Eric Andre’s birthday party at the Music Box Village in New Orleans has been canceled. Local cover band LSD Clownsystem announced on Friday they would be backing out of the event, due to Andre’s signing of an October letter thanking President Joe Biden for his support for Israel following Hamas’ attack on Oct. 7.

LSD Clownsystem released a statement on Instagram following backlash from fans, reading in part: “Thank you to all who brought this to our attention when the show was announced ... We strongly and wholeheartedly believe in Palestinian liberation and an end to the Israeli occupation.”

The announcement suggested that Andre could redact his name from the letter or publicly call “for an end to the occupation.” In lieu of the birthday party, the band said they would look into throwing a benefit concert for Gaza in the coming weeks.

Andre has not publicly responded to the situation, though he has since deleted his Instagram post announcing the event.

Although Andre signed the October letter in support of Israel, he was filmed on Thursday, March 7, dropping “Ceasefire Now” banners from the freeway in Los Angeles ahead of Biden’s State of the Union address.

Eric André will bring his anarchic comedy show "Eric André Live Near Broadway" to Adult Swim Thursday, January 18 at midnight ET/PT. Featuring André's lo-fi brand of late-night entertainment and punk rock comedy, his performance at Terminal 5 in New York City was filmed for the half-hour special, and includes guest appearances from Emmy and Tony winning actor Billy Porter alongside fan-favorite characters The Grim Reaper and The Fridge Keeper.

"We're spilling ranch-covered nightmares across America, and now we're entering your home thanks to Adult Swim," said André.

• Opera GX is a “browser for gamers” with several features that appeal to gamers and enthusiasts.
• As part of a marketing campaign, Opera GX inserted a loud splashscreen that jump-scared users.
• While the splashscreen was present for a day only, users could not turn off the feature without manually deleting the splashscreen file or force-updating the browser.

Earlier this week, Opera GX ran a marketing campaign with comedian Eric André centered around burying your boring browsers. The campaign video is loud and chaotic, but I guess they were aiming for it, so I wouldn’t fault them so far. However, as part of the campaign, the folks at Opera GX also inserted a VERY LOUD Eric yelling “OPERA GX” into the browser’s splashscreen. Needless to say, users who had no clue about the marketing campaign were jump-scared and definitely not amused.

What made the jump scare worse was that the loud splashscreen would trigger every time you started the browser. You’d think the “feature” would be one-time or even optional. But no, you couldn’t even turn off the behavior. You’d need to force an update to the browser or manually delete the splashscreen executable. Even worse, the splashscreen caused the browser to open slower since it would play out this longer splashscreen.
