On November 7th, 2016, a subreddit called /r/pizzagate was created. For those who don't know, pizzagate was a conspiracy theory that accused Hillary Clinton and John Podesta (Clinton's campaign chairman) of being involved in a pedophile ring operating out of a pizzeria called Comet Ping Pong. This conspiracy theory has no evidence really.

Within days the subreddit became the #1 fastest-growing non-default sub of the day, with over 20K subscribers by November 21st. The subreddit's lifespan was cut short, however, when reddit admins banned the community on the 24th out of fear of witch hunting. /r/The_Donald users became enraged, and immediately began berating Reddit CEO /u/spez, calling him a pedophile. Later that same day, this mod thread was posted. In short, /r/The_Donald mods accused the admins of editing user comments that were critical of /u/spez.

Shortly after, the unexpected happened. /u/spez himself openly admitted to editing their insulting comments by replacing his user tag with T_D mods.

The comment was downvoted into oblivion instantly, with over 11K downvotes and 71 gildings. It currently stands as the most downvoted-and-gilded comment of all time, surpassing /u/kn0thing's famous "popcorn tastes good" comment. After many replies, /u/spez defended himself, claiming he was "trolling the trolls for a bit." The drama spread throughout reddit and sparked a huge controversy. The event was officially called "Spezgiving" by SRD users /u/InOranAsElsewhere and /u/Baltimorecity. /r/circlejerk exploded with posts about the event. Important questions were raised: have the admins edited other users' posts comments on Reddit? The comment also prompted users to question the validity of the site's content. Many users agreed that spez should resign, while others defended him, saying the T_D users deserved it and had it coming.

Later that day, logs of a private chatroom for default moderators were leaked in retaliation. Although apologetic, the mod in question was showered with praise from users, and his attitude slowly changed to justified, and he ended up posting an AMA in /r/the_donald.

Due to the leaks, doxxing began to happen, targeting mods who were supportive of /u/spez and/or calling for /r/the_donald to be banned. A follow up thread arguing the opposite

A few days later, spez posted a formal apology to the users of Reddit for his actions. Additionally, he announced that you could now filter /r/all, which was a well-liked update by many.

In September of 2019, Keith Gill, AKA u/DeepFuckingValue (DFV) and "Roaring Kitty" from his YouTube Channel, invested roughly $53,000 into Gamestop common stock and far-dated long options, and made a post on r/wallstreetbets reporting his position; a common practice in the sub. Gamestop was a struggling business at the time, and most saw this "YOLO" investment as foolish, to say the least. He met criticism with light-hearted humor, curious disagreement, and due diligence (DD) about the company. DFV continued with regular updates on his position on Reddit and further analysis through his YouTube channel, often citing the abnormally high short-interest for a stock that, he argued, had deep fundamental value.

As time went on, some users posted that they would be joining him in investing in Gamestop; A company that, at this point, was labeled as a business doomed for bankruptcy by many mainstream news and financial outlets. In August of 2020, Ryan Cohen, a billionaire famous for his success with the business Chewy, bought 9 million shares (12.9% of the company), and later became chairman for the company. As a notoriously successful investor, Cohen's buy-in changed sentiments about the underlying value of the stock, and even more fellow investors began to join DFV in his risky play. With the scent of a short squeeze in the air, more from wallstreetbets and hedge funds alike began to buy GME stock and options in droves, further driving the price upward.

Despite DFV's already massive return on investment, he chose to exercise his options around $40 (acquiring more shares instead of taking the return in cash), doubling down on his position, strapping in his seat belt, and solidifying his reputation for "diamond hands". On January 27th, 2021 the price of Gamestop soared to a pre-market valuation of over $500, a *3000%* increase within two weeks. DFV's original investment was over $48 million at its highest point and had amassed 200,000 shares of the company - an unfathomable position for an individual investor. DFV further solidified his reputation for diamond hands by not selling a single share, despite price swings of $15 million in a single day.

The 'squeeze' was cut short, however, as multiple brokers (Robinhood catching the most heat) for restricting investors from purchasing stocks that threatened hedge funds that had sold the stock short, and were threatened with substantial financial loss, or even bankruptcy. The share price plummeted from the market manipulation, and the curtain had been opened for all eyes to see into the world of corruption that resides in the stock market. Months later, the SEC released a report on the Gamestop incident, reporting that it was not a short squeeze, and showed a short interest of 122% (more than all existing stock). Outrage and skepticism continued to increase in regards to Naked Shorting.

