So how did these leaks come about? Well, according to the insider, there are various mentions of Half-Life in the files of other Valve games, including Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2, and Deadlock. For example, a mention of HLX is included in Deadlock’s bug-reporter config files, which is similar to how Counter-Strike 2 was included in Dota 2’s bug-reporter files three years prior to its official unveiling. Likewise, Deadlock also includes references to the iconic HEV suit, gravity gun, and Xen creatures, the first of which has been renamed to the Burbank suit in the game’s files.

Uh huh. So this article is just a pile of bullshit.

"But that still doesn't mean you'll get to play it"

Well then it doesn't exist.

And until I actually am staring at the introduction screens, it's vaporware.

Have we gone on long enough to see the endless wheel of "HALF LIFE 3?????" once again spin back around? I remember seeing a handful of these a year, every time valve did anything.

Expect nothing, and you can't be disappointed.

Valve is notorious for working on games and then not releasing them. There were several Teamfortress 2 versions which only got leaked and playable in the last few years. Similarly HL 3 was worked on several times since HL2 ep2. But due to the company structure and large scope/expectations for such a HL, first person singleplayer game, every attempt was scrapped at some stage of development.

I can recommend Tyler McViker and gabe follower for two great Valve-Journalists with many insider connections and both fid thousands of hours datamining the engine. Its probably where the article got its informations.

I remember when they had an article in CGW back in the day showing off TF2 when it was still being built on the GoldSrc engine and it was going to be a more realistic war game going all in on the AI HL1's grunts used allowing you to command a whole group of dudes in a single player experience.

I am so glad it turned out the way it really released and not that.

I really enjoyed those couple years we had where the bullshit HL3 “news” stories were at a minimum.

Unfortunately with HL: Alyx, people are excited about Half Life again. We're here for at least the next 5 years
