This is a place to motivate each other to control or stop drinking. It is also a place for non drinkers to discuss and share.

We may be anonymous strangers on the internet, but we have one thing in common. We may be a world apart, but we’re here together!

Welcome to the 24 hour pledge! I’m pledging myself to not drinking today, and invite you to do the same.

Maybe you’re new to c/stopdrinking and have a hard time deciding what to do next. Maybe you’re like me and feel you need a daily commitment or maybe you’ve been sober for a long time and want to inspire others.

It doesn’t matter if you’re still hung over from a three day bender or been sober for years, if you just woke up or have already completed a sober day. For the next 24 hours, lets not drink alcohol!

I can give it a go for one day.

IWNDWYT.

Question for the hivemind. I largely have navigated my sobriety journey alone with the the help of passively listening to podcasts or consuming quitlit and just recently started participating in the c/stopdrinking community. What resources and communities have you tried and what was your experience with them?

I tried at first with AA and that failed miserably. Quit lit helped, This Naked Mind was a game changer book for me. I found the stopdrinking group on that other site before the shitstorm happened. Oddly enough they asked me to be a mod but I declined to stick with Lemmy. I wish we had the counters showing. I might have to see if someone on GitHub wants a project. 🧐

Thanks for staying on Lemmy!

I didn't even bother with AA since it doesn't align with my beliefs. I like this community more than the other community. The smaller user presence has made this place feel more wholesome.

I totally agree with you all around. I had a hard time with the Higher Power. I love seeing the familiar user names all around lemmy. Like rings that all have a little overlapping all around. 😁

Day 27. I will not be drinking today.

Day 4 for me, alcohol free!

I'm not going to say it's getting easier. In fact, today I woke up with those minor justifications about "how good I've been being" and "how one or two won't hurt" floating about in my noggin.

But no, I've been feeling too good waking up clear headed (albeit tired. Still working on that sleep schedule!), and my anxiety is still up and down.

So I'm making a conscious decision to not listen to that little voice right now! It can only get better from here!

Thank you for posting this every day! I've been a lurker for a while before I decided I need a change, and this community was the first thing I thought of.

You're helping a ton of people move in the right direction at their own pace even if you don't hear about it!

Way to go! Making a daily commitment is doable.

Thank you! It seems like such a small thing at 4 days, but honestly, my "record" of consecutive sober days since 2020 is 5. I haven't even been able to make it a full week so far, and certainly not double digits.

But the 24 hour mantra is the thing I kept repeating to myself throughout the day to beat the tempting thoughts, actually!

"It's just for today. Fuck tomorrow. Focus on today and the fact that you're not drinking tonight!"
