I have this weird thing going on that I only play certain games on my Deck and the other ones at my Pc (usually big AAA games and stuff like that)

It happens very rarely that I play the same game on both devices.

Anyone else here doing the same? Ofc this question goes exclusively to people who own Deck AND a Pc.

I'm honestly thinking of selling mine since it gets barely any play time other than mario kart and super smash bros with my brothers. I almost never use it alone. And don't even get me started on the price of the games on it...

I have seen quite a few posts about using sunshine/moonshine for streaming, but one of the problems I have with that method of streaming is using the steam controller config for games without gamepad support (if someone has had success, please let me know). I have used the Steam Controller many years and I have made configurations for games without gamepad support (i.e. Guild Wars 2). I like to use Steam Remote Play (the "Stream" button in game mode") so I can use my configurations. However, I found out real quick that there are issues with artifacts (especially at the edges), lag, and stutter when using remote play in game mode.

After some investigation, I noticed that in game mode, the Steam Deck uses a hardware decoding method called "vaapi tiled hardware decoding", but in desktop mode and the steam link flatpack, the deck uses "vaapi drm hardware decoding" (). The streaming using the drm method is so much better than the tiled method, but I am not able to easily use my controller configurations again.

After turning hardware decoding on the steam deck in game mode (ensure HEVC is off too), I was able to produce a smooth streaming experience similar (if not better) to moonshine. I am also able to use my custom controller configurations without any issues. The battery life suffers slightly, but not as much as I was expecting (maybe 30 minutes less).

I reached act 3 and oh boy its a choppy slideshow. Frametimes are all over the place, and if you turn your camera, or move your character the slightest bit, the fps dips well below 20 and its not just here and there, its constant stuttering and slowdowns indoors, outdoors, everywhere for an entire act that is supposedly much longer then the first 2. Hell i played the game on a 24 fps lock so far, so its not like my standards are high or anything, but the deck cant even manage a steady 24 in act 3, and its not even close (fps goes as low as 9!! at certain spots, but most of the time its jumps around between 14 and 22).

I was kind of expecting this because ive heard how rough act 3 is on demanding pc-s, and the deck was already struggling really hard in more demanding areas in the previous acts, like the monastery or last light inn.

I run the game on an ssd, with everything at low except textures which is on medium, with fsr and taa, cryoutilities, uma 4gb, but sadly no setting or tweaking helps.

And inb4 some coper asks no, my deck is not defective, and i do not have the 400mhz bug. If you are nearing act 3 and have a pc, just do yourself a favor and finish it there.

I dont even know how is this game verified atm, the performance towards the end of the game is certainly much worse than for example the last of us, which had its verified status revoked because of how horrible the performance was at launch.

I don't now what happend and I scared that my Deck my be broken can anyone help me?

Hi, I played about 2 hours already, when suddenly the other day the in-game language switched to French and now when I am starting a new game, the menu music just keeps on playing, so no Sound FX whatsoever when playing. Tried to change game language, tried re-install, still same issue. Any idea?

I have both os on my steam deck but I only use windows mainly for software that I can't run or couldn't figure out how to run. I still use steamos to play all my games. I was also wondering am I missing anything besides anti cheat working on windows?

I don't know if I'm unlucky or something but I've been getting the worst units imaginable, my first deck would never update SteamOS, the 2nd ones charging port died from overheating and had horrible backlight bleed which I put up with and now my 3rd unit has a defective touchpad, analog stick is grinding on the case and it overheats until it turns off in five minutes of playing

Anyone else had a bad experience with the Steam Deck? I can't be alone, it's getting to the point I want my money back because I'm sick of returning it and having it out of my hands as much as I actually can use it for

Streaming from PC to the steamdeck is fantastic when using a PC with nvidia shield to stream to the deck with moonlight.

I do NOT generally like shooters. I'm not very good with a mouse due to essential tremors, and I'm a hunt-and-peck typist. PC gaming was never for me unless I used a controller or emulating retro games (like SNES or GameBoy). I also just don't really care for guns in video games and prefer melee. But for whatever reason, I really like Borderlands, and I like using sniper rifles because it really itches that Skyrim Stealth Archer itch for me.

Guys, I can't believe how much better I am at aiming with a "mouse" using the trackpad vs. using a control stick. This has made the game so much easier for me and has made headshots incredibly fun and so much easier to calibrate. I can just nail like ten headshots in a row opposed to constantly missing due to my tremors and trying to find the perfect level of sensitivity for my stick. And, if I want to use the control stick, I just move my thumb a tiny bit, and boom, different level of sensitivity.

I love this little guy and how it's breathed new life, and interest, in a genre I used to ignore because I just didn't think I would ever be skilled/coordinated enough to play.

I was wondering if I could map either of the 15s, 30s, 1m, and 2m buttons to a button on the SD. Other plugins may benefit of this, too. Couldn’t find a way so far.

What are some backpacks that can fit the steam deck case I’ve been thinking of getting a new one for school and I would like some recommendations. Ideally something with multiple pockets while also not having too thin of pockets

I'm looking for something similar to how Minecraft does it but a general plugin for any game. Something to help a young gamer who's still learning to read without needing to have someone sitting there reading the game.

Does the MetaDeck plugin work for anyone? It keeps crashing when it's reading all my games. It gets stuck in an endless loop reading the meta data of a game. I've updated it, reinstalled it, but nothing seems to get it complete the initial meta data retrieval. Has anyone else had any luck with it?

I am playing Xenoblade Chronicles X through CEMU on Steam Deck, and I want to make the right stick click-in swap between the handheld Wii-U controller screen, and another click to swap back to the main screen.

I also would like to make the stick create a mouse cursor where I can replicate the touch pad ability on the Wii-U game pad, but instead of actually me touching the screen, I can use the right joystick to use a mouse to touch where I want.

Ideally, the process would be this:

  • Game plays like normal, but when I want to switch to the game pad screen, I click in the right joystick
  • This swaps the screens and also activates a movable cursor on screen
  • Clicking in the right stick also swaps back to the main screen, and deactivates the cursor so I can go back to playing the game like normal

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated - thank you!

I managed to replace the 64gb ssd with a 1tb one. However after downloading the steam os from my mac and putting it on usb stick it wont boot up post BIOS.

When I get to the select hard drive menu and press EFI it’s just takes me to a blank screen. Every once in a while it will show the steam logo then flash to “returning to firmware” or something like that. I’m really worried cause it’s either my steam deck got damaged cause I messed it up or if it’s my usb is just old. This is my first time doing something like this so I’m worried. Sorry if I sound unknowledgeable or messed up terms it’s cause I am haha

In the few non steam games I’ve downloaded, some of them require different files to be added (music files, for example). This shouldn’t be a problem, whenever I press “Add file”, it would take me to a file browser that contains nothing I’ve downloaded, and seems to be internal Deck files.

Yes, this is in desktop mode. Is there anyway to fix this and have it actually contain the files i’ve downloaded?
