sh.itjust.works seems very solid
Fedigrow
To discuss how to grow and manage communities / magazines on Lemmy, Mbin, Piefed and Sublinks
It is indeed very solid, but my reasoning was more to highlight mander.xyz, which is science-focused.
They do a great work, and maybe having a "popular" community might help them (although that might already be happening with their science memes community)
Yea I requested the current community to keep an eye on it since the mod was not active. I haven't had a chance to properly promote it yet.
Mander.xyz is a solid instance and I think this community would do well there. It would fit in nicely with the other communities on there, and it might get more posts as a result
Ultimately I'm happy with wherever people would like to go with that community :)
Thank you for your comment!
I mean, lemm.ee is a very solid instance that also isnt overprone to defederating from everyone, if we're going by that.
Been here almost a year with no concerns.
I'd suggest creating a new community somewhere that isn't lemmy.ml because of their moderation and lemmy.world because it's just too big and we shoukd spread out the communities a bit. But depending on how established is the community on LW then it would be better to stick to it.

It's not really active, so no need to stick with it. We can probably just post an announcement to it once the new community is created.
Because I'm barely awake at this point it seems I just repeated your post. Lol
No worries ha ha
Then go with the new community route. o7
+1 for mander.xyz. I'd also like to take this opportunity to see if @[email protected] would be interesting in joining me on https://fediverser.network, as it is one of the most interesting topic-based instances. It would be a great home to all the science-related subreddits and moderators that would be interested in migrating.
Yes, sorry, I remember looking at it in the past but got distracted. Is there somewhere where I can find information about what to do to join you and contribute? Should I create a reddit account?
The GitHub page would be the initial place to get started. It works as a separate service that needs to run alongside your Lemmy docker stack. You will need a reddit API key to allow users to login/register via Reddit.
I just advise to wait a bit because the current release is still working based on Lemmy 0.18.3 database schema. I will update it later this week.
Ok! Thanks!
I suggest lemmy.zip
A moderately sized instance with great stability and performance, a very diligent and transparent admin, and fantastic federation with virtually everyone.
Yep, we are in regular touch with the Admins - they're solid.
Pinging @[email protected] too as he's a regular poster on [email protected].
For the post I was referencing about abuse moderation practices: https://jlai.lu/post/7449867
Can we have c/hmmm other than in LW?
That's what the general consensus is indeed
Update: mander.xyz has now solved their federation issues! https://grafana.lem.rocks/d/cdfzs0dwal3pca/federation-health-time-behind?orgId=1&var-instance=All&var-remote_instance=mander.xyz&var-remote_software=All&from=now-12h&to=now
@[email protected] and @[email protected], you seem to be the most regular posters of this type of content, what to you think about this idea of a new initiative on mander.xyz?
Pinging @[email protected] as well, and @[email protected]
I've been a huge fan of the science memes, I'll explore and chat more. I'm already curious about what natural sciences means.
Looks like an interesting instance. We could use the extra redundancy in the fediverse. I could always use more science in my life :)
Nice! Would you be interested in becoming a mod of the new community [email protected] too (to be created)? :)
I would love to help where I can, I’m always down for statistics <3
Great! Feel free to comment on [email protected], I'll appoint you as a mod!
There made a comment under the latest post.
You are now a mod, welcome onboard!
My opinion about this is that the fediverse seems a bit quiet recently, and maybe it would be better to stay on an instance and accept their default rather than creating a new one. But hey, fediverse also means decentralization, so it might be worth a shot, I'll try to post in both communities and see what happens.
Is there someplace where I could find more information about mander admins ? I don't want to have the same debate in 3 months because there is a problem with their moderation policy
Hello,
Thank you for your comment!
@[email protected] is a mod on [email protected], so we might even close it so that people will be encouraged to move to the new community.
About mander.xyz, they have been quite active lately to upgrade their instance (https://jlai.lu/post/7842647?scrollToComments=true).
I had a look at the modlog of their "flagship" community, [email protected], everything seems reasonable: https://mander.xyz/modlog/11072
Yes I'll see about pinning a message next time I'm on Desktop, to redirect anyone that is looking there.
Looking through the recent posts, the old community wasn't getting that many new posts already
Modlog is a limited way of knowing the admins values. I really hope one day we'll have cooperative owned servers, but in the meantime we can only speculate and hope the admins will behave reliably
Indeed, but it seems that nowadays people are comfortable calling out power tripping admins, so as nothing has been reported about mander.xyz, they seem fine
PS: The new community has 1.75k weekly active users after 3 days, so hopefully is will catch-up with the lemmy.ml 2.54k monthly active users soon.
I did the same migration a few months ago, from @lemmy ml to [email protected]. Frankly, I don't regret it; even being a smaller instance I've seen far more activity there, and I feel like the environment is safer to talk about certain topics. (The lemmy ml comm was a bit of a ticking bomb, really.)
Keep in mind that the focus of the dataisbeautiful comm might change a tiny bit, even if the rules stay the same. Older users already created an association between mander.xyz and science; I think that they'll be a bit less prone to post fluff, and more scientific data. That's actually good IMO.
Sorry I missed this, but, of course! I think that the dataisbeautiful community would be a good fit. I will try to deal with the federation issues as soon as possible.
Great, thank you!
Update: Mander are working on their federation issues (https://mander.xyz/post/14144123), so I would wait until they are done to create a community there
[email protected] exists but seems unmanaged and I would rather avoid another LW community.
Two.of the Mods are around and it might not be worth reinventing the wheel when folks can post there already.
I guess the question is: is it worth it to create another community to get that one off Lemmy.world, or are we happy with it being there?
As far as I'm aware the big issue with l.w is centralisation. So it makes sense to suggest people start new communities on other instances but if there is one already there, we might as well make use of it.
@[email protected], now that [email protected] is launched and pretty active (1.47k weekly active users), what do you think we should do with [email protected] ?
Should we suggest people to move to the new one, and lock the lemmy.ml one?
Nice!
