Can only get you halfway there with Awful Games Done Quick

Edit: play at half speed to get the other condition met.

Hey, cool. I've never actually watched one live, thank you. I think I know what my around-the-house background video is gonna be for a few days.

I'm glad they're back to in person events, their online stuff didn't kept my interest over the past couple of years.

Looking forward to this event

The only thing that was fun to see were mostly the vr stuff for me. You normally don't see that during a in person event.

But yeah, in person is way better. I can't wait for it to start!

and the rhythm games, I really enjoyed the Pump it Up and In The Groove showcases

I agree. It never really felt like there was anything to differentiate the agdq and sgdq events from their daily shows while everything was remote. It just never felt the same without everyone playing on the couch.

I liked the online events because it was easier for them to get runners from around the world to participate. Also, I think the rhythm game showcases would have never happened without the online-only GDQs.

They do online programming all week these days, and there's something special about the in-perwon energy.

I haven't forgiven them for banning Bonesaw577 after his legendary Jak and Daxter run at SGDQ2016.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Why'd they ban him? Just watched the end and it sounds like they all expected to be banned.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 year ago

It's not super clear, but probably for ignoring directions from the organizers who tried to get him to stop impersonating Owen Wilson (for some reason) and stop telling people to tweet @AirCanada.

I think the ban has run out and he can submit runs again by now, but these are the kind of petty grudges I like to hold!

I remember that run, that was really fun.

They've been pretty corporate since around 2016 but I feel like they stopped being so strict lately. The past few years have been fun, no major drama IIRC and they've gotten more chill in general.

I remember the crowd made a walauigi dying sound and a narrator said something about jumping in front of a bus. I started watching GDQ in 2015.

Sone of those people beat games I never got around to beating.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I haven't watched one of these in years now.

Which runs/races are y'all looking forward to?

There is a literal DOG doing a speedrun of Gyromite on Tuesday

https://youtu.be/IvShUE5zIXE?si=uWRhqoiiCXvIu14g

Also any Doom game is always worth watching! Also Donkey Kong or Sonic games

And the awful games block is always hilarious, I think starting Wednesday night / Thursday morning with Beetlejuice, and running all the way to Skator Gator 3D, I know Virtual Hydlide is a funny one in there, and Skull Island: Rise of Kong is one of the newest games ever featured in an awful games block

The schedule is a bit easier to read and Ctrl+f here: https://horaro.org/agdq/2024

Tunic, The Typing of the Dead, Pitfall, Worms Reloaded, Cassette Beasts, Legend of Zelda, TMNT Aracde, Bluey, SMB2 USA, TASBot, Shovel Knight Treasure Trove, Kirby, Castlevania 3, Celeste, Super Mario Maker 2, SMB Wonder, Mario Kart 64, SMB Lost Levels, Lies of P, BG3.

And I plan on waking up early for tbcr's Fort BOyard: The Challenge. Former coworker of mine and just enjoy his runs and the silliness it brings. Yourself?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Worms speedruns in the past have been really cool, definitely looking forward to that. And Mario 2 is always amazing.
