When Mozilla reviewed cars for privacy, they all failed... But only Nissan had TOS that said they'd monitor and sell your sex data.

In the word of Catherine Zeta Jones, "they had it comin"

Nissan had TOS that said they'd monitor and sell your sex data.

Not really true. Just said if they did happen to, that you'd consent to it.

It really just saves them a lot of energy to write something akin to "we may royally fuck you in every way imaginable" because they know no one reads it anyway.

Nissan is my favorite out of the Japanese Big Four, and it's sad to see how far they've fallen. At least they aren't Mitsubishi - who are dead to me - but this situation is pretty grim. I bet being stuck with the french idiots that are Renault also didn't help much.

Mitsubishis are just Nissans at this point. The interior on the outlander is an exact clone of the Nissan rogue.

I’ve got 110k miles on a Mitsubishi and zero problems so far

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

110-130k is like the absolute minimum id expect for there to be no problems for any car imo.

I’ve had problems and recalls on both dodge van and Honda civic, so compared to them my Mitsubishi has been stellar. But yes agreed

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago

Counterpoint - my wife's Eclipse blew the motor at 120k miles.

Whats the problem with Renault? I don't think that they are at the fault there

One word.

Transmissions.

Hopefully they'll stay afloat. They're a lot more affordable than the other Japanese competition. It's what most of my family drives.

But yeah, I can see they aren't doing so well. My mom just bought a new rogue and the dealer was a ghosn town. Compared to the few Toyota dealers we visited, which were fully packed and staffed with a dozen people. The Toyota managers were also really unwilling to budge on their trade in offers and deals. I mean 7% APR for people with excellent credit? Fuck off with that. Nissan was practically tripping over themselves with deals. It's the only place offering 0% APR, my dad loved that.

I know the cvt woes scared people away, but just about everyone else is using a cvt at this point too. Subaru, Toyota, Chevy, etc. Hopefully Nissan has gotten those issued sorted out by now.

If they want to stay afloat then they should simply make a good product. They aren’t particularly nice to be in and aren’t particularly reliable

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I dunno, I like my old Altima and my mom's new rogue is pretty nice inside. Their newer stuff seems a lot nicer than what it was over the last 10 years though.

Can't speak for the reliability, but we haven't had any major issues yet. We've got two cars that are 20+years old, my mom's old car was 12 years old before she traded it in for a few one.

Their V6 and their non CVT autos seem to be pretty bulletproof but those are fairly old designs iirc. I havent been in anything super new but yea I havent liked their newerish interiors at all. Hopefully theyve changed. I do like the exterior look of the new frontiers

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Look inside the new rogue. It's super nice. The new Pathfinder looks like a much older car inside, though.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 2 weeks ago

Everyone makes CVTs, correct. Nissan is just particularly terrible at it, with Mercedes not far behind. They were lasting literal weeks in some cases.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I’m a big fan of their Frontier. Sad to see them in bad shape.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

If they started shipping a small truck, I bet it would sell. And sell an updated version of the leaf with temperature regulated batteries, fast charging, and a modern charging connector instead of Chademo. A decent delivery van would also add to their bottom line.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

They used to have a small truck, or is my memory that bad?

[–] [email protected] 11 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

Your memory is correct. Just about all car makers had small trucks in the 80s. Mazda even had the B2000 in the early 2000’s (rebadged and resold by Ford as well). Auto manufacturers have just gotten addicted to that sweet brodozer profit margin since then.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 weeks ago

Lol, yea, that's what I was thinking, 80's and 90's.

so many of these are still running and hauling incredible loads daily. indestructible solid engine.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 weeks ago

I've had two Frontiers! A 2008 that was the best vehicle I ever owed! So of course an idiot ran a red light and destroyed it. Because insurance was jerking me around I ended up buying a ratty 2006 Frontier that had been abused pretty bad. I've put 25k on it with rod knock and it just keeps going. That knock is coming to an end now though lol! I'm going to need to swap the engine out or end up with extra ventilation soon!

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 weeks ago

Hopefully they survive but this seems to be a self inflicted wound. They destroyed their reputation with the unreliable CVTs and now they are left competing with Stellantis in the subprime market, where deep discounts and risky lending is the only way to move inventory.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 weeks ago

Well yeah, they make crap cars

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 weeks ago

Mazda has been eating their lunch, their 2018+ models are much better cars than anything Nissan puts out.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 weeks ago

I have many fond memories of my '93 Altima. My first car.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago

I'd like to thank Nissan for having worse paint than my Subaru.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago

Good riddance, they done nothing but damage the auto industry in the last 10 years with their crusty designs and disposable construction.
