Is there anyway to change the Zoom and Overscan settings directly on the Apple TV? When I go into Settings > Video and Audio > Zoom and Overscan, the full screen text is cropped off and not fully visible.

I can't find any setting to change it on my LG TV.

Is there any option to change this setting directly on the Apple TV?

@appletv What is one thing you wish the Apple TV could do but it can't right now?

I recently was given an older apple tv for free (A1625, Apple TV HD, came out in 2015) and it’s capable of running the newest software from what I can tell, I noticed a fair share of apps missing so I was curious what am I missing out on if anything major

What are some of the big upsides for a Apple TV over any Android or other smart TV devices on the market?

I'm not complaining about the content, I'm upset with the experience. It has the worst user experience I've ever used with a streaming service, and I have Hulu with ads. FWIW we're watching on a Samsung TV that's a couple years old.

My wife and I have had Apple TV off and on since it came out and we always quit watching it and cancel. It's a bad, frustrating chore to use so we avoid it. This time we got it because it's included with our new phone plan, but we quickly remembered why we don't watch anything on it.

Apple TV doesn't remember where we were in an episode. If we stop watching and come back to the episode it starts from the beginning. If we pause the video and wait too long it jumps back to the menu and we lose where we were. If we stop watching at any point, hopefully we remember where we were when we start watching again because we have to fast forward to it.

If we pause the video too many times it becomes unwatchable. It plays back in this amazingly weird jump back, jump forward, playback of stuttering weirdness. So if we pause but don't want to let it pause too long we unpause and pause again so we can keep our place. But the only real option is to pause and note the time so we can start the episode over and fast forward back to where we were.

Apple TV can't even remember what episode we are on, continually jumping back to an early season episode even though we are on season 2 or 3. Say we just finished episode 8 of season 3 and credits are rolling, we press the back button to go to the episode selection (it doesn't have a next episode option, which seems weird) and it jumps all the way left back to e1s1. So to get to the next episode we have to move the selector right dozens of times to the next episode to start it. If we come back the next day the show is listed in our "continue watching" as e1s1. We can tell it we've watched that episode by long button press then 'Mark Episode as Watched', but who wants to do that after every episode?

The audio drifts, often off by seconds ahead of the video. We hear sound effects before they happen, talking is weird, etc. CC text appears and disappears before we see them talk. This might get fixed if we stop playing the episode, and restart it and then fast forward to where we were, but often we just deal with it because of the hassle. Imagine watching Ted Lasso and you hear the goal happen 2 seconds before the video. Super cool.

We want closed captions on, and it says it's on, but they aren't. We have to go into the menu which says CC is on but change it to something else then back to get them to show up. Amazon Prime video has a similar bug but it still shows CC but in the wrong language sometimes.

Watching anything on Apple TV is a chore and annoying and I would never pay for this "service".

Is this the actual user experience Apple designed? I get that they are a walled garden with the "best experience" on Apple devices, but this is horrible and would never make me consider Apple devices as a good thing.

Oh, and I've searched for solutions but they are crazy. Why would I need to go to iTunes on a different device to change settings, to log out and back in etc? We don't have any Apple devices associated with this account, so apparently a fix isn't possible? 3rd party device problem they say. Call Apple support? Why? We have 10 other streaming apps that work without these horrible issues. We've uninstalled and reinstalled the app, logged out and in, but it just works the same way as I've described. It seems to be designed this way.

This is the user experience they give people. No wonder they need to pump their subscription numbers with free offers.

I got an email about the new TV interface for Spotify, it said it was for TVs, streamers, consoles, etc.

I open Spotify on the ATV and it’s the same shit it’s been for years.

They never implemented lyrics either.

I like it too much to move away, but this kinda pisses me off.

Anyone watching this at all? Made a post in some tv subreddit - but as far as I can tell there are no discussions and I really don’t want to switch back to Reddit to discuss one show.

Thoughts so far if you are?

This might be kind of a weird post, but I want to see if anyone experiences the same thing as I do.

First of all, I think the Foundation opening credits are awesome. Maybe some of my favorites ever, really. Really visually stunning and the score is excellent.

But it’s the mix of the score that I want to talk about. Does anyone else feel like the opening music is…”flat?” At no point in this epic audio does my sub kick in to fill out the brass or percussion. When the final logo slams onto the screen, there is technically a big hit in the score, but, just, nothing from the low end of the spectrum. I feel like I should feel that hit in my bones, and there’s nothing.

The show itself sounds great. Full sound stage; the ships rumble my room and explosions or gunfire are punchy.

But, yeah, just curious if anyone else has ever thought about this. It just makes me sad because the credits are SO COOL only to feel like the music is kept in this narrow band of sound.

This is driving me nuts. My wife and I are watching The Office. I’ve purchased the whole series through Apple. Every once in a while I go in to continue watching and rather than just playing it from the only place I’ve ever watched it it instead decides to open it in the Peacock app. I’ve never watched The Office in the Peacock app. Then to continue I have to find it in my library and scroll to the episode I’m watching.

Anyone else have this issue?

Hi,

Has anyone tested whether tvos 17 fixes the bug where audio is out of sync if "match frame rate" is enabled?

Within the last 2 weeks, the volume button on my Apple TV 4K remote has started charging the TV volume by 5 for each press (both up and down). Prior to this is working fine with it going up or down by 1 for each press.

The volume is controlled via HDMI and I think it may have been after a tvOS update that it started, but not 100% sure (currently running 16.5). I can’t find anything in the settings that may affect it.

Anyone have any idea what may be the cause, or how to fix it?

This is a fairly old article but thought it might be nice to discuss.

I think an AppleTV HomePod combination would be super interesting, especially if they developed full surround using other homepods as surround speakers.

Also wonder if the new continuity camera feature of TVos is an indication that a device with camera is still coming or Apple ported this feature over instead of pursuing a built in camera.

WOO Severance is addictive. I just watched the first season for a second time and I am JAZZED for the next season.

I'm only a few episodes into the first season, but it has great special effects and I'm really getting into the story. A few times, the news cutaways of Nixon/JFK look/sound a bit weird, but overall it's very convincing.

Just got to the episode with Wernher in court and it was TENSE.

Does it stay good throughout the 3 seasons? Worth watching the whole thing?
