when I was younger, I used to get in these circular discussion/arguments about what be the cause of some assumed near future population crash. I e. nuclear exchange/nuclear winter, rapid climatic shift, etc.

I always was confidently in the "Virus X" as a stand in for some lethal pathogen, because I assumed the evolutionary key was going to outpatce our regularly updated locks.
