The things you do for yourself are gone when you’re gone, but the things you do for others remain as your legacy

I’m an at my highest weight ever. I have high blood pressure, am prediabetic, have a hard time walking long distances, am constantly in pain, don’t look good in any clothes, have sleep apnea, body looks disgusting and am unable to do so many things due to my weight.

I take Lexapro for anxiety, levothyroxine for hypothyroidism, Sprintec to control heavy flows, Spironolactone for blood pressure and PCOS (believed to have it, I went to get an ultrasound of my ovaries but they couldn’t see through the fat). I also have sinus issues.

All the warning signs are there, I’m close to a point of no return.

But I just cannot seem to internalize how dire the danger in all this and how I can do something about it. I know what to do but I just can’t execute it. It’s rather simple in theory. Exercise and eat healthier/in moderation. But, I can’t take action.

I describe myself as an old diesel truck whose engine is trying to turn over but it just won’t. I try to develop a new habit and I fall out of it after a few days.

I do have a therapist but the eating/weight gain has only gotten worse. She doesn’t specialize in e disordered eating but it’s free through my insurance and can’t afford to see a specialist on a regular basis.

My therapist believes I suffer from adhd and I do have a prescription for Adderall but I have yet to take it.

I’m tired of feeling like a failure. I know if I don’t do something soon I will die. I know this. But why can’t I commit? What is going to have to happen for me to get motivated to change? To fight the hard fight?

I wrote an "un-self-help book" (can be downloaded for free here) as an alternative to the usual motivational content, which seems to work fine until it doesn't. This could be a very useful tool to have in your belt for those times when the weight of the world is on your shoulders and nothing seems to lighten the load.

I believe I can manifest whatever I put my mind to but I simply just accept what life has given me and the random choices I make. Is anything really worth it? How do I get out of my head and find peace? Maybe I need to change my perspective on what life is.

Carl Jung once stated, that until we make the unconscious conscious, it will direct our life and we call it fate. I’d like to adress a destructive habit, that’s deeply embedded in our coulture, yet very few are aware of.

You are lazy

You are anti-life

You are not the smartest

RECOGNIZE THE CURSES

Whether our inner voice repeatedly chants these curses or the people around us: we say so, because we are accustomed to it. But guess what? In 99% of these cases itˋs simply not true.

Picture this: When somebody safes the lives of 100 children from human trafficking, but killed one human being a week ago, is this someone inherently good or bad? Hard to judge, right?

What if the killed human was a pregnant mother? What if this pregnant mother had viciously killed a happily married couple before? What if this pregnant mother was the partner in crime of the men responsible for trafficking hundreds of children? Let’s stop here.

WE'RE BAD JUDGES, WHEN IT COMES TO COMPLEX MORAL QUESTIONS

Especially since our brain tend to simplify decision-making. Our brains are hardwired to simplify decisions, to help us navigating life efficiently. And this is the big problem, whether we label abortion as “anti-life” or watching TV as “lazy”. It’s not that simple.

If you completed a 500 piece jigsaw-puzzle with your partner and two were blue, would you say the whole puzzle is predominantly blue? Probably not. Because you know and see, that 498 other pieces are a different color. And this is the idea I’d like to invite you to consider:

Just because you are unaware of all the actions you or someone else did in the past 24 hours, 4 weeks, 6 months, it doesn't mean you are defined by a single event.

If we finally transition from defining events or people (escpecialy ourselves) with little to no evidence to recognizing the bigger picture, something magical can happen.

Not only will you lead a more productive, happier and sorrow-less life, on top you will avoid many many conflicts with yourself and others.

YOUR MIND STARTS TO OPEN UP

Gradually you will become open to asking yourself:

“OK, this happened. What’s the deeper cause and how can we prevent it in the future? instead of blaming yourself with thoughts like

“damn you lazy wit, did you just watch 3 episodes of Games Of Thrones, when you knew you had something else to do?”

Suddenly you will strive to understand your friend, family member, or stranger rather than pigenhole fellow human beings as “conservative” or “disloyal”.

A whole new way of living is possible when we relentlessly ask ourselves:

Does this one moment truly define me?

Does this one opinion really define you?

Thank you for your attention.

K
