Rebuilding it yourself is the only surefire way to get one that works and is in good condition. Do you still have the old batteries? 3rd party knockoff batteries are generally pretty easy to get into and swap the cells without destroying the casing.
Make sure you're well informed before you do this though. You cannot extinguish a lithium ion fire.
