Reddit League is back for its eigth season and the sign-up begins right now!

For those of you who have never heard of Reddit League before, it is a 1v1 competition where players face off against each other directly over the course of 13 weeks and multiple divisions on a variety of maps to crown an eventual winner.

Here are the rules for Season 8 (subject to slight changes over the course of preseason. If i promised to include a certain rule this season but forgot about it, please let me know)

Changes to previous seasons in red. Please read through them carefully.

How do established players re-sign up?

Just as in previous season, please leave a comment below this post, or send me a private message on Reddit or Discord (calamityx7) that you're in again. I will tag everyone who is eligible to re-sign up from last season below this post. You will not be tagged if you have taken part in a previous season but not last season, however you also fall under this category. The sign-up period for these players ends on the 24th of October 17:00 CEST.

Reddit League NXT players and players relegated from D5:

You will also be tagged and can sign up by simply telling me you're in again. You can choose not to play pre-season and continue in NXT straight away. If you wish to do that, please specify, otherwise, I will enter you into pre-season by default.

How do newcomers sign up?

Newcomers are able to sign-up by leaving a comment below this post with their Geoguessr Name, their home country and a link to their GG-profile. Please be aware, that only sign-ups from players that have played at least 250 regular games with an account age of at least 6 months can be accepted. The deadline for the sign-up is on Monday, 9th of October 17:00 CEST.

An important note to all newcomers who want to sign-up: Please be aware that participating in the Reddit League can be very time consuming. Season 8 will approximately be lasting at least until the end of February and there will be one leg per week. Many participants invest a lot of time and effort in practicing and mid-season quitters are a thorn in the side for everyone. So please only sign up if you are very sure that you'll be able to stick to this weekly schedule and keep your long-term motivation up high.

Last Challenge:

R1: State outline of South Dakota. We had siblings of SD-1804 in previous challenges (ND-1806 and SD-1806). SD-1804 runs in several chunks along the Missouri River. It continues as ND-1804 in North Dakota. ND-1806 and SD-1806 run on the other side of the river. The road numbers are references to the "Lewis and Clark Expedition" that took place between 1804 and 1806. 11 perfect scores. :-)

R2: Oregon. We had a distance sign to Mt. Hood and a shop sign that said "Mt. Hood Country Store". "Mt. Hood National Forest" shows up at a decent zoom level when you zoom into the map. Mt. Hood and the town with the same name show up when you zoom one level further into the map. 13 perfect scores. :-)

R3: State outline of Florida. We were on US 98 along the ocean routhly in east/west direction. We were at the coast of the Florida Panhandle. Probably, this was already enough information to find the intersection. Florida uses the same numbering system as the US highways (odd numbered highways are running north to south with increasing numbers from east to west). This might also have helped to find the location. 16 perfect scores. :-)

R4: Rhode Island. It's a small state and most state highways are easy to find on the map. 16 perfect scores. :-)

R5: Minnesota. We had not just one but two Canadian flags in this round. ;-) This suggested that we were close to the Canadian border. The name of the town was visible on the Liquor store behind us. 14 perfect scores. :-)

I've made a map of mostly "places to see" in Japan, just under 6000 locations at present.

Here is the map link:

No photospheres, but there will be some trekkers. I have generally ensured that fair clues were reachable within a reasonable time, but there are exceptions especially for locations chosen mostly for their scenic interest. The overall difficulty shouldn't be too high though -- a seasoned Japan map player should instantly recognize at least half of the locations.

The idea behind the map was to give a reasonably diverse "sightseeing" view of the country. There will appear lots of shrines and temples, museums, historic sites, and notable structures like train stations, airports, bridges. Every island with Streetview coverage is represented with at least one location. I have tried to make locations as pinpointable as possible, and also included one Hawaii location to increase the toleranace for mislocated pins. Links below:

Welcome to Week 0 of the 2023 college football season! While NAIA and JUCO schools kicked off their season on Thursday, today is Day 1 for the NCAA. The first game of the day will kick off across the pond in Dublin, Ireland, as Navy will take on Notre Dame.
