My iHome from 2008 finally lost a stereo channel, so I thought I could get a newer one at BestBuy only to find that they were steadily disappearing, notably in popularity as well.

What I found instead were the JBL's - and please excuse me audiophiles, as this whole experience is the very essence of 'living under a rock', I am aware. The store models weren't too loud (really noisy store in New York), and some speakers were more blasted than others so there wasn't a fair judgement for me to make. I've tried doing my research on google and older Reddit posts, and combined with the store experience, found myself drawn to the

Charge 5, Flip 6, and Xtreme 3.

I like to listen to delicate noise/asmr based music, and I know that for popular commercial speakers, bass and volume are usually the big sell - but I'm looking for sharp quality and good balance. And I don't care much for portability. I keep seeing people insist on each of these three , and I'm not sure what to think. My vague impression of xtreme 3 was that it sounded fuller, but again, I wasn't in a great environment for it. Flip 6 seems hyped for exceeding expectations despite its size. And then Charge 5 just keeps getting mentioned as a favorite.

I live in a quiet bedroom and listen to a ton of music. I'm a sensitive synesthete so quality and balance mean a lot to me (I love to dig into those textures). Between these three which should I get? Or is there a better option I'm unaware of due to my under-rock-living...

Thanks guys:)

I tried to search for an answer before posting this, but no luck. I'm looking for a KVM switch with the following:

  • Two USB-C inputs
  • Four USB-A outputs
  • Two+ HDMI outputs
  • Not a crazy price (ie $400+)
  • (Nice to have: 1 USB-C output)

The goal is to have two laptops (closed all the time) with three monitors (connected either by 3 HDMI ports (ideal) or two HDMI, and one USB-A/C graphics card adapter) and four USB-connected devices, connected by this (ideally small/low profile) KVM switch. I can't find anything that fits the bill. Either the inputs are USB-A, there's way more ports than I need, and/or the price is almost as much a basic laptop ($600-$800). Am I stupid for not being able to find it or are my expectations unreasonable? If the latter, why the heck are KVMs so expensive? Thanks in advance for the help!

Hi I have similar problem which was discussed few times here on the forum. I have bought recently old version of used focal alphas 50. The sound quality seems to be supreme, I didnt notice the suspicious behavior, but after hour of play my ears started to ache. I have big break in music production, and compared to my previous Tannoys golf 7 they are loud. Any ideas how to fix that, maybe reducing high and łów frequencies?

An accident happened and one of my KEF R3 speakers dropped on the floor and no longer work, is there anything worth salvaging from it or should I just toss it? I plugged it in and no audio comes out at all now.

I love the exotic sounding scales and I love the sitar and the percussion.

I also love the vocals. I find it very interesting.

I haven't had much luck just googling because I don't really know what to search for.

Looking for great recordings obviously ,lol.

Thanks in advance. /../,

Are DACs really a game-changer or just a marketing gimmick? I recently acquired the Topping E30 DAC II, not because I consider myself an audiophile, but due to the shift to remote work during the pandemic. As part of my home setup upgrade, I invested in the Presonus Eris 3.5 speakers, which undeniably improved my sound quality.

While exploring ways to enhance my audio experience, I repeatedly encountered recommendations for DACs. With limited knowledge about DACs (and no input from my friends), I decided to take the plunge and opted for the Topping E30 II.

Yet, my enthusiasm was met with a sense of disappointment. I'm left wondering whether my setup lacks the high-end speakers necessary to truly appreciate the difference, or if there's more to understand. This experience has prompted me to question whether DACs truly make a substantial impact on an average setup, or if they often fall into the realm of marketing hype.

Seeking insights from the knowledgeable members of this audiophile community, I ask: Have you encountered a similar situation with DACs? Do you believe they genuinely deliver noteworthy sound quality improvements for setups that aren't considered top-tier? Or, from your experience, are they more of an optional enhancement? Your valuable perspectives would greatly assist me in navigating this aspect of audio upgrades. Thank you for sharing your insights!

Hi, I really enjoy exploring audio formats and physical sound hardware. I use a Logitech Z5500 5.1 system and I love it and its ability to decode. My dad introduced me to DSOM by Pink Floyd on DTS, and I've been desperate to find more albums since. Any recommendations for where to get downloads, or even physicals, of DTS albums? Thank you in advance.

Hey All,

I've been building my own cables for a while using insulated, multi strand, oxygen free copper, cable + gold plated locking banana plugs, a soldering iron, and heat sleeves. This is all awesome and the results have been stellar. I've been using this cable from monolith over the last couple of years "Monolith Speaker Wire - 50 Feet - Silver - 12AWG with Braided Nylon Sleeve, Oxygen Free Copper, Multi-Strand Conductors, PE Insulated"

Unfortunately it looks like it doesn't exist for sale anymore - I've been scouring for a decent replacement and everything I'm seeing of similar quality is like 30 bucks a foot which is many times more expensive.

Does anyone have any advice on where to find great cable for similarly cheap that I can use to keep doing this? I guess I could also start building it from the smaller strands too but this was so low effort for such good results :)

Edit: Boy either I'm terrible at writing at 7am or this is a community that struggles with reading comprehension.

To restate, I'm saying that 30 dollars a foot sucks and I'm not going to pay that. I was getting something I liked for 2 bucks a foot prior. Curious if you know where to find something similar to what I'm looking for at a more reasonable price point now that the product I was using is no longer available.

To be clear: I was building my speaker cables using the monolith product and some generic gold plated terminals for like 2 dollars a foot plus 2 buck terminals and some heat shrink/solder material on the order of pennies. I'm just looking to keep doing that as I've been happy with the performance, appearance, and durability of what I ended up with.

I know that expensive voodoo is dumb, that's why I was building cables myself for a couple bucks per foot

I know that I can go and buy something else that isn't what I'm looking for - thank you for letting me know.

What I don't know, is where else to find what I was looking for - at a similar price point to what I had been spending.

Thank you all.
