Here is a graph of AI performance on benchmarks over time:

And here is a graph of those rolled up into capabilities:

There is no sign that progress is stopping (except for those benchmarks that have already neared the maximum possible). In fact, for the past 5 years we generally find that AI performance exceeds all expectations and predictions.

This chart was an attempt that was made in 2020 to predict future AI performance on certain benchmarks:

And here is where performance actually was midway through 2023 (X marks actual performance):

img

People will point to the failures of models and say "See this mistake?" or "They still aren't good at reasoning." That's to be expected; if you look at the reasoning based metrics on that top chart, like MMLU, they still haven't quite reached human performance. But they are getting there, very, very fast.

If you still aren't convinced, I suggest you come up with your own bar. Pick a benchmark that you like, or a quantifiable metric that measures what you care about it. But then set your goalposts and don't move them, and see when AI has met your criteria.

EDIT:

As pointed out by u/agcuevas, a performance of 84.3 is now reported on MATH as of Aug 15th.

In a world where machines have taken all or most jobs due to the development of AGI or ASI, it's natural to consider a way to sustain workers who have been replaced, and one such way is through a UBI. This way, their basic needs like food or housing would be covered, allowing them to engage in non-work activities such as leisure.

But what about transhumanism? If humans could digitize their minds and even detach from their biological bodies to replace them with artificial ones, there wouldn't even be a need to worry about things like eating, sleeping, etc.

It's true that certain things like savoring a meal or engaging in sex might no longer be possible, but consider other possibilities, such as, for example, venturing into space without the need to worry about oxygen or a space suit to shield you from radiation. Not to mention aging – that would be a thing of the past.

Imagine having a superintelligent, superknowledgeable doctor at your disposal 24/7. This AI will be much more proficient at diagnosis and treatment than our human doctors. And we interact with it exactly how we interact with our human doctors. But there is no time limit on our conversation.

Already the average person has online access to the entire corpus of medical literature. Tomorrow we will ask medical AIs anything about medicine, and they will give us a far more intelligent, accurate and complete answers than what we could ever expect from human doctors.

And these AIs can also help keep us healthy. They can offer personalized advice about weight, diet, supplements and exercise and pretty much anything else that we want to know to stay as as healthy as possible.

An amazing thing about this is that it will all be virtually free. Think about how much we now pay for 15 minutes of a doctor's time. Now imagine being able to talk with your doctor at virtually no cost for as long as you want, whenever you want.

Then there is what these medical AIs can teach inspiring medical students. Whether it's a 7th grade prodigy or a med student or intern wanting to upgrade their knowledge, these medical AIs will be like personal professors who are authorities in their specialty.

Now imagine how our quality of life is too often impacted by less than ideal relationships and by unpleasant thoughts and emotions. Available for sessions anytime of the day or night will be psychiatric AIs that will revolutionize and make far more pleasant and productive the art of psychotherapy.

Imagine the most intelligent, informed, understanding, compassionate, friendly and supportive person being there for us for everything, helping us get closer and better enjoy the real people in our lives.

Yeah, AI is about to revolutionize medicine in a very big way. And it will start with Google's Med-PaL M 2.

What do you think are the big changes coming to politics from AI & singularity?

Trusting AI as a political authority: I was reading how there are studies on ChatGPT saying it has a "liberal bias". Steven Colbert once said "Reality has a well-known liberal bias". These AI systems are loaded with papers, research and scientific data measured in reality so are they just reflecting reality?

How will this impact the conservative party who leverages emotions over measurements? As these AI systems grow, will more conservative research be conducted measuring policy results to try to make less biased? Or will LLMs be created with conservative only data and socialized with party members as the only non-liberal AI.

Transparency: I believe the singularity will bring more transparency from politicians as real time fact checking will happen. For instance i can envision live-fact checking in TV news shows where the audio from the politician would be piped into AI and highlights overlaid on screen. We would be able to see live overlaid data such as which corporations are funding their races. Take a Mike Turner from Ohio would be overlaid with Locheed Martin, Raytheon, Boeing, etc with how many $'s. Transparency will increase until we reach neural tech for communications.

Military: Will we become more peaceful? In he public sector, companies like OpenAI are asking for government regulation to help protect humanity from AI going off the rails. What about AI in the military and who is regulating that? AI assisted assassination has already started.

Social services: I can only think social services will increase over time as we lift and shift work to AI robots. Probably basic secured income. How do you see this changing?

