Instances of crazy fixes that actually ended up working. Or not working, I'm a description, not the cops.

We've been getting a ton of posts lately that seem to think this is a subreddit for actual tech support, mostly because r/techsupport has a no-images policy. Obviously, they shouldn't be posting here either, but the mods can only do so much. I know they do clean up what they can when they see it.

Right now, it doesn't look like this subreddit has any posted community rules. Maybe we need some?

How do you feel we should deal with people asking for tech support here? Some people are actually trying to help them, which while its nice, I think sends the wrong message. Should we just report to the mods and not help them? Personally, I prefer to just post sarcastic macguyveresque "solutions", and think it'd be awesome to see people asking for help just get answers about duct-taping pringles cans to their cell phones.

How do you think we should handle the lost souls?

Surely there are enough bright minds and enough resources in this vast country that could come together to build an intelligently designed (in all ways, ie. affordability, walkable spaces, transit, etc etc) place for people to live.

What does it take, legally speaking? What is the process of creating a settlement that grows all the way into a town or city? Why are we waiting for legislation and policy to catch up to our needs — why can’t we just build the solutions ourselves???

I just moved into a new apartment building and they have aerwave. My understanding is that each unit has its own username and password to the wifi. The weird thing is that the aerwave tech texted me the username and password. I assumed that I would be able to reset the password but he told me there’s not a way to do that. My next question was “sooo every admin at aerwave has the password to my local wifi?”. He said yes.

Question #1 - Is this a legit security and privacy concern ? The whole thing felt weird to me. I know very little about network security but this made me wonder whether some random guy with my wifi password could just show up in the parking lot outside of my apartment and start connecting to my devices.

My level of discomfort led to me just buy a router to add an extra layer of security, which I have plugged right into the Ethernet port in the wall. I set my own password for it and figured this would give an extra layer of security for all of my devices connected to the wifi.

Question #2 - was this the right move? Is this actually more secure now? I have no idea what is “upstream” from the Ethernet port and if anyone could still just be monitoring all of my traffic.

TLDR - I live in an apartment and learned that Aerwave employees can see my wifi password and I don’t want that. There’s no way to change that password, so I want to add an extra layer of security to my network and create my own password to my local wifi.

So I just installed my new 3070ti along with a corsair RM750e and now after it starts up, it brings me to the login screen, where I can login and then it goes to a black screen. However I can still bring up task manager, so I don't know if I did anything wrong or what the issue is? Any help is appreciated.
