I have 3 external HDD.

3TB, 5 years old, has sector errors. Formating dosent help.

6 TB, 4 years old, dead, dosent turn on

8 TB, works, 2.5 years old

All of them are encrypted. Why do they die so fast? I turn them on like once in a month and use them for 2hours.

Is the encryption? 8-10 hours encrypting, heat... which is causing the errors?

I have a new 10 TB HDD but im not sure if I should encrypt it.

I make sure that: room temperature, no vibrations, no falling/shaking.. how do they die so fast?
