I assume that their plan was not for her to get shot and die and as her last dying breath, tell him to remove the stones from her stomach. I watched this movie for the first time with my wife right when it came out. She wasn't a huge movie person, she was mostly watching it because it was my night to pick what was on the tv. We both kind of liked it, and I remember the ending being really emotional and we talked for a while about what it meant and then I never really thought about it again. Fast forward, my wife passed away last July, sparing details I've been a fucking wreck since then, but last weekend my best friend came to visit and said this movie was on his list and I said I'd watch it again if he was into it. By the end we were both crying laughing and especially at the end he said "this is like if I Think You Should Leave made a movie length sketch" and we were fucking hysterical. Completely changed my thoughts on the movie and made me think really hard about the context you see things in. TLDR: If you're hurting and need a reminder of how fuckin important and cool friendship is, Swiss Army Man fuckin rules.

I am fascinated with this concept

Normally horror movies have cops/boyfriends/landlords/parents/whoever that just go "nah toots you're crazy get outta here" before they all get murdered

But sometimes they don't immediately dismiss everything, or they are shown the supernatural shit pretty early in the movie and then join the protagonist

And I don't mean like a group of friends who are all afflicted figuring stuff out, I am talking about like the cliche dismissive role that falls onto a parent of a child, or a boyfriend of the final girl, or usually, the cops who show up

I am sure there is a name for this trope, but I am curious about the opposite, where the traditionally dismissive character actually believes the main characters without immediately dying 2 seconds later

Insidious does this, where the husband is initially skeptical but wants to support his wife, and eventually believes the supernatural things going on

The Outsider (TV Show) has the detective follow along with the supernatural plot, also initially skeptical, but continues to help

It Follows is also pretty similar, where the group of friends don't immediately just dismiss their friends "curse" and walk away

I find this type of perspective so much more refreshing because it adds a logical character into the mix, who may not be experiencing the supernatural events themselves, but still try to help

I want to see movies where the child says "mommy there is a monster in my closet" and mommy gets a fucking gun to investigate and stays paranoid instead of going "it's just a bad dream sweetie"

I was rewatching Precious after it had been a while since I saw it when it first came out, and her mother; Mary is one of the first that comes to my mind when I think about characters that committed actions where they should be in jail and we never see them get brought into police custody (on-screen or at least a mention of it)!

Especially following the scene where Precious runs away from home after she finally stood up to her mom, and Mary practically almost kills her and her newborn baby by dropping her TV on them. Their neighbour across the hall even witnessed the whole thing for crying out loud!!

When Quentin Tarantino was on Joe Rogan a while back, he mentioned that some of the movies that were copying or were heavily inspired by Pulp Fiction ended up just making Pulp Fiction look better because they were never as good as Pulp Fiction.

I'm curious what movies people think he was referring to, it seemed like he was referring to movies that came out in the 5-10 years after Pulp Fiction. I don't think he was necessarily saying they were bad movies, just that they made Pulp Fiction seem like a better film. The only one's I've seen that felt similar were Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, but I haven't seen too many films from the 90's.
