I found my first geocache by accident - at the library in a hollowed out book with a library catalogue number starting with GEO. I was in the outdoors section and noticed this particular book had no business being there (it was Harry Potter), so when I took it out I saw there was an "official geocache, do not remove" tag taped to the front. Fun!! I signed the log and made a small trade. This has prompted my son and I to begin our geocaching hobby, and yesterday I downloaded the Geocaching App (green emblem/white squares). But when I went to look up the cache found at the library, it wasn't on the map! This made me think there must be multiple geocaching apps. What other explanation could there be? I was the first to sign the log, so maybe it was new? If that's so, how do i tag a found geocache without being the one who planted it? And if there are multiple apps, I would like to know about the major ones, please. Thanks for any help. My son and I are excited to find more.

In my city, there's one player who has hidden like 60+ mystery caches in the inner city, and they're all 161 meters away from each other. I'm 82% certain they used a ruler to hide their caches, haha. Other cachers have also expressed frustration because it's pretty much 60+ of the same cache. You read a thing, answer a question, and pick up a Petling from the nearest sign. There's no variation.

The biggest frustration is that no one else can hide anything, and we also don't know where the end caches are because they're mysteries xD

Does anyone have experience with players hogging entire cities?

I know we can hide individual caches from our searches, but is there a way to completely hide all caches by a certain user? There’s a prolific puzzle cacher in my area; unfortunately, for whatever reason, he hasn’t visited the site in 4 years and most of his puzzles are about 13 years old with broken jpg links, outdated trivia, etc. Is there a way to completely hide him or do I just have to do it one by one as they pop up?

Hey geocachers!

I've always loved adventure games, but it wasn't until I tried geocaching that my passion truly came to life. The thrill of the hunt, the sense of community have been an incredible journey. Geocaching has become a central part of my life, and I'm constantly amazed by the adventures and connections it brings. To all the veterans, keep sharing your stories, and to the newbies, trust me, the thrill of the hunt is waiting for you!

Happy caching!

I went out for a maintenance walk along a 14 cache trail I set out last summer as a few were getting some DNFs. My tally for the day:

  • 10 caches were fine.
  • 1 cache was waterlogged (not sure why as there are 3 others of this type and the rest were fine).
  • 3 were missing of which I had the right container type to replace 1.
  • I found a container close to one of my caches which had been lost and archived in 2010
  • I found a container that has been missing (and archived) for 6 months out in the open, less than a metre from its original place. A location I've searched dozens of times!

Now I need to find the original owner of 1 container and think of somewhere new for my container!

I know I'm preaching to the choir, but come on noobs and muggles, I didn't spend a couple days 3d printing and painting a fake rock or pine cone just so you can have a new hide a key. I make them public to encourage new folks to play. I suffer the fools taking them. Too many cool caches disappeared over the years. I don't believe in store bought tubes or micros that aren't a surprise to find, I want folks to enjoy the discovery. Rant over. Happy Fools day.

I am completely overthinking this as i am just a teenager, but im worried that when i retire like 50 years from now, geocaching wont be around. i know geocaching has been around for about 25 years ago but still, i have this nagging worry that i wont be able to enjoy my retirement geocaching. i sounds dumb i know, but my retirment dream is to spend hours in a garage or woodworking shop making creative geocaching birdhouses and placing them in my community. attending events with my furture wife and meeting other cachers. sounds kind of dumb typing it all out but still, i love geocaching and im hoping to continue doing it.
