A community dedicated to helping people identify birds

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules:

  1. Bird identification only. No memes, jokes, or awesome bird photos (that you know the species of). There are other communities out there for that. Please mark posts about the community with META

  2. Any sign of birds are allowed, this includes but is not limited to: photos, blurry photos, feathers, eggs, audio, Ms Paint drawings, verbal descriptions, etc.

  3. Mark dead or seriously injured birds as NSFW

  4. Please try to provide any information you possibly have. Rough Location, terrain, time of year, and time of day can all be helpful. But please don't dox yourself, within 30 miles is usually just fine, no need for gps coordinates.

Hey, can someone please help me identify this bird? Saw it in Yerevan, Armenia today. Google says it's a desert sparrow, but according to Wiki they don't live in Armenia. Halp!

I'm not a birder so I'm talking out my ass...but is Armenia on its migration path maybe?

According to this, they are not migrating... Weird. Maybe the little guy got lost? Bad GPS or something? :)

Haha maybe!! I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to birds

The shape of the beak actually looks like the finch family. I looked through common birds of Armenia in Merlin, and Pale Rockfinch seems like a possible choice.

Hope there are experienced birders from your area who can answer this confidently
