/c/medicine (hexbear.net)
submitted 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) by [email protected] to c/[email protected]

There are many barriers that disallow comrades from getting unbiased input from a medical professional, and I think this comm could provide that access. I have seen some thoroughly uninformed medical takes here, and this could serve as a place for people who want research-backed answers to their medical questions. Would also be a place to post advancements in medicine, changes in medical policy, etc

I know there is already /c/drugs but that is primarily aimed at recreational use and harm reduction.

Unsure if we would be required to label the comm "This is not medical advice", while still providing it.

It's fine if the dunk tank doesn't want to be a place where we get mad at insignificant reactionary nerds, I love that for them. But for those of us who LIKE getting mad at insignificant reactionary nerds, we need a containment zone for those kinds of posts, otherwise folks are just going to get shit removed from dunk tank / cth / main all the time.

Enter, chapodunkhouse. It's exactly the same as the dunk tank, except we can keep dunking on folks whose opinions don't matter to anyone who matters.

I think the rules should be:

Rule 1: All posts must include links to the subject matter, and no identifying information should be redacted.

Rule 2: If your source is a reactionary website, please use archive.is instead of linking directly.

Rule 3: No sectarianism.

Rule 4: TERF/SWERFs Not Welcome

Rule 5: No ableism of any kind (that includes stuff like libt*rd)

Rule 6: Do not post fellow chapos.

Rule 7: Do not individually target other instances' admins or moderators.

Anyway I'm happy to mod this with anyone else who wants to mod this, including any of the mods of the dunk tank since they already are doing a great job moderating it outside of the new Rule 8.

Also yes this is a serious comm request I'm not shitposting. I like dunking on random libs and I know lots of others do too.

Hasan Piker has long been an ally of the chapo community. I think there's a lot of overlap between our spaces.

Please answer these questions!

What kind content should be posted on /c/rackers?

What kind of content would be posted on rackers if you dropped the /c/?

Do you want to see this comm created?

If nobody wants /c/rackers may I suggest /c/hapotraphouse as an alternative. We really ought to use the /c/ in comms as part of the official name of these groups. Its a missed opportunity if you ask me.

  1. will the board be ironically or unironically pro-trump? No.

  2. will the board be about trump exclusively? Mostly not, it will mostly be a board about mocking liberal politics.

  3. why should my leftist safespace have a subforum called “thedonald”? Because it would be funny and we could laugh at anyone who posts there unironically.

  4. if there’s this girl I like, and I really like her, but she is obsessed with this thing called jebposting where she makes ironic memes about jeb bush winning elections in a landslide to comical degrees, to the point where she neglects eating, bathing, going outside, just to keep jebposting. Should I ask this girl out on a jeb bush themed date even if I think the joke itself is rather worn out and not funny anymore?

One common complaint I've noticed among our comrades from the global south is that discussions on this site tend to be dominated by people from the imperial core. I think there would be some benefit to having a comm for people from the global south, and only people from the global south, to be able to talk amongst themselves without people assuming they're being hypocritical/edgelord first worlders. This would be similar in purpose to c/em_poc, but in regards to nationality rather than race.

Talk about nuclear strategy.

Talk about new and coming military technology.

submitted 7 months ago by [email protected] to c/[email protected]

It's been too long since @[email protected] went on a posting spree, and we need a place where everyone can post them. Putting them in c/cth or c/hat is inadequate, they need their own space. I probably come up with a few Wrong Facts per week as it is, and I bet others have plenty more.

Fake News can be misleading and controversial and divisive, but Wrong Facts will brighten up anyone's day.

This bit needs to be revived, and democratized!

We have a generic science comm, but many of the posts are about space because space is fuckin cool. So there should be a dedicated comm for space to avoid overwhelming /c/science.

c/cafe (hexbear.net)
submitted 7 months ago by [email protected] to c/[email protected]

ive been thinking abt this for a while now: a comm for caffeinated drinks. im a big coffee drinker and rlly enjoy the process of brewing. this could be for tea too, and energy drinks ig. theres a lot of knowledge in brewing coffee (and im sure its the same for tea). im a bit of a novice, but i have a decent amount of experience to share involving espresso, cold brew, pour-overs, water hardness and temperature, grind size, bean selection, etc. we can also recommend each other gear. my first post would be talking abt my manual espresso machine that i highly recommend for quality espresso on a budget

as im already on the mod team, i could mod this comm, and im sure i could find other users passionate abt coffee or tea to deputize

/c/modernism pls (hexbear.net)
submitted 8 months ago by [email protected] to c/[email protected]

I want to replace reddit.com/r/modernart with a Lemmy version and I otherwise only have a Lemmy.ml account. I'd prefer to keep the community on Hexbear. There isn't really a community on reddit to migrate and I doubt anyone would join Hexbear for it, I just want to better focus the core idea of it here.

Modernism is super relevant to the left, but it isn't well-represented by /c/art or /c/urbanism or /c/literature or /c/music or /c/history since it's a whole-ass thing in itself. I want it to be posts like this where there's a background and discussion for specific 1860s-1960s works/buildings/ideas/movements, how they made the 20th century different from the 19th, and how that informed their/our politics: https://www.reddit.com/r/modernart/comments/tlxspt/ee_cummings_next_to_of_course_god_america_i/

/c/selfimprovement (hexbear.net)
submitted 8 months ago by [email protected] to c/[email protected]

copying from my other thread:

As leftists, we understand that a lot of individual problems are caused by systemic issues. However, I think that there is still a lot that can be done on the individual level to improve your life.

Most online self-improvement spaces have a reactionary slant and are dominated by the same type of guy, which is another great reason to have a self-improvement comm on this website.

We can change the name of the comm to something more fitting if you have some suggestions.

If somebody wants to mod the comm, please let me know because I think I wouldn't have enough time.

I think it’s important to reflect on our history and discuss how we can better ourselves. I think in particular the fact that many of you deny the Tiananmen Square massacre, I think it would be beneficial to share the facts and mourn the losses.

For those of us who hate trains, public transportation and renewable energy sources, I think it’s only fair we have our own community to discuss oil prices and other things to do with fossil fuels

(Copy/paste from m*d application thread)

I hereby declare an official request for a trueanon community on Hexbear. There’s one on lemmygrad already but it has three subscribers and I became #2 and #3 after I figured out how to join a new instance.

I know chapo essentially serves the same purpose, but a TA comm could be used to gather the alarmingly more regular headlines about new “Jeffery Epstein(s) of ____” and our Pepe Silvia-style effort posts.

Plus I locked down the username and need to grow the investment
