But that was not in the years of 1940-1942, "even when Britain fought to keep Germany out of the region" (as you wrote above).
Indeed roughly in 1943 the Irgun decided it was time to fight the Brits again (under the new leadership of Begin). But the Haganah (the much larger of all) did not resume that until after the war in 1945.
