Heard of the Mario kart mod ctgp 7 and I'm interested, I heard its from universal updater, what should I know?

Also, I heard it had an anti cheat. In abotehr game, monster hunter stories I used a few plugins to just get a lot of items in my endgame save, could cheats in another game cause this anticheat to trigger?. Should I disable or remove rosalina altogether?

Since there is no thread about this on Lemmy, I figured I may as well make one in case someone hadn't heard about it.

Anyway, a new app called Netpass has been released that allows Streetpass over the internet. The app is still kinda rough, a few games like Tomodachi Life have a minor bugs, but for the most part it works almost exactly like if you conventionally streetpassed someone.

Does anyone know how or why my Activity Log book has suddenly jumped from the default 16 pages to 32 pages?

I like to see all my games in the activity log, and I've always had trouble organizing it so that all the random system apps wouldn't clog up the spaces available for games.

I've not installed any patch for the app ever and I don't know of one that added this functionality. I checked my other console (which is also modded) to check I wasn't crazy, and sure enough, it only has 16 pages in the activity log. The only stuff I've installed lately is SpotPassDumper9 which is completely unrelated, and a patch that removes the camera shutter sound. I downloaded an unofficial Activity Log called Cthulu last year, but I know that I've only had these extra pages as of very recently (I only noticed now)

I guess that I have added some more games to the Activity Log recently, so my only possible theory could be that the app automatically doubled the amount of pages because I was starting to get close to filling up the total 128 slots that the first 16 pages have available. Does anyone have any knowledge about what's happened here?

Hello everyone. For everyone who may own a 3DS or Wii U, I'm sharing this out to as many places I can think of, where the awareness can make an impact. Please read if you own a 3DS or Wii U at all, or know anybody who does:

The SpotPass servers by Nintendo will be shutting down on April 8th, 2024 at 4PM PDT. The SpotPass Archival Project has been created by the 3DS and Wii U Homebrew modding community, to make sure as much SpotPass data as humanly possible is preserved for the foreseeable future and not lost forever in the coming few days. This archival project can only be made possible by the donations of any individuals owning a 3DS and Wii U (not a donation of money, but rather a donation of SpotPass data stored on your system)

This data can only be collected before April 8th. Any and all dumps made or sent after the end-date will be useless due to the nature of how the archive process works. The dump does not require you to have a modded or Homebrewed console, and can be done completely unmodded. All you need extra as an unmodded user, is a PC or laptop.

Even if you make the dump before April 8, and send it to them afterwards, the dump will be useless regardless, this is why we are frantically trying to spread the word about the project as quickly as possible, as there is a lot of data that is still going to go away permanently regardless of the efforts of this project. The data is stored offline locally on your 3DS and Wii U, so you may be confused as to why you can't just make the dump after the date. For a better explanation, here is a Discord message from the official Discord server which explains things. I am not a developer of the project, I'm just someone who is passionate about gaming and technology preservation, and wants to get this out there.

The data is going to be used by the developers to put towards developing a replacement for the SpotPass network, similar to what was done by the Homebrew community who created the Nintendo Network replacement, dubbed "Pretendo Network".

Even if you don't think you have much data on your system, please help dump it towards the archive as soon as possible (within the next couple of days), because you likely have some things you don't know about. The process does not require a modded console at all, and the offical site here, has instructions for both users of modded consoles, and users of unmodded consoles. You can ask for help in the official Discord server of the project here and people will be very willing to help.

There are also many many niche, lesser known games, which have absolutely no data archived for them still to this day, so any help archiving them is vital. Thanks for reading, and I ask you to also share this out to as many people as you possibly can. Even if you do not own a 3DS or Wii U, please share this out to anyone you know who owns one, or even those whom you suspect might have one.

Hey guys!

As you may all know, the Big N soon will shutdown all online services for the 3DS family and the Wii U. Surprising? Not much. But hurts nonetheless.

Though I personally don't really use actively my 3DS (and I also sold out from it a long time ago, still have 2, somewhat functioning O3DSs *:waiting to be repaired), I couldn't help but dust off my working* console and went online.

Apart from the nerdgasm I had (since, 7 is my absolute favorite Mario Kart in every possible way) I couldn't help but notice how fucking awful the online was. Same 4-5 japanese dude, fully packed with cheats and hacks.

My heart was broken, but all that doesn't matter. This is why I'm kinda OK with the shutdown, tho I don't know about the other games. I mean, Mario Maker, Mario Kart 8, Splatoon, these all will be gone, and I'm sure lots of people have similar feelings towards their games like I do to MK7. So saying this could sound pretty harsh, but if this is the case with the other games as well - and the Wii U's also a pretty open and used book for hacks nowadays - maybe... it's really time. Honestly, it's just WILD how online gaming on the 3DS (and probably on the Wii U as well) works from today's standpoint.

But I just got off-tracks.

