Projector instead of screen?

I was listening to reference tracks on my mixing setup the other day and I decided to get my monitor out of the way to see how it changed the sound.

For background, I have a semi-treated room with speakers in an equilateral triangle to my listening position (or pretty close) and I’ve spent plenty of time optimizing the sound and placement with REW measurements and experimentation. Planning on buying more treatment when I can afford it.

But when I got rid of the screen I suddenly felt like I had some low mid information that had been lacking for me previously. Imaging seemed to slightly improve as well.

It ocurred to me that perhaps I could project my display onto the wall between the speakers and optimize my imaging and frequency response by removing the screen. Obviously I’d still have desk reflections and stuff to worry about, but…hey, its a work in progress.

Has anyone here tried projecting to get their display out of the path of the speakers, and do you feel the results were worth it? What kind of projector did you use? Im worried the operating noise from such a machine could be more trouble than its worth.
