@framework Good morning from Spain!.
My Macbook Pro 2011 is dying. After upgrading it to the maximum, now it's stuck in an outdated OS and I can't install or update new software. So I want to escape from the “Apple cult”. No way to pay 3000 € for something you can't upgrade.
I am thinking seriously to buy a Framework 16' with the 8gb gpu to work with Ubuntu and Win11 for simulators. But I have heard some bad comments about the quality of the keyboard, the spacers, and the noisy fan. Any advice?

I’ve had my 13” for about 18 months and it has been a fantastic laptop.

The keyboard is way better than my MacBook m1. The touchpad is comparable (none are as good as Mac touchpads but it is miles ahead of most laptops). Some people complain about the hinges but I’m not sure why. If I’m doing something intensive the fans come on. They certainly aren’t silent but I wouldn’t consider them noisy compared to laptops I’ve had in the past (including my older intel MacBook)

I run fedora mostly out of the box without issues. My one complaint would be lack of S3 sleep which can cause a lot of battery drain during suspend. I use a hybrid approach where it now suspends for 30 minutes then goes into hibernation. That works well although I miss the instant on.

I expect I’ll stay with framework for the future. I haven’t had to do any upgrades or replacements but it is really nice knowing I can.

It's the first gen hinges people complain about. They were inconsistent and some were very flimsy.

@fitgse @framework
Thanks fitgse for the info!. Sure the Framework 13" is great, I would have no doubt to buy it since everyone speaks wonderfully about it.
But the "problem" is that there are not so many reviews about the 16', and some of them report some high noise with the fan when the GPU is attached. I have a 13' Mac right now, but I miss a bigger screen and a GPU to play flight simulators on.
I know for sure Framework will be my next computer, but should I wait for a new batch of the 16"?

Amd's integrated graphics in the 13 should run flight sims. Edit: source: have a 13 and play flightgear maxed out. Msft fs should run easily on low or and probably will be fine on medium.

The keyboard is fine, but the spacers feel a bit flimsy. They’re sending out some sort of stickers to help fix that (haven’t received mine yet).

Overall I’m very satisfied with my frameworks, but coming from apple you’ll need to anticipate much worse audio and trackpad.
