Hello Everyone,

It's been a fun few months.

Lemmy is fascinating beta software, and I believe the future of the web forum. I also, unfortunately, believe that Rabbitea.rs may no longer be running Lemmy in the near future.

The reality is that Lemmy is very unstable to run, resource heavy, and difficult to affordably scale. These problems are solved as fediverse projects mature. Rabbitea.rs cannot afford to wait for that.

I know there are a small number of you who use this service very regularly - it is in your interest to create a lemmy account elsewhere and migrate your subscriptions.

Rabbitea.rs will return to the Fediverse! It won't be Lemmy.

Some of you may have noticed the recent explosion of malicious bots uploading illegal material onto lemmy communities.

Communities have been forced to shutdown, or restricting their users privileges. We've seen this before across small communities and Fediverse projects alike, and unfortunately this is part of the growing pains of running a community on the internet.

What does this mean for Rabbitea.rs? Put simply, we have put contingencies in place. Uploads to rabbitea.rs - and cached images from other sites - are scanned and matched to known hashes of abusive material, and will be reported to the authorities in the proper jurisdiction of the uploader.

This is a major problem on the internet, and we take it seriously. Thanks for your continued support.

This morning an error occurred which required us to revert to an earlier backup of the site.

Some user accounts, posts, and DMs may have been lost - we apologize for the inconvenience. The problem in question will not come up again.

Link Aggregators have been the hidden backbone of the internet since Usenet days, and with the flood of information that is the modern internet, they've become ever more important.

Our intent with this Lemmy Instance is to provide a space for well-moderated and well-curated communities.

Conversation over memes, original thought over copy-pastas; things of that nature.

Be sure to read the rules of each community on the site - but otherwise, enjoy yourselves!
