Hello.

Looking to use a vpn. I’m years behind on this knowledge. Can someone help me with a checklist and I can then do my research past that? I don’t want to bug but just looking for what I need to maintain the freedoms I’ve grown up with.

I’m somewhat familiar (I’ve heard of it) with an “onion” browser then a vpn. Do I also need virus protection? I know McCafee is no good. I’m assuming there will be multiple preferences by individuals so any help is appreciated and I can, hopefully, situate it from there.

Thank y’all.

I'm connecting to the VPN using MacOS's Cisco IPSec VPN client configuration. It connects successfully, receives an IP. But when I'm trying to access any of the internal resources - the browser is just stuck loading. I've tried to run traceroute on the domain, and it correctly resolves the IP address, but then it's stuck on \* \* \*. I'm also able to connect to the VPN through PaloAlto's Global Protect, and the result is the same. It receives an IP, manages to resolve the domain using DNS, but then it's stuck.

What am I missing?

Hi

If you use a vpn and try to sign into an account does Google still track your exact location or the vpn location? I’m talking about the email they send where they say ‘someone tried to log into your account IP Address : xxx Location: Sweden ‘

Thanks

Hello I hope you are ok, I’m in search of a London ip address to use with , slack, zendesk, email and VOIP calls. I look for an option that would accept voice calls and at the same time that won’t flag me as proxy user or VPN user - I’ve given it a try : oxylabs and expresVPN are not viable, any recommendations??? Thanks

This might be a dumb question, but is there any way to set up a system-based kill switch in Windows 11 (like the Always-On VPN setting in Android)?

My VPN app's kill switch can be a bit iffy - sometimes the app crashes, disconnects the VPN and also the kill switch.

I'm trying to set up a VPN on a windows PC for an elderly less tech savvy family member, they wish to permanently browse/stream for entertainment as though they were in their home country.

The windows interface on the paid VPN I'm testing for them requires manually opening and selecting of country on each boot (it will autoconnect on boot, but always defaults to our country of residence only, rather than desired country) It also occasionally prompts for password on boot also. Both of these issues are proving too confusing/frustrating for the user.

Can anyone suggest a method of connection, boot script or similar that will allow me to configure a VPN to connect to desired country automatically upon windows boot, with no interaction required from user?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hello everyone, sorry if this question is super basic. Trying to get my head round how VPN's actually work, and I think I get the basic premise, that the internet site you connect to thinks you're in another location because of a virtual IP.

What I can't understand is how the website is still accessed? So how does a VPN interact with 1. An ISP, and 2. A home router? How does a computer make a request for the website to either of those and resolve the DNS etc. and not have to give up it's real IP, or MAC address?

Question is just theory - scratching a brain itch. So, I'm sorry if my examples are a bit too dim or misunderstood.

TIA!

Hey guys I have a pretty newbie question about VPN.

So I installed my router as a VPN Client which is speaking to the vpn server. All my traffic now gets encrypted at the router which is exactly what I want. My question is: Does the server see my Clients individually or does he only see my router as a Client?

I’ve been on Argentina price for a few years and just got an email about updating my payment method to one from that country. I looked around and found a solution—using a gift card with a new Apple account to buy directly from the YouTube app. I followed all the steps and loaded the new account with a gift card, but whenever I try to make the purchase, I get an error message saying “Your Purchase Could Not Be Completed For assistance, contact iTunes Support at www.apple.com/support/itunes/ww.” Has anyone faced this issue or know how to solve it?

I am looking for a browser extension for FireFox that will redirect certain websites via a VPN and not others. Is there a browser extension that can do this, if so which one?

I’m playing a browser game with my brother. We got only one laptop, he wants to create his own account and play as well. Though the game rules state that we cannot create & use two accounts from one IP/same device. We already accessed the game (my account) through our phones & laptop, therefore we don’t have any other option. Could anyone show me a way, how can we both play the game securely?

Since IKEv2 is built into the OS, and most modern chips have hardware AES, it might be more power efficient than userspace WireGuard(Official Android app using wireguard-go).

Hello, r/VPN.

I was wondering if for just using it for privacy, (Not for streaming stuff you couldn’t stream in another country or similar) Would TOR or VPN be better?

So, from the concept a VPN just changes your public IP address to somewhere else.

TOR however, brings your request through several IP addresses to make finding your actual IP a lot harder (Well, and it is used to enter the dark web and internet layers below, if they actually exist)

So, what of those two options is better for pure privacy?

Is it actually private??

Here's an example scenario. I use my iPhone and the Safari app to search using Google...

  1. Without a VPN, who can potentially see my Internet browsing history?
  2. With a VPN app on my iPhone, who can potentially see my Internet browsing history?

Please be as specific and accurate as possible.

Hi,

I am using a windows laptop for work and all the firms data is stored on local drives. I am able to access them from home using a VPN on my work windows laptop, but I prefer working from home on my Mac. So I installed a virtual machine on my Mac to access the company files, but the following error showed up. Does anyone have a solution or a possible workaround? Thanks

Hi,

The VPN can help you change the location. Is it possible if I connect via Wifi on my mobile and activate VPN and then create hotspot from my mobile and connect other device to my mobile. Will it update my IP address for the new device connected to my mobile hotspot according to the VPN or the base WiFi on which my vpn device(mobile) is connected?

My work requires we install a VPN profile, MS defender and some other functions via InTune. The device is my personal cell phone and I use it on my home wifi or 5G. Since registering, it keeps the VPN on at all times. Does my company have the ability to see my personal usage?

They state they only monitor the apps specifically installed under the profile I had to download (i.e., MS teams). I just wanted to confirm that is accurate and I’m not otherwise failing to abide by company policies. For example, streaming football games from an unsafe website will not set off any alarms?

Thanks !