The purpose of sleep and dreaming is believed to be related to memory you learn stuff during the day and create/revisit most memories at night. We have the technology to make AI dream now that we have generative AI models and this can be used to compress the entire dataset of everthing ever learned into a model of information that can be used to update the network to prevent the AI from forgetting stuff it has learned during the sleep period. An advanced AI could collect information during the day then have the the network updated at night.

Can I see a world where most human labor is no longer needed, ubi, and extended lifespans are the norm? Absolutely, and I think those that don't can't see the writing on the wall. In regards to timespan, that's a mute point. Even if we have a terrible war that sets us back many years we'll eventually get to this point one way or another.

However the largest question I never see addressed is property rights. How is it fair in a world like this(no possibility of upward mobility due to labor automation) some people get to live in mansions on large plots of land, or right next to the beach, and others get to live in small apartments on top and beside other people?

I am wanting to hear people's potential solutions to this problem. I think some sort of time limit and a lottery system might have to come into place. I also can see people rejecting this to the point of violence. Again wondering what are some other ideas as I don't think this topic is addressed enough.

So basically AI is just computers, computers are just math and engineering. So how can the geniuses hold so disparate views a "stochastic parrot" versus "understanding stuff + internal world model" ? Or maybe this is just the general behaviour amongst scientists even in fields such as Mathematics? I'm just having a hard time understanding how you can create something without understanding what you have created.

If we think about it, current machine learning paradigms can have a lot to learn from the neuroscience of our brains. Don’t get me wrong, the original neural networks are loosely inspired by the neural networks of the brain, though even today the neural networks we have are based on principles that are quite simple compared to the neuroscience that we currently have.

To get what I mean, let’s first try to imagine the following:

A neuron is essentially a mathematical function, but simply functions do not represent complex phenomenon well. The trick with most modern neural networks is just to create large networks of these neurons, where the inputs of many neurons are the outputs of previous layers of neurons. The idea behind this is to essentially craft together a much more complex function using these neurons and to use an algorithm called backpropagation to step by step find the set of weights that will provide the correct answer. Of course, this is oversimplified, but it at least gets the general idea well.

Now if we think about it, this is quite a simple (relatively speaking) algorithm for learning compared to what nature might have to offer. For example, look no further than the biological neuron itself. The biological neuron neural network has the following properties:

  • Synapses: The axons of one neuron release neurotransmitters (chemicals like dopamine and acetylcholine) onto the receptors of another neuron’s dendrites in order to propagate a neural signal.
  • Integrate and fire: Neurons receiving signals from other neurons tend to “build up charge” for lack of a better phrase, but this charge continuously leaks. You can think of it like a leaking pool being periodically filled by buckets of water. If the pool overflows, the neuron fires. But this isn’t a universal rule, as neurons could also have different functions and thereby, different thresholds for when they fire. For digital neurons, we currently have the Spiking Neural Network.
  • Cortical Column: Neurons are arranged into layers where each neuron might have their outputs connected to the inputs of the next layer’s neurons, but this isn’t a hard rule and usually the outputs of the neurons could also connect to the inputs of neurons really far away. Cortical columns could also be bundled together and continuously expanded upon. Of course, current artificial neural networks also have layers, though it doesn’t capture the full complexity of these cortical columns.
  • Glia: These structures largely aid in supporting the neurons of the brain, but could also influence the neurons of the brain in ways we don’t fully understand. For example, these glial cells might help influence how certain neurons might fire given an environment. The closest things I could think of as an equivalent for artificial neural networks is reinforcement learning.
  • There are a multitude of different neurons in the brain, each with their unique functions: Unipolar, Bipolar, Multipolar, Basket Cells, Betz cells, Lugano cells, Pyramidal Cells, the whole shabang. There are a whole host of things we could vary between artificial neurons in order to get similar results from our artificial neurons, like the activation function, the hyperparameters, the addition of convolutional or attention layers, and many more.
  • Neuroplasticity: Each individual neuron could individually alter their connections through really complicated chemical signaling. They could individually strengthen, weaken, prune, grow new connections, or even migrate between different regions. Closest thing I could think of is the NEAT algorithm and the liquid neural networks.
  • To top it all off, our brain is subdivided into various regions that subdivides individual tasks and then integrates them later on. The closest thing we have for artificial neural networks is the mixture of experts architecture.

This doesn’t even scratch the surface when it comes to the treasure trove of neuroscience research currently out there. This is all to say that the modern neural networks aren’t very sophisticated and complex compared to the brain. The biggest takeaways we should get from this is:

  1. Perhaps introducing additional complexities might allow artificial neural networks to have a greater degree of freedom in how they can learn the datasets being fed to them.
  2. There’s some isolated work being done on various segments of neuroscience inspired neural architectures, though they are scattered and haven’t been integrated into one product before. More work needs to be done on improving these initial discoveries and in implementing these integrated models in real world applications.

