That's me, testing the cable. I was curious what the cable can do for data transfer. Looks like USB 2.0 is it.

Interesting that it says it can do 50v at 5A, which is actually 250W.

Kind of a click baity title but now that I've been running my FW 16 for a few weeks I wanted to address some of the biggest complaints about Framework that I've seen.

Fit and finish: I have had zero complaints with the fit and finish of my Framework. Is everything perfectly flush and milled to perfection? No. But look at the laptops that fit that category (mainly Apple) and think about how poorly user servicable those devices are. At the core of Frameworks mission is to create user servicable friendly laptops, that will mean some compromises when you consider that it's designed to be taken apart. The tighter the tolerances the less user-servicable

Cost: I get it, Framework costs more than other similarly spec'd laptops on the market. If you are looking for a new laptop and only considering cost to performance, Framework isn't the laptop for you. They are a boutique manufacturer and don't have economy of scale on their side. Personally I am okay paying a slight premium for future repairability. I purchased a Framework because I needed to replace my old laptop that was only 4 years old. The CPU and GPU were still getting the job done, but the trackpad was dying as was the keyboard. Two relatively cheap items that scrapped an entire laptop.

Hardware Compatibility: Especially when it comes to RAM, there is only so much a boutique company can validate when it comes to RAM. The combination of number of manufacturers, size, and speed of kits means they can't test everything. And unfortunately we live in a world if liability and litigation. It's easier for them to get some of the top selling, most common RAM kits and validate them to at least give their users known good. They have even said kits not on their list may be compatible, but they can't guarantee it.

I'm not going to spout out that Framework is the perfect company and they can do no wrong. But their dedication to right to repair and future upgradability, combined with their transparancy of issues as they arise (specifically with the FW 16) means that unless something drastically changes, they have earned me as a customer.

I'm a college student in computer engineering, and have about $2000 to spend on a laptop since my Asus ROG g14 isn't cutting it with battery life, and sounds like a jet engine when I try to get any amount of work done with Blender, and Fusion360. I'm considering an M3 Macbook Pro 14 inch with 16gb of ram, and 512 gb in storage. But for the same price, I can get a Framework laptop with a Ryzen 7, 32gb of ram, 2tb of storage, and a Radeon 7700s. The size of the laptop isn't really a concern for me, and I'm currently torn between a Framewokr 16, due to it's repairability, and modularity, and a Macbook Pro, for it's battery life, efficiency, and overall performance. I just want to get my money's worth with a laptop that can last me for the next 4-5 years. I had a Framework 13 and was planning on getting an eGPU for it, but but I sold it to someone at school they didn't want to wait 3-4 weeks for the pre-order. I really don't want a framework 13 anymore, since I do need a good GPU for my laptop.

I'm currently torn between a Macbook Pro and Framework 16

Just throwing this out there to see if anyone's got the scoop on the Framework 13 laptop. I've been riding the Framework hype train ever since I caught that Linus Tech Tips video, and I'm all in for what they stand for—super into it, honestly. The thing is, before I dive in and buy one, I wanna know if it's really worth it. Framework's not as big as the big dogs like Dell, Lenovo, or HP, and that's got me wondering about the long game. So, here's the deal: I'm not doing anything too crazy on my laptop. We're talking light documentation, some admin stuff, and on a good day, a bit of coding in C++, C, Python, and Verilog. Given all that, does anyone think the Framework 13 will cut it for me? Would love to get some advice or recommendations from folks who've actually used one. Is this thing as good as they say for someone with my kinda workload?

Now that the framework 16 has been released, does framework have a roadmap? What is their next project? One thing I hope to see is them expanding the screens available, having some models of screen with different resolutions & with touch/stylus support would be very usefull.

Firstly, I hope everyone in Taiwan and at Framework is safe and unharmed. For those that don’t know a 7.4 magnitude earthquake just struck Taiwan leaving them with a lot of destruction and a possible tsunami on the way.

Secondly, posting here because I am assuming this will disrupt the shipments and manufacture of devices being made in Taiwan (all of them I think?) just wanted to remind people to be patient.

Again hope you all at framework are doing okay!
