My poor cat scratched his head by accident and won't leave the cut alone, so it's cone time. Unfortunately, every cone we've tried had been incredibly disruptive to his life. The newest one is at least lighter and he eats okay wearing it, but he's still miserable.

I'm willing to even make one if someone has a pattern they've used. I tried a hat, but he gets it off right away. I clip his claws shorter already, and it's not quite enough to keep him from reinjuring himself.

Any suggestions? He has allergies, so this is going to be an occasional problem.

My cat hated Elizabethan collars and got stuck in places with them frequently, but after switching to a donut collar he became a lot more comfortable.

Sounds like I should give the donut a shot

My friend used one for her cat, and it had the added bonus of making him look ridiculous. He didn’t seem to mind it though.

He looks handsome for an elderly goblin!

Most definitely!

He looks ridiculous even without a cone.

Rachel of Rachel & Jun made some for her cats. Her DIY stuff tends to be more helpful than most IMO since it's not just "I made this thing" but "here's all the crap that went wrong while I was making this thing". https://youtube.com/watch?v=Me587OYbyRk&t=215

Have you tried the small inflatable ones?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

That was going to be my next thing to buy if the current one fails. They have no trouble getting to food and water with the ones you've used? Do you remember the brand?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I don't know the brand. My mom got it from a neighbor - she thought it was a cat lifejacket. 🤣🤣 We used it when one had an infected bite on her leg after a bad fight with her adopted sister. It was only for a few days, but i dint remember her having issues.

Lmao I guess in a sense it's like a lifejacket?

I remember trying a home made cardboard one that worked pretty well. Make it just big enough for him to stop messing with it.

I found this link with some suggestions while trying to find a picture or video https://pangovet.com/pet-lifestyle/cats/diy-cat-cone-collars/ they make a paper plate one which is the same idea. Might be a good place for inspiration.