What I really wanted to talk about and just wanted to give a little bit of context for this, is Pretendo.

https://pretendo.network/

If you don't know about Pretendo, it's an open-source Nintendo Network implementation. Basically, you can create a PNID here on the normal way you would create an NNID on your machine, and all your 3DS online services are now routed to Pretendo. Currently, some games, but at least Mario Kart 7 online works, pretty much flawlessly (except Friend functions). But it's real, it works, it's amazing... just really empty.

You can find the list of the compatible games and their states.

It even has some kind of Miiverse alternative too up and running, called Juxtaposition.

Using a modded console, it's just a matter of installing a title. https://pretendo.network/docs/install
You can change between Pretendo and Nintendo here.

Though use it at your own risk, as any homebrews that mess with the system in one or another way.

I'm maybe just too excited, but the online services will be killed off anyway, and I just love MK7 way too much, so I'm glad these people made it possible to run custom servers for it.

What do you guys think about it?

Are there any homebrew apps that can hack in items and stuff or edit saves without needing an external PC?

Mainly I want to give my monster hunter stories save some items

  1. UniversalUpdater This is like a package manager for HB Apps that also provides an easy way to update them.

  2. Checkpoint/JKSM Save manager for games. Always good to backup save data or to extract them for editing.

  3. TWL Patcher Featured in my last post, DS game upscale and widescreen patches.

  4. Pretendo/Nimbus Custom online play server from the pretendo community.

  5. Anemone3DS Theming tool for 3DS HomeMenu. With direct download support and QR code scanner. Very convenient

  6. Fast PlayCoin Set your playcoin count to 300 instantly. Also possible with JKSM

  7. FBI Title Manager and installer, also with QR code and URL support.

  8. ftpd pro FTP provider for 3DS, my go to tool to transfer files.

  9. GYTB Custom HomeMenu Badges

  10. ModMoon Mod manager for 3DS.

So, I have a save file on a 3ds, its my now nodded 3ds

Can I make a backup of the save file to other devices and maybe decrypt it for possible use elsewhere?

10

Just a reminder that this thing exists. I use it for all my DS games and it is a new experience to see them in Widescreen and upscaled on the 3DS screen.

So I have a new3ds xl I wanna hack and 2 questions

Will legit game cartridges still work with it?

And what hardware besides the 3ds is needed? Is a microsd needed?

I have a modded 3ds LL, and I don't speak Japanese. I relied heavily on Google translate to get it modded but at this point I don't have many problems that locale emulation won't fix. But I am playing the US version of Animal Crossing New Leaf, and in order to play online with other people it's asking me to agree to a user agreement that I just can't find in my system settings, and if one does exist it might not set the correct flags for the US version of the game. I'd like to see the online stuff before they shut down the servers, and the AC community is trying to organize something on there in a week or two. I'm guessing region changing will let me just approve the user agreement, and it looks like for me there wouldn't be any downside because I have no intention of unmodding, and I have no purchases on the eShop nor a Japanese NNID (would making one help with this issue?) but I figured I'd try asking if someone else might have a different solution? Having it in Japanese is just kinda neat, despite the occasional headache requiring Google translate.

Title, essential I know there's the usb c power mod, and the capture card mod (hopefully) but is there anything else I should take a look at? Hoping that if I am gonna open up my 2ds I should only have to once.

Hi, I recently dumped my copy of mh3u using gm9 and I want to transfer the save data from the cartridge to the SD app.

I tried using Checkpoint but I'm not sure how to do so, I have backed up my cartridge save but the SD app doesn't show up on Checkpoint.

Thanks for any help ^^

Figure I'd check here, but since I'm currently the only mod here, if anyone wants to help and take up moderation for 3DShacks, then lemme know and I can set that up :).

Have to comment down below given how the site goes there, assuming things haven't changed on that end.

Supposing there are some, that is? It seems like an underappreciated side of custom firmware & homebrew that it may enable the creation of altogether new games, if the scene has developed enough.

Also if there may be a better community to ask this, let me know!

  • Fix older system versions (4.x to 8.x) not booting since Luma3DS v13.0
    • On 4.x, Arm11 custom sysmodules have been disabled. This means no * Rosalina and no region-free; if you're still on these system versions, please just upgrade after having installed Luma3DS.
  • Fix emuNAND support for system version 5.0 (and possibly some other ancient system versions like this one). This was a long-standing issue
  • Fix an issue where Arm11 svcBreak exceptions were not displayed as such since Luma3DS v13.0
  • Fix an issue with plugins related to Home Menu notification
  • Properly grant access to all Arm11-accessible IO to 3DSX homebrew
  • Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience

Sometimes when I exit an app (usually happens with apps like FBI) I get a constant high pitched noise over the background music of the homescreen. Any fix?

I tried changing the audio output type [tried surround, mono & stereo] but it doesn't seem to help.

Any fix?

I just found out that you could run pico-8 games with fake-08 which is really cool! Other things I've done include using Tiny VNC to stream a desktop and EasyRPG player for RPG Maker 2000/2003. I've also seen someone install linux at one point.

What other cool or underrated things you could do on a homebrewed 3DS besides the usual play 3DS/DS/GBA games for free?
