Great photo! I always love these guys. The goth versions of Blue Jays!
I don't want to be pedantic but it's "Steller's Jay".
The bird is named after the German naturalist Georg Wilhelm Steller, the first European to record them, in 1741. source
A community for people who like birds, birdwatching and birding in general!
Feel free to share your photos and other birding-related content here. If a photo you post isn't yours, please credit the original creator! Additionally, it would be appreciated if the location of the sighting and a date were given when a photo or question is posted. You do not have to give the precise location, something like "Northern Idaho, June 2023" or even "North-Western US, June 2023" suffices.

Thank you for pointing this out. I wasn't aware of this movement. It seems like a great idea!
Yeah. I found it interesting. I have heard rumors that “ Audubon” might rename as well due to controversy around its namesake having been a slave trader.
Yes! I think they look like edgy Blue Jays haha!
Thank you so much!! I will edit!!
I love these birds. They’re very smart, but such assholes! They have learned to mimic a hawk’s call to scare off other little birds, and then raid their nests.
The familiar, raspy screeches of Cascadia!
These jays will never stop being one of the most beautiful birds I've yet to see. Some day we will meet. 😁
I thought you were in Sechelt, BC!
... though the "ranch" doesn't make much sense there.
