From all the thousand of terrible, nasty, and vile things cops do everyday, including illegal and inhumane things, I can count all the times they've been held accountable on one hand.

It should disgust everyone that they're not facing consequences but it shouldn't be a surprise either.

Note that slacking off and watching porn is nowhere close to being on that list

No, but if they get away with all the other horrible things why wouldn't they get away with something as low level of this?

If all cops spent their day watching porn we would be better off

in a corrupt organization its easy to find out the dirty secrets that force them to keep you around. once you know you cant be fired and you dont believe in the team, its doubly easy to fuck off. of course eventually people get unlucky.

“What’s the purpose of the security check if you’re not actually taking any action?”

To be plausible deniability for a system that sees inmate suicide as a feature, not a bug.

Yep. Prisoners and homeless people are there to remind you what happens if you stop making money for the boss man. Plenty of horrible, exhausting, unsafe jobs get away with paying dogshit wages because it's either that or being thrown into the maelstrom of human misery that is being incarcerated / unhoused. How many people would die of heat exhaustion in an Amazon warehouse if they knew their basic needs would still be met if they quit?
