Literally 1984

Post whatever you like, but make sure to follow the rules. No thoughtcrimes.

The bot is very literal. "This" includes "is".

THIS WEEK'S RULES:

  1. Read this, and give your thoughts.
  2. No posting.

Big Brother is watching you.

MODERATORS

Hi all! Firstly, I want to thank everyone who has participated so far in this little experiment, I hope everyone had fun.

I have been thinking for a while now (and you will probably notice that no rule rotation has occurred yet), that things need to change somewhat to stay fresh.

The gameplay, right now, feels a bit stale to me. Maybe I am picking bad rules, but more likely, there's a problem with the core gameplay itself.

I am thinking, maybe the community should focus less on bot moderation (the bot has issues) and use traditional moderation instead. This would allow more subjective rules, and also would prevent the errors that the bot had.

I would like opinions on this; whether you think it should stay exactly how it is (of course adding more rule types as suggested), or should broader changes be made? Please comment below and let your opinions be heard!

I will have the community locked again for a bit whilst this is in discussion.

About this community, and what is to come…

I had an idea for a neat community. You know the 1984 meme, where people will call 1984 at the slightest hint of imposed authority? Well, what if I made a sublemmy all about being banned for arbitrary reasons.

My idea for this community: weekly, a new rule would be added to the community, replacing an older one. These would be arbitrary things such as “posts must start with a %” or “images are not allowed”. Then, the community would be moderated by a bot, scanning new posts for violating these rules. A Big-Brother-Bot if you will.

If you have been caught violating the rules, you are banned from the community until the next rule is added (so weekly unbans).

The idea is that it's a challenge to create a post conforming to all the rules. It should feel rewarding managing to post without receiving an instant ban. You can then always try again next week, if you do fail.

Apart from that gimmick, the community would allow anything to be posted, whether news, memes, etc (as long as they follow site rules of course).

This sublemmy will remain locked until I have written the bot. I’m hoping that will only take a week or two. Would appreciate help from anyone with more experience in that area. If you have any ideas/suggestions, please leave them below. I would also like to gauge interest in this idea, if people aren’t really interested in the idea, I may not go ahead with it. Just thought it could be a cool community premise.

Like seriously, who thinks the workers will actually stand up against Big Brother though?

The bot is keeping us all down. We need to ban the bot, free the lemmy and post without accusations of thought crimes before we can organise to take down BB.

But how?

Like seriously, how much time do you need to spend, to be this cultured? Am I the only one who loves watching batshit insane copypastas, like this?

12

Like seriously, thank you to all who have joined and are participating in this little experiment I decided to run. You all are the best.

Glory to Oceania! Big Brother is watching you!

Like seriously, what can't you do with them?

you can ..

  • Whittle your friends down in a game of marbles.
  • Have a nice treat and suck on the marbles.
  • You can even give them to your enemies as snacks, and watch them bite glass.

and ...

  • Ship them in a box.
  • Insert them into... places.
  • Launch them as projectiles.
  • Entertain guests.
  • New and clever ways to use marbles.
  • Cleverly fill a sock with them to use as a weapon.
  • Everybody loves marbles.

also...

  • Use them as impromptu slippery caltrops.
  • Surely youve been convinced candy coated marbles are the best ?

more on me ...

  • Recently i won a set of beautiful marbles.
  • Even though there's only two.
  • Seen many, but these ones are a beautiful cyan hue.
  • I hope to win more marbles.
  • So i can candy coat them.
  • To add to my wonderful collection !

Like seriously, I had not expected things to go so well for our glorious banhammer of a leader. No revolts, no strikes, no dislikes! What a beautiful and orderly community we have built.

I, for one, welcome our new bot overlord!

Like seriously, did you really think you could suppress my posts with these rules???? I'm going to continue to post informative posts to the proletariat while still abiding by your restrictive rules until your day of reckoning comes and we're no longer suppressed for having our own thoughts and ideas.

I want to talk about Venus but I don't know a lot about it except for some video I watched years ago about how 2 engineers came up with the idea of floating cities that could sustain life on Venus.

Venus' athmosphere has loads of sulphuric acid and carbon dioxide but apparently we could bomb the planet with hydrogen bombs to make graphite and water from the reaction with the CO2.

Also, at 464C, we'd probably be burnt pretty bad and squashed down because we would be like 90 time heavier. 1 day is 117 earth days so can you imagine how long a typical work week would be?

Even with all of these negative points, I would still prefer to live on Venus than to be stuck here, forced to adhere to these ridiculous rules that attempt to keep us oppressed so that the 1% can live all fancy in their castles and eat their fancy cheeses

Anyone banned last week is now un-banned.

I have now whitelisted myself in the bot, so hopefully I won't get banned again if I coded it correctly.

The bot is still very much unstable, so you may find that you get banned late. If so, that is because the bot likely crashed, and I haven't restarted it yet.

I have seen all the suggestions posted, and they all are awesome. I will slowly be writing more rule types into the bot. I hope one day to automate rule generation, but right now the bot is far too rudimentary and unstable for that.

Feel free to leave any feedback/suggestions about the community down below.

In a world of constant surveillance, freedom becomes an illusion.

War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength.

Genuinely curious if mods can circumvent the rules, or if they will be silenced for their thought crimes. Lemme see a violation post!

whats a lemmy

20

I have no clue what this is

21

I know right, that is amazing. But you might think: why?

No you don't, you never have, since you don't exist and you never have. No one is even capable of holding such a thought, so since that is the case, you don't exist.

22

I'll start with an idea of mine: users could be banned if they used an English preposition in a comment. What other ideas do you guys have?

Macrophages play a role in both innate immunity and adaptive immunity.

In innate immunity, they phagocytise the pathogens and they also release cytokines that promote the recruitment of other immune cells to the site of infection. Some of these cells are Natural Killer cells and basophils but they don't start with M.

In adaptive immunity, Macrophages have the ability to breakdown the pathogen and find specific markers on the pathogens that can be used as a target by the adaptive immune response. This marker is called an antigen.

They then take the antigen and present it on a receptor called MHC Class 2. This MHC Class 2 basically holds the antigen while the Macrophage makes its way to a lymph node, where T Helper cells are located.

The T Helper cells can then analyse the antigen on the MHC and promote the proliferation of T and B cells which will specifically seek out that antigen in the body and destroy any cells that have that antigen present.

Here's a video of phagocytosis in action, its pretty cool that this stuff is just happening inside of us and we have no control over it.