Following the so-called short squeeze, Keith Gill had a lawsuit filed against him alleging fraud and misleading investors. Gill became the target of the U.S. House Committee on Financial Services, and gave a testimony in regard to his role in the volatility of the Gamestop stock price, immortalizing the phrase "I like the stock." in his defense against accusations of market manipulation as a mere retail investor with a meager following on social media.

Following the events of the "sneeze" as many call the Gamestop Short-Squeeze, DFV found mass support across the internet, and anger rose from the masses in defense of an underdog being targeted by larger powers. Despite Keith Gill repeatedly declaring he had no intention of social change, to 'punish' short hedge funds, nor that he was a leader of anything, the story caught the interest of many. It brought on a large movement of individuals to look more deeply into the stock market, as well as the influence and incentive of powerful hedge funds, market makers, banks, news outlets, and the U.S. Government.

r/SubredditDrama had a few posts covering the waves made my r/wallstreetbets in regard to Gamestop, and other "meme stocks" as the term was coined following the event. Suits from accredited financial organizations were forced to discuss a silly forum where users constantly referred to themselves as "retarded" as the harbinger of financial destitution for the "big boys" of the financial world. Needless to say, people swarmed WSB to find answers and discuss what exactly happened with Gamestop. subredditdrama covered another debacle happening in WSB, where mods were accused of conflict of interest for suppressing posts about Gamestop. Users decried the mods as "shills"; insiders paid off by hedge funds and other conflicted interests to discredit and suppress information and ongoing discussion about the past and future of the stock. A multitude of new subreddits were created to find a new place to discuss the stock market, Gamestop, and other stocks.

A few months later, Keith Gill, the legendary DeepFuckingValue, signed off for good with a final update on his investment. This final update is the most awarded post in Reddit's history, and is covered in congratulations honoring him for the legendary investment. Most agree it was in Gill's best interest to commence radio silence, but he is likely still among us, watching, waiting, and (hopefully) shit-posting. It was a historic underdog tale that ushered in a newfound attention to the inner-workings of the U.S. stock market among the larger population, and has gone down as one of the most spectacular events connected to an internet forum.

The topic continues today in various subreddits, and I am sure there are others that could cover the story of DFV better than I. I welcome anyone to post a better overview of the events on this sub, and I will gladly delete my post in deference.

Edit 1: An important event that should have been included: Following the price increase of Gamestop's pre-split share price from roughly $20 to $60 between January 12th and January 25th, Elon Musk tweeted on January 26th "Gamestonk!!" Gamestop had been trending on Twitter in tandem with the sudden rise of share price, but this tweet was attributed to the further sporadic increase in price the following two days. The price propelled from $68 on market-open on 1/25, to the all-time high of $347 on 1/27; a 500% increase within two days, and a 1700% increase within two weeks. There are many other important tweets, from celebrities to financial analysts, sharing their bearish or bullish sentiments on the stock during the sudden price increase that I'm sure others believe are important in the timeline of events. I don't mind adding additional edits for other important timeline events I may have failed to include.

Edit 2: I was tentative to link to the other GME related subs with ongoing accusations of brigading, as well as trying to keep it restricted to the actual event of the squeeze as a 'historical' synopsis and retain objectivity. I admit it is far too relevant to not mention r/Superstonk, r/GME, r/GMEJungle (a few of the subs that were created following the controversy at r/wallstreetbets) when discussing DFV and the Gamestop Saga. A little back story; when I first started having sex I researched into ways to be better as I was a little stiff and pretty much had no idea what I was doing. I read online that you can play music and match the rhythm in order to put on a better performance.

I searched love making songs and started slowly creating a playlist in which I was comfortable matching the rhythm.

There are a few songs to my playlist. However there is one song in particular, which actually happens to be my favourite, that my girlfriend hates and says turns her off in a major way.

I don’t understand why it has taken her two years to tell me she hates that song, it’s a good love making song with good rhythm. I feel the way I fucked up is I could have possibly asked her previously if she likes the playlist or any songs she’d like to add/change. But to leave it for two years thinking our sex life is great but in her eyes has just been ruined by my music has left the whole situation feeling awkward and I’m a bit annoyed.

I pretty much played this tune every single time so the amount of times she must have not been enjoying it, when I thought the complete opposite is annoying but also embarrassing in ways.

Not to mention my previous partners, however they never complained about the song so maybe it’s just her?

It’s fucked up the relationship tbh because sex feels awkward now. The other day we were having sex with no music but I was still thrusting to the tune playing in my head. She recognised this and asked me to stop.

I thought this song was perfect and I always thrust along with the tune and feel it gives me the perfect rhythm for doing the deed to. I usually bust to this song and find it devastating she hates the song.

