I happened upon this gem that I’ve heard little to nothing about and I’m genuinely curious if there are any recommendations with the same kind of feel/vibe this one gives off.

I absolutely love the unseen type of horror. This movie really gave me a hefty dose of anxiety and it was thrilling! I need more.

Bonus points for lesser known or underrated movies! Please and thank you for the help in advance.

Which is the horror movie that still somehow haunts you ? I’ve seen a lot of horror movies in my life but sadly lately only a few really made me e feel a sense of despair and fear.

The only movies that disturb me still today are Shining, The Grudge and Kairo (Pulse).

Kairo is probably the eeriest horror movie I’ve ever seen in my life, Japanese just know how to do psychological horror better than anyone. That scene in the movie (and who has seen it knows what I’m talking about) is something that still haunts me.

I think that psychological horror is just much more scary than splatter or pure gore horror, they are a part of the genere yes, but they lack being soul crushing and making you feel deeply disturbed. As much as I love a classic horror movie like Halloween, I watch it more for the entertainment factor than the fear one.

And you, which movie do you think is the most eerie you have seen ? And do you have any suggestion about horror psychological movies like Kairo ?

I don’t know if it’s a horror movie, a sci-fi movie, both, idk. I find myself very scared watching it, mostly because of Frank and Jake Glyenhaals performance, but if I explain the movie, its got the plot of a sci fi movie, so I’m confused. What do you guys think?

Things like Whalefall, 127 Hours, 47 Metres Down, etc. No monster as such but the environment/situation is the threat in itself. Or are those classed more as thrillers? Either way, I'd be very happy to receive recs.

Pluto TV has been stepping up their game on free horror lately. They are not S tier like Tubi but Pluto TV is a strong A. I just binged the Urban Legend movie series for free.

Last year my wife and kids went to a summer sleepaway camp for 6 nights. It was the first time since being married and a parent that I had that much time alone at the house. I decided it would be fun to create a list of horror movies to watch - 1 per night with a fun cocktail.

They are going to the camp again this year, but this time for 14 nights. Below are my tentative plans. What do you think? Any recommendations for substitutions, additions, or subtractions?

2024 potential list (14 nights)

  • Immaculate

  • Late night with the devil

  • In violent nature

  • A cure for wellness

  • The Lighthouse

  • Pandorum

  • Sunshine

  • Martyrs

  • Crimes of the future

  • Midsommar

  • Sisu

  • Hellbender

  • Crimson Peak

  • Infinity pool

  • X

2023 watched (6 nights)

  • Barbarian

  • Bone Tomahawk

  • Terrifier 2

  • Mandy

  • It Follows

  • The Witch

To me it’s definitely George A. Romero’s Dawn of the Dead from 1978. It was a huge upgrade from the original Night of the Living Dead, with added color and more extreme gore. Only problem I have is that a lot of the zombies looked blue.

I loved both movies and cannot wait to watch the other 2. But can we just say Tony Todd was made for horror movies. Candyman, Final Destination etc. and seeing him now in the Hatchet movies, his acting is just brilliant when it comes to horror movies.

a classic horror fan knows that korea is probably in the top 5 countries that takes the cake by far in horror production.

i have one more on netflix, parasyte. it isn’t a movie but it might as well be one considering how fast paced it is and how quickly i finished it. the description on netflix reads horror, which it is, but it’s also a thriller and action at the same time.

amazing plot, even better acting, the characters are peak and the CGI is crazy. about the goriest thing i’ve seen in a while.

i like to say that this series goes above and beyond when it comes to passing the bechdel test.

Our main protagonist is a woman so is our main "villain" and guess what.. their characters aren't centered around romance or romantic relationships with men. we have badass shotgun welding female characters who are strong in ways that absolutely do not cater to the male gaze/fantasy (if you know you know, especially my female horror fans)

all characters (even side ones) have so much depth and you can’t get but help emotionally attached which makes the ride even rockier.

you’ll laugh a lot, (korea is notorious for inappropriately humorous characters in horror), you’ll cry, you’ll probably gag, you’ll get extremely angry.. the whole shmuck.

as you’re watching if you think you know what’s going to happen next, scratch that you’re probably wrong

9.8/10 watch. i’m very confident you’ll enjoy it too!

Really enjoyed both. Tubi almost always has movies I want to watch eventually if I’m patient. Rec both of those to anyone who hasn’t seen them yet. And they are free watches. Planning on catching Willy’s Wonderland today. Also on Tubi.

A rookie reporter and her companions head to Poland to investigate the case of a missing teen. What follows is a fight for survival after an encounter with a really creepy statue and a group of cultists.