Alright, that’s all I have to say. Thank you for reading this far.

Q&A

Q: When will [insert game name here] be cracked?

A: STOP! r/CrackWatch members are not psychic. Games get cracked by completely ANONYMOUS SCENE GROUPS who don't disclose their progress or plans to the general public so NO ONE knows WHEN and IF a certain game will be cracked.

Q: What are all these NFO thingies? Where do I download?

A: NFOs are text files included with game releases which contain information about the releases. r/CrackWatch only informs which games have been cracked. To download look for the releases on CS.RIN.RU's forum or torrent websites. Useful websites can be found in The Beginners Guide or r/PiratedGames's Mega Thread.

Q: WTF is Denuvo?

A: Denuvo is a Digital Rights Management (DRM) technology used to protect games from being cracked. Games that have Denuvo are harder to crack and usually take much longer. See Pinned Post for a list of Denuvo games.

Q: An update is out, but it includes the base game as well! Can I only download the update without redownloading the entire game?

A: Yes. CS.RIN.RU is your friend.

The fear surrounding AI is often rooted in misconceptions about job loss, identity, and purpose. Many perceive AI as a threat, believing it will leave them without meaning or financial stability. This viewpoint, stemming from a mindset of scarcity, overlooks the transformative potential of AI when paired with Universal Basic Income (UBI). Together, these two factors can help humanity embrace a future of growth, equality, and innovation, thereby accelerating our path to the singularity.

The financial gap in our society leads many to work out of necessity, not choice. This scarcity drives negative impulsive decisions like theft, racism, sexism, and even violence. The notion that AI will replace human labor fuels resistance and hampers technological progress. UBI offers financial security, reducing stress and impulsive behaviors borne from desperation. By providing a safety net, UBI allows people to pursue passions and meaningful endeavors, expanding opportunities for personal growth and societal contribution.

Rather than a competitor, AI can be seen as an extension of human ability, automating mundane tasks and freeing up time for creativity, empathy, and higher-level thinking. Widespread acceptance and investment in AI can speed up technological advancements, bringing us closer to the singularity. UBI and AI together can foster a mindset of love, capacity, and community, allowing us to see beyond mere survival. Encouraging a vision where people find fulfillment and purpose beyond traditional employment can transform how we view work, leisure, and personal development.

The road to the singularity need not be fraught with fear and resistance. By adopting UBI and embracing AI, we can replace the mindset of scarcity with one of abundance and empathy. It's time to envision a future where technology is not our adversary but our ally, and where every individual has the freedom to choose their path and purpose. Together, we can build a world that not only cares for its inhabitants but empowers them to reach unprecedented heights.

and, yes, this post is AI-assisted

suppose that ASI can write a twitter in 1s with almost 0 cost, augmented super human is hired with 100000 dollars/month (this is the salary in the future)and can write a twitter in 0.1 seconds, the cost is still far more higher than ai and human will still lose their jobs

They decided to hook up an electromyography (EMG) system with Generative AI. Specifically, an LLM which was personalized to the user…

…the system measured how the wearer of an EMG device would react when thinking of a word. This would help to build up a set of signals which correlated to real words. Feeding those signals into an LLM would mean the creation of a ‘personalized LLM’.

A few people here appreciate and discuss about new technologies , ai models , whatever you call it.

And rest of the sub wait with their dick in their hands , so they can jerk off to the next

“This generative ai will make this fields %90 percent obsolote”

post. And I bet they reach climax as they write:

“Haha no , AI will replace all of them , and every single one of us.”

lol.

Congratulations , you get it! Rest of the humanity is sleeping on the fact that ai will replace everyone in [insert some date less then a decade] years , but you’re ready for the wave to take you away. Everyone else is in denial except you , fuck them for wanting to keep doing their passion , or wanting to feed their families! Forget about the fact that having hope for a better future is a fundamental human trait , fuck it , CEO’s and governments will definitely make the UBI work , so we can play guitar and sing around the bonfire until the end of our days!

It’s crazy lol. Yes , we all know AI will change every aspect of the society forever , but you guys hate your jobs that much? Or do you really think that everything will be for our good in the automated tomorrow you believe in?

I swear I can’t see any discussion about the post in the comments section before going through all the “fuck yeah we won’t have to work” bullshit. Yes , I will accept the automation gods when the day comes and hand my job over to them and join the party with you guys , I promise.
