Hi Everyone!

We're now running the latest lemmy 0.19 release, you can see more details here: https://lemmy.ca/post/11378137

Note that you will need to re-enable 2FA on your account, all users had it turned off as part of this

You will most likely need to log out and back in for your client to work properly.

Not the hero we deserved, but the hero we needed

[–] [email protected] 20 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Aww yeah we can block instances now

[–] [email protected] 11 points 11 months ago (4 children)

This is the thing I'm happiest to see and I hope it helps Lemmy grow more. Being able to block the NSFW/porn instances is such a quality-of-life improvement. I've got nothing against porn, but it's a bad look if anyone can see your screen and every third post is nudity (even if it's blurred).

Same, I still want to see some non-pr0n NFSW stuff so that really helps.

Thank you for hosting us!

Note that Jerboa 0.50 which is still the latest in the Play Store is broken with Lemmy 0.19. The newly released 0.53 should work but it's not on the stores yet.

Suggestion:

Check that the compatible Jerboa version is on the Play Store before upgrading Lemmy. That way non-technical users like my wife won't see breakage. Or alternatively upgrade several days after the official Lemmy release.

Yeah, lesson learned :/

I'll compile a list of apps and see how we can track which one are ready for any API breaking changes before we do the server update.

Is there any way to turn off the gold highlight on new comments? It makes things harder to read, and it's also quite ugly.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 11 months ago

Yea I've noticed that too, I have been refreshing the page to get rid of them

Thank you for the upgrade. Lots of new features and truly needed features are in this release: https://join-lemmy.org/news/2023-12-15_-_Lemmy_Release_v0.19.0_-_Instance_blocking,_Scaled_sort,_and_Federation_Queue

And thank God, I can now block instances that are a nuisance.

old.lemmy.ca is having issues with the update as well. voting doesn't seem to always work, and I couldn't post from it. Not a huge deal, there's always the normal mode.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 11 months ago

Yeah might take a bit for those apps to be patched

[–] [email protected] 4 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I left old.lemmy.ca to upvote you.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 11 months ago

You can go back to it now, it's been updated :)

Seems to be so far, thanks!

[–] [email protected] 3 points 11 months ago

Thanks, also added a mention in the sidebar, and I'll update the banner on the frontpage when something changes.

I got Jerboa 0.0.54 via the Play Store. F-Droid seems to still be on 0.0.52.

Update

The Subscribed view consistently fails to load additional posts. When I tried to add a screenshot to this post it gave me an "incorrect_login" toast. Adding text seems fine. 🤔

Adding a pic via the web app works fine:

Update 2

It seems like they were both fixed today:

They haven't been released yet.

Update 3

And now w patiently await 0.0.55 to reach the stores.

Update 4

Aaand released:

Uploading images works. So does the Subscribed view.

It looks like this concludes the saga of the 0.19 release and Jerboa. 😅

Auto expand media is awesome! Shitpost scrolling on the desktop just got elevated.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 11 months ago

I am really liking Scales, Auto Expand Media, and Open in new Tab. Very nice QoL improvements.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 11 months ago (1 children)

The highlight on new comments is ugly as sin. Do not want.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 11 months ago (1 children)

It's absolutely atrocious, and it reduces the contrast, making things harder to read.

Thanks!

Voyager on Android completely lost my login credentials on update, which is weird. I had to re-add my account. Working fine now though! :)

[–] [email protected] 5 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Looks like this update may have broken access on Eternity for android.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 11 months ago (1 children)

0.19 changes the login process so apps need to update. Most have from what I've heard. You'll also need to log out and log back in on any apps after the update.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 11 months ago

That fixed it, thanks!

[–] [email protected] 5 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (1 children)

Cool!

However, I notice upvote/downvote and community block actions appear to break when using old.lemmy.ca on desktop (guess whomever maintains that theme has work to do.. just noting here).

EDIT: Whoops, my bad for not reading further down, others have reported. Thanks.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

mlmym (old.lemmy.ca) has been updated, should be fixed now.

Clearing app data and updating to Jerboa v.54 fixed my problems logging into lemmy.ca. Glad to see the new features. I can finally put lemmynsfw.com to rest from my feed.

That was fast, I'm glad the update (appears to have) went smoothly. Thanks for keeping things running for us.

Edit: Damn, those usage statistics look way different when tracked in the reddit fashion. I guess that stands to reason, 90% lurkers (other than up/downvoting) is pretty standard.

It’s causing problems with Memmy on iOS, with spurious errors. Even though Memmy’s store page says the fix a month ago was in preparation for this new release. I logged out and re authenticated and it seems to be ok.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 11 months ago

Thanks for the info, hopefully that helps other Memmy users out there <3

[–] [email protected] 4 points 11 months ago (3 children)

Voyager seems to be OK after upgrade, Eternity however spits 404 errors on upvotes etc

Thank you!

and updates on if we'll be able to donate to lemmy.ca in the near future? I know non-profit status was a goal before