Since it's release back in 2010, The Shrine remains one of my favourite supernatural films from recent memory. Its creepy and offers an unexpected and thrilling climax to rival most films of its kind.

I highly recommend it for those who haven't seen it. For those who have please share your thoughts 🙏🏻 would love to hear what you thought of it, whether it's good or bad.

so I'm poking around the free movies on Prime, not expecting much because, well, free movies on Prime. the synopsis on Radius sounds interesting, so I give it a go. turns out to be this mystery/sci-fi horror-adjacent story where we the audience are right with the POV of the main character who is suffering amnesia, oh and everyone who comes within 50 feet of him dies. yeah, that's in the synopsis. the movie does a nice job of building tension, and the editing in the flashbacks is solid and effective, the direction is good, and I'm sucked in. to talk about the plot any more would spoil it, so let's just say it gathers momentum. there's a few great payoff scenes on the premise that, while I was watching, I was like, "I hope they do this" and then they did that. very satisfying. and slowly but surely, it got more and more bonkers. that's about all I can say, really. also, what is it about Canadian movies (when it was over, I found out it was Canadian, and I was like, but of course it was). they seem to embrace this stark nihilism that's not in most Hollywood films, which always seem to have an "out," some hero or heroine to come along to at least give us hope. films like this one, also other Canadian movies like the Ginger Snaps films and Beyond the Black Rainbow, hope feels gone, and it feels like anything positive is just temporary, and we must surrender to fate. sounds weird, but i'm a fan of this approach. if anyone can suggest more Canadian films like this, or even some essays about Canadian cinema that touch upon this, that would be appreciated.

Mine was poltergeist and I was 5. It gave me an incredible fear of braces (although I think it was a retainer, not braces, but I was only 5 🤷‍♀️) and i was terrified of vomiting for like 15 years.

I saw I Know What You Did Last Summer when I was 10, and fell in love with it. For the last 25 years, whenever I carry a bottle of soda, I hold it so the cap is between my middle and ring fingers and carry it like it’s the fisherman’s hook. I’ve never seen anyone else do this, and it’s definitely a me thing. Anyone else got a weird, unique quirk like that?

And I don’t mean refusing to drive near log trucks because of Final Destination 2. We all do that.

This question popped up into my head while watching Green Room, specifically when they halfway cut off (?) Pat’s hand and it’s flopping off of the bone.

Another favorite is the entirety of Evil Dead (2013) + The Things effects.

I always love watching movies with realistic effects so lmk your favorites!

I don’t think I’ve ever felt so annoyed at the ending of a movie before. I’m perplexed. You get nothing. Absolute zero payoff or explanation. What the heck. I’m confused who thought that would be a good ending. There were about 10 plot lines and red herrings that just went nowhere.

It’s rare for me to feel this unsatisfied. So congrats on that I guess 🤣

I recently watched It Follows and I think that one is probably the best. Having something following you and not knowing what it looks like since it changes form every time.

Another one really cool was the Demon in From the Dark(2009), it turns every door into a portal and kill the closest person to the door.

I want a horror flick (or as many as y'all can think of) that feature an honest-to-God spooky skeleton.

I can only think of two -- House on Haunted Hill (which I almost don't want to coubt because it's so brief and is just a puppet being controlled by Vincent Price) and Nightmare on Elm Street 3. Ideally, I want one where the skeleton is more of the main focus, and that plays it totally straight, but of course I'll take what I can get.

I don’t know how to feel about the film, it wasn’t bad and it was pretty fucked up but I’m not sure if I liked it. The damn pig did get annoying and I felt kinda bad for the calf.

The bar scene pretty much confirmed that everyone was mentally fucked, the piano playing was actually good in a this-shouldn’t-work-but-it-does way, that’s pretty much all I gotta say about it

Not sure if I'm using the term correctly the wife and I just got done watching Grave Encounters, The Deep House, and As Above, So Below. We're obsessed with movies where the characters are trapped and reality is bending all around them

As a added bonus, we just watched Hell House LLC and that was phenomenal but not really reality warping

I am a sucker for 80s horror and especially zombies. Everyone going outside today to watch the eclipse had me thinking about the same premise in night of the comet. I have always loved this movie since I was a kid and saw my grandpa watching it.

For anyone who doesn’t know, during the comet watch parties everyone turns to dust, some people get infected and those who were indoors are “survivors”.

It’s free on Tubi in case anyone is wondering 😁

Sooo..... I know my wife and I were a little behind but we watched "The Wailing (2016)" for the first time last night....WOW.

I found that movie amazing, even though it approached 2 hours and 45 minutes I was never bored. I found the acting great and effects the same.

I don't want to leave spoilers and still have no idea how to "black out" text, so I'll leave it there.

I would recommend.