Title: I'm [30/m] having a hard time coping with my wife [29/f] having cheated on me with our neighbor [51/m]

So to go back to the beginning I had just taken on a new project and new responsibilities at work. I was working a lot of hours (60+ per week) and was noticeably stressed. It was in May of 2015 that I noticed that she had added a password to her phone. When confronted about it she told me it was because she was planning my Father's Day present and didn't want me to ruin the surprise. About a week later she came to me and told me that she felt guilty keeping a big secret from me and told me that she was having our neighbor, a contractor, build a home office for me as my present. It struck me as odd as in our 6 years together she has never said she felt guilty about anything and always insists that she never regrets anything in her life.

Time goes on, her phone is still password protected, and things don't feel right. I see her using her phone and smiling to herself more and more often. But when I ask her what she is doing she says nothing and puts her phone away. So one morning I wait for her to get in the shower and I grab her phone before it requires the password. I go through her messages and find that she is texting the neighbor, "I am all covered in frosting, you wanna lick it off?". There were no other messages to the neighbor but I found out later that was because she had setup her phone to delete messages after a certain amount of time. I felt uncomfortable with it but I knew she had a perverted sense of humor and I thought she would never do anything to hurt me.

More time goes by and the neighbor is spending more and more time at our house but the office is being completed slower and slower. I can't help but worry that something isn't right so I start checking her location using Google Timeline. It was at this point that I realize that there are large gaps in her GPS history because she was turning off her phone's GPS. Fast forward to July and at this point the paranoia is driving me nuts so I tell her that I need to install new anti-virus on her phone. While she has it unlocked for me I install Anti-theft software so I can remotely turn the GPS back on and set up At&t Message Backup and Restore so I can read all of her text messages from that point on my computer.

The next day my mother asks to spend time with my two kids so my wife drops them off with her and has the day to herself. I watch my wife's activity from work as she spends the day trying to meet up with the neighbor but is unsuccessful because he is busy with another job site. That night we get the kids back from my mom's house and we go out to dinner with the neighbor, his girlfriend, and his son. My wife and his girlfriend are having a good time drinking, laughing, and just joking around. His girlfriend mentions that should would like to see Magic Mike XXL, I say it's a good idea I'll watch the kids so my wife and her can go. So my wife and her go and the neighbor and I go back to my house so the kids can play video games together.

The kids are back in my son's room playing games and the neighbor is sitting across from me on the other couch. It is at this point that my wife starts texting him. She is describing sex acts she would like to perform with him and he is reciprocating. She tells him to check his snapchat and at the same time I get a snapchat from her too and it is her fingering herself in a bathroom stall. They keep talking, trying to figure out when they can meet up and have sex. They decide on Monday morning after I go to work. So in my head I had already planned to pretend to leave and circle back to catch them. But then they tell each other that they love each other and it is all I can do to not leap off the couch and knock him out. But I contain myself and continue reading the conversation unfolding in front of me. Then he tells her, "You're my girl now", to which she replies, "Always have been", ending with him writing, "And always will be".

My wife and the neighbor's girlfriend return from the movie and I ask them, politely, to sit down. I then ask the kids to stay in my son's room and shut the door. I return to the living room and confront my wife and the neighbor. I say, "So you two love each other huh?". My wife goes in to full blown denial mode and the neighbor's girlfriend starts smacking him. I ask my wife if she has been texting him, she says no. So I show her the text messages, she admits to it but says it was the first time it had gone that far. I ask my wife if she has sent him pictures, she says no. So I show her the picture, she admits it but says it was the first time. I ask her if she is having sex with him and she says no. Because I didn't wait to catch them having sex together I didn't have evidence to prove her wrong so that one stayed unresolved.

I tell her that I am leaving her, she tells me that she will make sure I never see my kids again if I do. She planned on using the fact that I had attempted suicide in high school to prove me unfit to have the children. She continues to say that it was my fault for being so busy with work and stressed out, that she just wanted someone she could talk to. Then she gives me an ultimatum to decide what I'm going to do or she will decide for me. The neighbor's girlfriend starts defending the two of them saying that it couldn't have been serious if they weren't having sex and that my wife and I are too perfect together to let this break us up. The neighbors go home and my wife and I argue for the rest of the night about what we are going to do. We go to bed separately having not resolved anything. We keep going back and forth on the subject all weekend and finally settle on we were going to separate temporarily while we figure out what we want. I was going to stay in the house and she was going to take the kids and go to her mom's house.

That Monday I go to work and I get text from her in the middle of a meeting with my bosses stating that she had explained things to our kids, but that they were upset and I need to explain it to them also. I get home from work to find my kids crying. She had told them that mommy had to move out because dad was mad at her. When my son wanted to stay with me she told him that he can't. My son put it together that if mommy has to move out because I'm mad at her and he must move out then I must have been mad at him too. My daughter was crying because my son was, I don't think she was old enough to understand what was happening.

