News and Discussions about Reddit

Welcome to !reddit. This is a community for all news and discussions about Reddit.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules

Rule 1- No brigading.

**You may not encourage brigading any communities or subreddits in any way. **

YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.

Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.

**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.

If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

:::spoiler Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here.

MODERATORS

I was just browsing a thread on c/nfl looking for new mods. There were multiple 12+ year Redditors there offering to help.

Got me wondering. There are 14,000 of us in this community. How many of us are ten year plus users who have just had enough?

Edit: I didn't expect this post to be as poignant as it became. There are so many of you... I can't reply to everyone. I'm an 11 year user and have modded something like 150 subs over the years. I'm really sad too, but I'm finding that lemmy has most of the content I'm looking for, just needs more comments.

The API was a big blow, but removing awards on past posts and deleting coin balances is really dumb.

Not quite 10, but something around that. Popped up on place to contribute pixels to the guillotine and such, but haven't been back.
Use RSS to keep up with nosleep which is the only thing I really enjoyed very much.

Kbin/fedi really wasn't that hard to adjust to, in the end.

I was close, 9 years.

I was on for over a decade and they did a great job driving me away.

12 years here

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

11 years here I think.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

9 years counts right? I havent left-left but I spend most of my time here now.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

about 12 years I think for me

All in all nearly 10 year though my last account is 7+ years old and this was the time I actually used the site and didn't just lurk. My last account isn't deleted, I just don't use it anymore. Lemmy at first seemed more complicated, but I stayed for the communication culture and the fediverse concept . I'd love to see lemmy grow to a reddit successor but I doubt it will get this big. Then again I wonder if this isn't for the positive. Also it is really refreshing not to be suffocated under rage- and clickbait by some malicious algorithm.

I was a reddit user for around 7 years, deleted my account once 1 year ago (due to becoming privacy conscious) and tried to minimize my use of it, with occasional relapses.

I was mostly using reddit via libreddit frontend as I would mostly lurk and rarely comment, and because of the loading speed of the website (no need to load and run tons of javascript code every time), but since the API changes I can probably only look at 1 subreddit and around 3 posts before reaching the rate limit. Needless to say, this killed my main way to interact with the platform and seeing that lemmy got a lot more people now, I made an account here yesterday.

13+ years on Reddit, never very active though... still modding some smaller communities.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

11+ years here. Deleted and haven't looked back. I miss my crafting and witchy communities but I don't regret leaving.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

11 years haven't been back since boost died

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Yep. Turns out I don’t miss it.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Hola! 1 10 year account, 3 accounts at 3+ years.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Account just over 10 years, lurker for even longer. Don't really use it anymore except when following links etc

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I deleted sync off my phone, I still check on desktop but my usage has gone down 90% easily. Same with Twitter.

The alternatives are great, but they are still young and don't have the userbase in the niche subs I frequent.

Fuck spez

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Yep, a few days after the protests petered out. Nuked my account there. Life's been better since.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I think I was on the site for just about ten years. Haven't touched it since june.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

10-ish years here. I haven't used it on my phone since the cut, but I sadly can't really quit it completely, since a lot of communities haven't migrated and I have to use them for my hobbies. Most of their discords are sadly very dead or full with memes and no real discussion. When (or if sadly) they all convert, I can quit Reddit completely. Until then, I try to use it as little as possible.

12 years. Shredded it when bacronreader stopped.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I was a long term user until and left because of the third party apps removal.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I left it for content outside of two are communities that are only at reddit: r/Summonerschool and r/CompetitiveTFT. (they are also at discord, but I dont like "chat" style)

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

It would have been 13 years this year, but the API changes killed Boost and after also killing Reddit Gifts for failing to turn a profit when it started as a community thing, plus the new redesign to make it look more like the Facebook feed, plus having to rely on automoderator codes instead of having properly integrated mod tools, plus the fact that they keep rolling out Place again instead of coming up with more original ideas like The Button, plus allowing the_donald and creepshots to exist for so long...

...yeah.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

11 and I don't miss it anymore

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Sounding off. 15 years. Deleted that thing. Haven't looked back besides checking an occasional subreddit that decided to stay there.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

13 years for me. Deleted my account July 1.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Over 10 here for me. I came with the great Digg migration.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

10 yo for me

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

My Reddit account was 2013 so just about 10 years this month when I left.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

9y7m with 200k+ karma. I had used Reddit to look at porn for few years before that but finally made an account to ask some tech support question...

I got perma banned not quite a month ago, it was a pretty shitting thing I did so probably deserved it. Definitely helped me in jumping ship.
