What is geoscience?

Geoscience (also called Earth Science) is the study of Earth. Geoscience includes so much more than rocks and volcanoes, it studies the processes that form and shape Earth's surface, the natural resources we use, and how water and ecosystems are interconnected. Geoscience uses tools and techniques from other science fields as well, such as chemistry, physics, biology, and math! Read more...

Much of the toll climate change takes — from rising seas to lost homes — can’t be undone

Wait, you're telling me that cooling the planet won't bring back destroyed homes? I don't believe you.

Also, the article doesn't say anything about "saving us". It just says existing damage can't be undone. e.g. it won't unmelt glaciers that took centuries to form. Duh.

What's the point of the article (based on the title) then? Should we just stop trying?

Therefore, we cannot be confident that temperature decline after overshoot is achievable within the timescales expected today. Only rapid near-term emission reductions are effective in reducing climate risks.