It was at that moment I realized she was going to drag the kids through hell if I left her so I swallowed my feelings and begged her to stay. She agreed and insisted that I apologize to our neighbor since we were still going to need to hang out with them because our sons are good friends. I hate it but I do it anyway, we still hang out with them from time to time and they come to our various birthday and holiday parties. But I'd do anything for my kids and I behave civil every time.

Things die down for awhile, I still think about it constantly. I worry how can I keep from making her so unhappy that she cheats on me again. Then almost a year from the original incident, around Father's Day again, she send him pictures again. She claims it was an accident that she meant to send them to me instead. I don't fully believe her but I move on anyway.

Things have been quiet on that front for about 4 months now but I still think about it constantly. This is going to sound stupid but I feel like I have a part of my brain that I can't shut off, that is always thinking. I used to use that to solve programming problems and it made me very good at my job. But ever since this incident, the only thing it thinks about is her and him and if I did the right thing. My job performance has suffered and I feel like I haven't gotten sleep in months. I'm afraid that after this much time, and the fact that I begged her back, that to say that I want a divorce now would only make her more vindictive towards my children and I. I just feel like I have put myself so deep in a hole that I can never get back out. I haven't really talked to anyone about this. I didn't want to talk to my mom about it because I felt she would treat my wife differently and I didn't need the two fighting anymore than they already do. I tried talking to one friend about it but his advice was to put my trust in God but that was not much solace for me as I am an atheist. So I have no clue what to do with my feelings or how to move on from this.

Redditors at this point, understandably so gave the advice to divorce her. He seems to have taken their advice as shown in their next post.

My family poops big. Maybe it's genetic, maybe it's our diet, but everyone births giant logs of crap. If anyone has laid a mega-poop, you know that sometimes it won't flush. It lays across the hole in the bottom of the bowl and the vortex of draining water merely gives it a spin as it mocks you. Growing up, this was a common enough occurrence that our family had a poop knife. It was an old rusty kitchen knife that hung on a nail in the laundry room, only to be used for that purpose. It was normal to walk through the hallway and have someone call out "hey, can you get me the poop knife"? I thought it was standard kit. You have your plunger, your toilet brush, and your poop knife. Fast forward to 22. It's been a day or two between poops and I'm over at my friend's house. My friend was the local dealer and always had 'guests' over, because you can't buy weed without sitting on your ass and sampling it for an hour. I excuse myself and lay a gigantic turd. I look down and see that it's a sideways one, so I crack the door and call out for my friend. He arrives and I ask him for his poop knife. "My what?" Your poop knife, I say. I need to use it. Please. "Wtf is a poop knife?" Obviously he has one, but maybe he calls it by a more delicate name. A fecal cleaver? A Dung divider? A guano glaive? I explain what it is I want and why I want it. He starts giggling. Then laughing. Then lots of people start laughing. It turns out, the music stopped and everyone heard my pleas through the door. It also turns out that none of them had poop knives, it was just my fucked up family with their fucked up bowels. FML. I told this to my wife last night, who was amused and horrified at the same time. It turns out that she did not know what a poop knife was and had been using the old rusty knife hanging in the utility closet as a basic utility knife. Thankfully she didn't cook with it, but used it to open Amazon boxes. She will be getting her own utility knife now.

[Edit: Common question - Why was this not in the bathroom instead of the laundry room? Answer. We only had one poop knife, and the laundry room was central to all three bathrooms. I have no idea why we didn't have three poop knives. All I know is that we didn't. We had the one. Possibly because my father was notoriously cheap about the weirdest things. So yes, we shared our poop knife.]

The weeks leading to the release of Star Wars Battlefront 2 (2017) was filled with controversy. In September 09, a reddit user known as /u/SpontaneousH made a post in /r/iama about his first use of heroin. He snorted some and thought it was great, but was going to avoid doing it again to avoid becoming addicted. Within a fortnight, he was addicted and injecting. Within a month, he'd been admitted to a psychiatric hospital, due to overdosing on fentanyl (basically super heroin), diphenhydramine (antihistamines), pregbalin (epilepsy medication), temazepam (a psychoactive), and oxymorphone (another opioid), and required several doses of Narcan (an anti opioid) to be revived. Two days later, he was off to rehab. During the year that he spent posting these updates, they mostly flew under the radar, and most everyone who actually saw them forgot about them, until 7 years later, he dropped in with another update to say he's been clean for almost 6 years, and that his life is going well.
