wanted to spark some discussion.

I've been a fan for years and used to frequent forums for the series back in the day. I learned about Metroid from a friend back when I was in elementary school (probably around 2004-2006 I honestly can't remember). I played Fusion and eventually Zero Mission on my GBA.

When I was in middle school I learned about Super Metroid ROM Hacks and watched tons of let's plays of them back then. Eventually I got Super Metroid myself on Wii VC and got to play a bit myself.

After that I didn't branch out too much. I only really played Prime 1 and did play AM2R when that released. I still enjoy coming back to the series though.

What's your experience?

If you choose to play one, you will never be able to play the other. If you don't choose you'll never play a Metroid game again. What is you answer?
